This study attempts to examine the impact of human rights and economic growth by utilizing two measures of economic growth for developing countries and an unbalanced data spanning from 1961-2017. The hypothesis of the study asserts that improvement in human right protection score increases economic growth in an economy. Firstly I conducted panel unit root test to see if the variables are stationary. After verifying the stationarity of variables at levels (i.e., I(0)) based on panel unit root tests, empirical estimations were conducted without the fear of potential spurious regression problem. According to the estimation results, in parallel to prior expectations, positive statistically significant effect on economic growth was identified for the variables of human right protection, physical capital investment, education investment, openness whereas negative statistically significant effect on economic growth was identified for the variable of inflation in all models estimated. Estimation results indicate that countries trying to reach to higher economic growth, besides the other determinants of economic growth, must pay attention to human right protection and implement policies that prioritizing human right protection.
; In this paper, the effects of corruption and democracy on foreign direct investments are examined empirically for 10 developing countries over the period 1995-2013. Panel unit root tests, panel cointegration test, panel FMOLS estimator, and panel vector error correction causality methods are employed in the paper. According to the findings, there is a cointegration relationship among corruption, democracy, and foreign direct investments. Decrease of corruption and increase of democracy level, affect foreign direct investments positively in 10 developing countries which constitute panel, in accordance with evaluating estimate results of cointegration coefficients. According to the findings obtained from the causality analysis, there is unidirectional causality from corruption to foreign direct investments in the short run while there is unidirectional causality from corruption and democracy to foreign direct investments in the long run. These findings support the hypothesis which argue that democracy and corruption have significant effects on foreign direct investments. Today, it can be seen that foreign investors test the trustworthiness of political regime in host country. Reviewing policies towards foreign investors appears as a substantial factor for host countries.

--- In this study, the qualitative research methods, literature and content analysis, comparison, sampling, and quantitative research methods, descriptive and relational models have been used to evaluate the legislation for the governance of the Sao Paulo Metropolitan Region and Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, within the terms of metropolitan governance models and approaches. The book approaches the history of Finnish development cooperation through the experiences of development aid workers. At its core is a small group of Finns (experts and officials from different fields) who have worked with international development aid in Asia, Africa and Latin America. Their memories and experiences, together with diverse archival material offer an interesting window into the world of development (cooperation), or "Aidland", from the 1960s to the turn of the millennium.
The research focuses on the personal motives and experiences of Finnish aid workers from the 1960s to the 2000s. The book offers perspectives on the historical construction of Aidland since the 1940s and on the gradual integration of Finland and the Finns into its structures. It describes the mindset of the first two generations of aid workers and the factors that made them interested in developing countries. The book follows their education, their first contacts with Aidland, adaptation to work and conditions, returning home and the challenges that come with it. The study gives the reader a view of the power positions, hierarchies and contradictions in Aidland and development cooperation, which at times led Finns to reassess their motives and justify to themselves the meaningfulness of the entire undertaking. Through their experiences, the book also deals with the less-known side of development cooperation, such as corruption, prejudices, and opposition to development projects, as well as their occasionally unwanted consequences in partner/recipient countries. It also sheds light on the effects of the Aidland experience on an individual's worldview and identity.
The book is an academic study suitable for a wide audience, from university students to ordinary readers interested in development cooperation. The book helps to understand both the history of development and the construction of multi-level connections of Finnish society with the countries of the Global South. It is therefore also ideally suited for readers interested in the development of Finland's internationalization in the late twentieth century. For its part, the book contributes to wider public debates on development cooperation.
