Because of cultural diversity problems & a lack of political & social integration, the Belgian Parliament in 1973 passed a law protecting ideological & philosophical tendencies corresponding to the divisions of society. The text of the law is a legal translation of an agreement between most of the Belgian political parties. The laborious elaboration of the text is a consequence of autonomous cultural communities, & organizes, in the cultural sphere, a protection of ideological tendencies in connection with political groups, according to the traditional approach of the pluralism of the Belgian state. The agreement has 2 objectives: to prevent & to remedy discrimination. To accomplish this, the law institutes an organ of control--a national permanent Commission, with consultative competence. The efficiency of its provisions chiefly depends on collaboration & reciprocal confidence between the cultural partners. Modified HA.
