By an Act dated 20 February 1974, Australia notified the Swiss Government, depositary of the Geneva Conventions of 1949, of the withdrawal of the reservation formulated by the Australian Government at the time of its ratification, on 14 October 1958, of the Convention relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War.

The number of States parties to the Geneva Conventions is now 132. In a letter received by the Swiss Federal Council on 4 April 1972, the Minister for Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of Bangladesh declared that that State considered itself bound by the four Geneva Conventions of 12 August 1949 for the Protection of War Victims, by virtue of their previous ratification by Pakistan.

In a letter dated 24 April 1972, which reached the Swiss Government on 10 May 1972, the Minister for Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates informed the Swiss Federal Council of that State's accession to the four 1949 Geneva Conventions.
