Les valeurs Danoises, fondement de la Folkeskole (Danish values, the foundation of the Folkeskole) ; Les valeurs danoises, fondement de la Folkeskole ; Danish values, the foundation of the Folkeskole
50 , pp. 99 - 111 .
This article draws on empirical data from two comparative studies (McNess 2002, Osborn et al. 2002) to dicuss, from an 'outsider's' point of view, the underlying values that can be identified in the priorities and practice of teachers in the Danish Folkeskole. Following a short discussion of the historical development of schooling in Denmark, the article draws attention to the continuing values which appear in current education policy and are evidenced in the structure and organisation of the Danish Folkeskole. ; This article presents the continuing underlying values which continue to permeate current educational policy and the structure and organisation of the Danish Folkeskole. Values of democracy, consensus and co-operation, and the prime importance placed on good communication and the social and affective side of learning are illustrated in the pivotal role of the klasselœrer, the teacher responsible for the class. Alongside her long-range educational and pastoral aim, she plays a long-term role as a counsellor, encouraging maximum contact between the family and the school.

In: Politiques sociales et familiales, Band 112, Heft 1, S. 29-37
15 years on : revisiting the " Danish model".
The common expression " The Danish model" is very misleading because it suggests that Denmark could be copied abroad. Only to the extent that Danish society is consistent and cohesive can Denmark be considered a " model", i. e. a system of structural relationships that appear sustainable over the years. Denmark has undergone a considerable number of reforms and political changes over the period 1990-2013. When one revisits – as the present text does – analyses conducted since 1997, in parallel and in cooperation with Danish colleagues (especially Henning Jørgensen), " breaking points" emerge, but also some continuity. There is no doubt as to Danish society keeping its distinctive traits, when one compares it with French society. Yet, Danish social protection and Danish social policies, as well as Danish industrial relations and its system of government have been profoundly transformed.

Danish Security Policy : International Activism and European Ambiguity, by Sten Rynning
Danish security policy has become activist and militarized in the post-Cold War era. Denmark has singled out the UN and Nato as pillars of a new order which is compatible with its 'liberal peasant values'. However, tensions have arisen from divergences between these values and European integration and as a consequence Denmark has opted out of the rapidly developing defense dimension of the EU. The ambiguities of Danish security policy give rise to distinct problems for European countries wishing to coordinate their policies on US missile defense and Baltic stability. A new Danish debate on security and defense policy is unfolding and may represent an opportunity for Denmark and its European partners to shape new responses to common problems.

In: Revue française d'administration publique, Band 86, Heft 1, S. 293-300
Danish Civil Servants and Policy-Making.
The tradition of the Danish civil service, a product of its historical heritage, is one of impartiality and independence with respect to political power. The recruitment of several political counsellors on the basis of their affiliation to a political party has not changed this broad picture but has brought about a number of developments. The domination of lawyers at the highest level has created a space for their association with economists and political scientists, reinforcing the capacity for policy making. Ministers will henceforth play a more active role of initiation at the heart of an increasingly competitive organisation.

Jean-Maurice Bizière : The French Revolution as seen from the Danish embassy in Paris (1788-1794).
The correspondance of the Danish diplomatic agents in Paris during the Revolution is particularly valuable because of its impressive time span. Otto Von Blome stayed in Paris until July 1793 ; he was replaced by a legation secretary, Johan Kønemann until July 1797 and then by a new ambassador Christopher Vilhelm Dreyer. These different correspondants drew up a rich chronicle of the revolutionary years which mirrors their definitely hostile reactions to the events but also their criticisms of the Ancien Régime and their appreciation of certain positive aspects of revolutionary policy. They did not underestimate the very scale of the revolutionary changes.
