The article provides a theoretical framework for the study of these concepts and an attempt at empirical measurement. The concepts of food safety and food security are framed within the theoretical debate on the global risk society, focusing on the interconnections between insecurity/safety and risks, sustainability, consumption, and participation. The first results of a survey carried out by the Department of Economics, Society, Politics (DESP) of the University of Urbino Carlo Bo, in the context of the project Sustainability and food [in]security, are then illustrated. This research makes it possible to outline the degree and dimensions of food safety and food security in the Italian adult population, study its connection with attitudes towards sustainability, and identify the factors that influence food choice. The analysis also considers the interplay between consumption and social and political commitment, in their diachronic evolution.
1341, 2° comma, c.c. ; The arbitration proceedings before the Sports Guarantee Board, concerning disputes arising from the mandate contracts between sports agents and clients, recently started as a result of the recent issue of the CONI Regulation, pursuant to art. 22, par. 2, of the Sporting Agents Regulations, brought again to the attention of the interpreters the question of agents being subject to federal legislation and, in particular, to the constraint of sports justice. The issue is addressed in this paper under the specific perspective relating to the possibility or not of considering the arbitration clause, included in the mandate contracts between sports agents and clients, as abusive pursuant to the legislation on consumerism in the Consumer Code, or to the regulation on abusive clauses in art. 1341, par. 2, of the Civil Code.
; This thesis carries out a preliminary analysis about market placement of products of social farming (SF) and identifies some eventual valorisation strategies. Due to the peculiar nature of these goods, the market of ethical products, as well as the characteristics of ethical consumers, have been investigated. As it regards the organization of the ethical market, its main restraining factor, that is the actual gap between purchasing attitude and behaviour, has been evaluated. Furthermore, the possible solutions to pass this gap have been individuated. The analysis includes a survey among some specific consumer targets: university students and buying groups. This investigation aims to discover consumer awareness and attitude for products of green care farms (GCF), the motivations underneath these purchasing attitudes and behaviours, the eventual diffusion and organization of SF products market, the actual limits and the possible future allocation on the market.
Starting from the anticipatory notes of Luigi M. Lombardi Satriani's Folklore e profitto [1973], the paper seeks to critically articulate the interesting relation between cultural heritage, capitalistic market and mass media, updating the analysis, also, to the most recent forms of the use of media in promoting and valorizing such traditions. What emerges is a twist of cultural heritage toward consumerism that imposes to anthropologists and cultural heritage scholars new challenges and questions and a late-modern rethinking of critical categories as commodification, alienation and fetishization. A central question, finally, arises about who and what should be today the social actors asked to decide about these processes of cultural manipulation in the new post-industrial and globalized scenario, characterized, inter alia, from a generalized economic crisis.
; Analysing different forms of human language and its powers, the issue of language-dialect connections, strictly intertwined with politics and society, represent one of the author's main concerns and, at the same time, a constant feature of Pasolini's work. Pasolini never compromised on what he believed to be his «primary» duty as an intellectual: «To perform, first and foremost, a critical examination of the facts». Since youth, he conceived of this examination as a continuous assessment, continuous focussing of his periscope to the horizon of phenomena, opposing ideologues of every kind who always did the opposite. He was therefore amongst the first to glimpse the dawn of a new historical era that -in addition to eliminating the traits of an ancient agricultural civilization, which still defined most of Italy in the early '60s- would eventually «anthropologically» transform Italians. This article aims to demonstrate the above by reviewing all of the author's works, not only his linguistic ones, and to focus on some pieces that are lesser-known, rarely studied or neglected by critics.
The expression "community energy" refers to initiatives where communities show a high level of ownership or control and enjoy significant collective benefits related to the generation, management, conservation, acquisition and consumption of energy; benefits that often include a strengthening of social cohesion and local economy and that extend to the whole society thanks to the reduction of consumption and the development of renewables. Studies on community energy have expanded quickly. The essay addresses, through an exploratory inquiry, the level of maturity reached by the literature. Indicators of maturity of a research field can be considered a robust and shared theoretical and methodological basis and an incremental knowledge inscribed in a coherent empirical framework. To search for an answer the study has selected about forty articles in English published between 2007 and 2017, taking the Web of Science as a database. Results show a rather "compact" literature – cross-references abound, and a small number of journals host the bulk of the works – which has developed to a significant extent autonomously from neighbouring research topics. Community energy appears a dynamic and complex field, yet seldom considered capable of engendering profound changes in the existing arrangements. Positive evaluations prevail over critical ones, often building on the classic trope of community "warm" relations as opposed to society's "cold" ones. The theoretical framework does not seem yet well-established and the prevailing methodological approaches are those typical of exploratory investigations. In the time span analysed, therefore, more than an actual theoretical and analytical development one finds a constant enrichment of empirical evidences.
Bogdan Suchodolski was a great Polish humanist and pedagogist of the second halfof the twentieth century. He was not only active in the national context, but also onan international level, since he had frequent cultural exchanges with scholars fromother countries and especially since he was a member of international bodies suchas Unesco. He asserted, both in his vast scientific production and in his teaching, the need for a formation of the people marked by the most authentic values, nowbetrayed and menaced by a society that is often subject to consumerism and fundamentalism. This interview (carried out in January 2014) with Irena Wojnar, one ofhis most staunch disciples and close collaborator, helps us shed some light on afew aspects of the teaching and production of the master, twenty years after hisdeath. The questions focus on three areas: the international role of B. Suchodolski, the weight of his thought in the political and social context of his country, thelifelong learning. Educational design can be widened by investigation of the writingsof the author discussed in the article. Before the beginning of the interview,an introduction gives some information on the figure of the Polish pedagogist.
The human being develops thanks to her relationship with their conspecifics. Thanks to this relation, she obtains a given cultural heritage andacquires her own identity, thus differentiating herself and finding her own space of freedom and autonomy that enables her to interact and extend her own network of relations. This process of reciprocity allows the human being to realize herself as conscious member of a "social body," namely a radical society within an organic human context—a context that has nowadays become global, as a consequence of new migratory fluxes and of newly increasing economic inter-dependence.Education is a thread in human civilization and makes it possible to transform the spaces where anonymity, fear, consumerism, prejudice, haste, indifference, subjugation, insecurity and solitudes take place. As a consequence of transformation, these spaces become characterized by acceptance, trust, sharing, safety, friendship, kinship. The models of political education that used to prevail are the following ones: the academic model—in which a huge amount of notions are debated and explained—and the laboratory model—which bends towards operational politics, by making use of workshops and simulations. It is now widespread the social need to provide everybody—and young people in particular—with foundational socio-political information and with evaluative tools that are historically well-established. These latter instruments should allow for a comparison of different socio-political traditions and frameworks, thus stimulating a renewed commitment that is consciousof the increasing difficulties faced when implementing policies. It isnecessary to found again a political culture and provide it with a new direction— for example, by matching ideals and administrative experience and by supporting it through a dynamic reflection that is open and capable of understanding the current events.
; The consumer society coommodify every vital area. Capitalism has stripped its productive praxis from its traditional heavier elements in order to assume a symbolic and cultural dimension. Consumption as a sign express immaterial dimension of our materials lives, colonize experience and life itself. Nowadays, the nomadism is the most typical dimension of consumption, as well as the everlasting mobility of life is the size of the global era. Consumption mostly becomes life experience: a never-ending changing experience that allows us to live many lives, one different from the other. The only stable aspect is just the consumerist paradigm that invests our own identities, as well as the identities of places and, by the end, the identity of the world. However, new forms of political consumerism, either ethical or responsible, raising from the growing global risks society, contribute to change behavior in a "reflexive" and "glocal" way investing the experience area and consumption scope. Tourism, representing both experiential paradigm and the global mobility one, may be considered as a privileged observatory to investigate these reflexive forms of consumption, which assign a whole new meaning to experience and consumption. This dissertation aims to explore, throughout a case study, the way the emerging forms of responsible tourism may become a basic key to access to new forms of sustainable development of local areas in earlier modernization contexts.
; The subjects of the research concern the relationship between the growth of the web and the modification of the molding of personal and social identity, the perception of space and time, the digital prosumerism and the various patterns of participation and association. The project delves into the relationship between the Web 2.0 and the transformation of communication at various levels, both personal and social. The project focuses on the steps of the identity growth process, through the social network society, analyzing the social and economical contests that brought modern society to evolve into information society. Social networks have been studied as instruments for both socialization and consumerism, and as contest where to grow a new trend of popular participation. In order to clarify the subject and circumscribe the hypothesis of the research, the project structures a comparison between the use of the web in USA and Italy, with the purpose of understanding the current role of the web user in mass communication. In the research it was important to study the citizen journalism phenomenon in order to verify the hypotheses, through the methodology of digital ethnography, focusing on YouReporter website. Various programs of statistical elaboration supported the study of the "web galaxy", analyzing the contest and destructuring the Web 2.0 reality.
; Starting from the idea of nostalgia as a collective emotion in contemporary culture, this dissertation maps out the notion of the "space of nostalgia". In some spaces, temporality is the protagonist: the past, and the emotions and the values related to it, are recreated spatially. This experience is closely linked to the position of the subject, which makes these scenarios possible through practical and concrete situations. The goal of this thesis is to trace the epistemological and semiotic boundaries of the concept of "space of nostalgia", as the landscape that enables a world that no longer exists to be realized, through a series of practices. The research described here adopts an interdisciplinary approach between Memory Studies and Semiotics of Culture. I question how nostalgia is an "on-going passion", and how it produces narratives and new memorial ecosystems. Within this context, Svetlana Boym's The Future of Nostalgia (2001) is fundamental. In this work she proposes to the distinction between "restorative" and "reflexive" nostalgia. Together with these two forms there is a third typology of nostalgia, connected to consumerism, which turns the past into an object of consumption. This trend pervades the field of fashion and tourism in the shape of an "imagined nostalgia", experienced by the consumer who seeks souvenir of a non-lived past. These theoretical premises precede an analysis of the semiotic and cultural/spatial dimensions of the fascist nostalgia in Italy and GDR nostalgia in Germany, via two case studies: (i) Predappio, a small town near Forlì (Italy), that is the birthplace of the former fascist dictator of Italy, Benito Mussolini; and (ii) the DDR Museum of Berlin, an interactive museum opened in 2006 which offers an edulcorated version of the traumatic past under the German Democratic Republic.
; The thesis has been consolidated in the analysis of the impact of social networks in the construction of public space, in the sphere of observation represented from networking and web2.0. Noting that the paradigm of civil society has changed. Redefining images and imaginary and forms of self-representation on the new media (Castells, 2010). On the assumption that public space "is never a preconceived reality" (Innerarity, 2008) but moves within networks that generate and provide sociability At the aim to understand what is public space (between online and offline) Civic engagement that gets increased in symbolic spaces (Sassen, 2008), significant meeting nodes. Thus citizens-consumers co-responsibly advance their issues for the debacle in governments. Participatory culture that gets moved by a new civic engagement mediated expressed in the "virtues" of critical consumption. Bringing the policy on the market. Self actualized civic culture searching solutions to the crisis of recent years. Power of a communication that reduces the world to a "global village", linking "connected publics" in different spaces and times, giving rise to collective actions as the Indignados movement, Occupy Wall Street or, in Italy, "Rai per una notte". Emerge a (re)thinking citizenship according to two paradigms (Bennett, 2008): one oriented to the government through parties, "dutiful Citizenship" model; the other, "Self Actualizing Citizenship" model, for which the active publics followed news and events, perceive a lower requirement in the government, the vote is less significant because of (not)trust in the media and politicians. Market and civil society moved togheter for the common good and a new "happiness". Participation gets constituted as political consumerism into networks in which individual actions are developed through social networking and responsible consumer choices. Starting with digital ethnography, we define the model "C 4" Knowledge> Co-support> Co-participation> Co-resposability (collective action)> Culture-ability.
; In this thesis, attention is drawn to the extraordinary style and inspirational ideas of the writer of an extremely rich ouevre, Alberto Moravia. The aim was, by analyzing the lesser-known collection of short stories, Racconti surrealisti e satirici, to point out to his open and implicit views on social criticism and politics, which are in line with a surrealistic-style direction he expressed in the post-war, avant-garde period. The relevant biographical presentation and dissolution of the key concepts such as: short story and novel, satire and myth, dream and real social injustice, were followed by an analysis of twelve selected titles from the collection. In doing so, each story was briefly recounted and elaborated by linking it to the aforementioned concepts, that is, within a surreal-oniric and socially-critical approach as well as a writer's biography. Then, in the stories, some paradoxes have been crystallized, that are applicable to contemporary society, the most notable of which is the ruthless but seductive capitalism, alluding to a govern of dictatorship. In conclusion, Moravia was found to be sensitive to inequality and alienation that are being brought by the blind consumerism, but he also, using a metaphysical expression, largely remained on the neutrality of political views. That is to say, Moravia does not offer direct solutions to prevent social problems, but he does open a space for their illumination and debate.
