In the final pages of the Second Reply, Descartes talks both about how the theses in the Meditations on First Philosophy are demonstrated, and about the writing style he adopted for this work. The way he demonstrates is analysis; his writing style is meditation. Reading the Meditations depends, fundamentally, on understanding those two things, as well as the relationship between them. With this paper we intend, first, to analyze how Descartes understands analysis as a method and what meditation means; and then, to understand the way in which that method of analysis and the practice of meditation are coordinated to engender the path followed in Meditations on First Philosophy. Considering his analysis as a method for problem solving, and taking into consideration the meaning of meditative writing styles at the time Descartes lived, we defend the thesis that meditation, for Descartes, means to penetrate slowly and carefully into the problems from which the Meditations have been developed.
This article aims to investigate whether the term "right to the city" can be considered as a hegemonic articulation in the city of São Paulo and the analysis is performed using the Political Theory of Discourse (PTD), developed by Laclau and Mouffe, as a theoretical lens. We traced through history the emergence of the term and the groups that relate to the notion it portrays, having June 2013 demonstrations in Brazil as a starting point: an event that destabilized the sense attributed to a previous hegemony, the city of capital. The local government's response to those demonstrations was the implementation of the Coordinating Body for the Promotion of the Right to the City, with the intention of establishing the term as a nodal point. By analyzing the discourse of the different groups, we conclude that the right to the city is a counter-hegemony that has an antagonistic relationship with the current hegemony. The main contribution of this article is to identify and analyze the different meanings attributed to the term 'right to the city' in São Paulo and how the mapped actors discursively interact to propose new practices for production of urban space. One of the most vibrant theories that constitute the theoretical framework of Foreign Policy Analysis is the Decision Unit Framework created by Margaret & Charles Hermann. This article aims to present a critical view of this theory, demonstrating its strengths & weaknesses, always with the attempt of demystifying some of its excessive simplifications in relation to actors' characteristics. We exemplify a more sharpened analysis of the coalition decision-making process through the demonstration of the conflict that opposed then Portuguese President Spinola & the Armed Forces Movement (MFA) during the Portuguese democratic transition process between 1974 & 1975. In November 2013, Kiev was the stage of a wave of demonstrations demanding Ukraine's association with the European Union, as well as a commitment with institutional reforms in the country. Despite the straight connection to Ukraine's internal situation, this crisis cannot be dissociated from the country's broader geopolitical and security framework. In that regard, and aiming at shedding light on the Ukrainian crisis exogenous and endogenous dynamics, this paper starts by deconstructing the conflict's internal dimension. It follows by analysing how its external dimension has contributed to the events' unfolding. The paper finishes with some final reflexions on the Ukrainian crisis and its overall consequences for European peace and security. Adapted from the source document.
This article aims to evaluate the intuitionist problem with non-constructive mathematicals proofs. For this constructivist position the principle of the excluded middle, of classical logic, shouldn't operate on mathematical demonsrations. Non-constructive proofs aren't accepted, and the constructive proofs are the only with positive character. After a brief introduction about intuitionism and its creator, the article will address the relationship between the principle of the excluded middle and the mathematicals demonstrations, so to talk about the problem of non-constructive proofs and the consequences for not to accepting them. Taking the mathematics only as a mental construction project, the intuitionism break with the dominant platonic realism and establishing a fruitful debate on the foundations of mathematics.
By associating processes of constitution of digital objects to the concept of gambiarra, we aim to uncover the modes of existence that render the gambiarra as a crucial operator in the relationship between techniques, bodies and society. The aesthetic, political, and cognitive dimensions of the concept form an alternative version of technicity that allows us to understand the complex and even paradoxical aspects of digital sociotechnical formations. The empirical demonstration of these ideas will take place in three levels: the redirection of capacities of processing in video game consoles and video cards; the reconfiguration of software and user interfaces; and the resulting invention of rhythms and ways of seeing, feeling and acting in video games.
To the demonstrations, performed in digital environments, which we designate as erasures, we underline the attempts to boycott the artist, question his legitimacy, exempt him from responsibility and claim some authority over the show.
This study is about the large Brazilian civil demonstrations which began in June 2013, with the aim of identifying the main aspects that characterize them, and to understand the presence of social networks and alternative communication in the process. This is a first approach based on literature research and unsystematic observation of manifestations as they happened, and through virtual networks as well as the tracking of media coverage of conventional and alternative media. We conclude that civil society has shown its strength, and exposed the existence of a universe of communication larger than the mainstream media.

; The purpose of this article is to examine the dynamics of the debate on social networking platforms from the perspective of collective identity and collective action concepts. More specifically, we seek to identify who are the central actors on Twitter in the debate about the two delivery app workers' strike against the work regime and working conditions during the pandemics (UberEats, iFood, Rappi, etc.) occurred on July 1 and 25, 2020, in Brazil. We also examined whether the most influential users played a role in the formation of communities around their interpretation of this topic. To do so, we collected 535,178 tweets published in two periods of workers' demonstrations, which occurred between June and July 2020. Based on temporal analysis of clusters, we identified the moment of entrance of each community on the debate and discussed how profiles of influencers, social movements, politicians, and celebrities on Twitter played central roles in mobilizing supporters and fostering public engagement linked to acts on the networks. The results show that social mobilization in digital environments occurs from interactions between groups with great involvement with the causes and profiles of more ephemeral performance, whose participation is fundamental for the promotion and dissemination of acts.
