In this article we will examine to what extent Portuguese economic diplomacy has worked having in mind the national interest and business interests. The analysis will focus on the cases of Galp and Unicer. We will start to enunciate the relevant aspects that connect economic diplomacy and business diplomacy; then we will review the evolution and characteristics of Portuguese economic diplomacy; and finally we will study the Galp and Unicer presence in the Angolan market. The main conclusions may allow a more rigorous definition of the Portuguese economic diplomacy model. Adapted from the source document.

In the year that will see the end of Kofi Anna's mandate, this article seeks to give some perspective to the role of the UN Secretary General taking into account both the power structure of the Organization & international context rapidly changing. Firstly, the usual mechanisms of selection of the S-G are examined, & some thought is given to the different ways in which the issue has been addressed by the great powers, in particular by the U.S.A. The author also reviews the potential candidates being discussed in the corridors of world diplomacy & presents some hypotheses as to what can be expected from Kofi Annan's successor. The analysis of the relations Brazil-Asia shows the existence of certain efforts towards a relationship more consistent & wider among both, politically, economically & academically. However, the exchange rate among them is still way below the desirable. Therefore, the perspectives & the possibilities of growth of such relationship among Brazil & the Asian region are discussed, as a way of confirming the initiatives already existent. The foreign policy options of Brazil are limited in view of the superior hard power of the established great powers. Brazil's soft balancing strategy involves institutional strategies such as the formation of limited diplomatic coalitions or ententes, such as BRIC, to constrain the power of the established great powers. The BRIC states have been amongst the most powerful drivers of incremental change in world diplomacy & they benefit most from the connected global power shifts. In a global order shaped by great powers through international institutions, those players who effectively operate within them as innovators, coalition builders & spokesmen while preserving great amounts of sovereignty & independence have the potential to substantially influence the outcomes of future global politics.
