Since Sebastian Kurz was elected Chancellor in 2017, Austrian internal politics has changed significantly, and there is a visible rapprochement with several countries in the region, including Hungary. There is a consensus between Hungary and Austria on many issues, including the defense of Christian culture, the European way of life, and the protection of society. Both countries are urging the establishment of a common European military force and the strengthening of border guards. Austria is Hungary's second most important trading partner in terms of total trade volume, and Austria is one of the largest investors in Hungary today. Considering these points, it is worth examining how the system of diplomatic relations between the two countries has developed in recent years.

AbstractWe apply variations and extensions of structural balance theory to analyze the dynamics of geopolitical relations using data from the virtual world Eve Online. The highly detailed data enable us to study the interplay of alliance size, power, and geographic proximity on the prevalence and conditional behavior of triads built from empirical political alliances. Through our analysis, we reveal the degree to which the behaviors of players conform to the predictions of structural balance theory and whether our augmentations of the theory improve these predictions. In addition to studying the time series of the proportions of triad types, we investigate the conditional changes in triad types and the formation of polarized political coalitions. We find that player behavior largely conforms to the predictions of a multipolar version of structural balance theory that separates strong and weak configurations of balanced and frustrated triads. The high degree of explanatory power of structural balance theory in this context provides strong support for both the theory and the use of virtual worlds in social science research.

Argues for an expanded friendly and cooperative relationship between Russia and Turkey that overcomes the stereotypically represented relationship of conflict and rivalry especially in a globally organized world that now must engage with asymmetric threats of terrorism in addition to increasing cultural, environmental, drug trafficking, and arms smuggling problems. Focuses on Turkey's foreign policy to explain how Turkey must address these issues in cooperative international efforts. Turkey's relationships are examined in three areas: with the West, Europe, and Euro-Atlantic organizations; with the Middle East; and with Eurasia. Turkey's positive trade ties established with the Russian Federation exemplify at the bilateral level what can be done multilaterally and globally to advance a cooperative and secure international arena.
