The American settlement has created a very interesting situation in domestic English politics—a situation in which there are bound to be developments, mough no one can yet say what they will be. It is still very arguable whether the decision of the nation to return to party politics immediately after the German collapse was a wise one. There are arguments in favour of a National Government and arguments against one. An advantage of party politics is certainly that an effective opposition has an important part to play in keeping die Government up to the mark. The absence of such an Opposition in war-time does not so much matter, for then we have the enemy to perform this function of pace maker. But a National Government in peace-time certainly runs the danger of contracting fatty degeneration of the heart.

The paper deals with various aspects of economic and social crisis in the DPRK on the eve of 2010's. Basically, there is an evident functional paralysis of the command economy that leads to its complete decay and breakdown. The result is emergence of a set of isolated sectors and segments living by different rules. Also, it triggers major social processes which undermine the stability of North Korean political system and its ideology. Different options of future developments are considered in the light of possible similarities with processes characteristic of the Soviet Union, East European countries and China in the past. Special attention is paid to actual and potential role of external factors, primarily to the influence of Chinese policy towards North Korea and the recent contacts with South Korea.

Following the July 2004 Framework, this paper suggest that regardless of low or high level of reductions, Iceland, Norway, Switzerland, the European Union, and United States have problems with both Total AMS and the overall base level of Total Trade Distorting Domestic Support. When recent policy reforms and likely changes such as the Agenda 2000, the Midterm Review Reform, the proposed sugar reform in the European Union and the farm bills of 1996 and 2002 in the United States are taken into account, it becomes clear that both the European Union and the United States would be able to accommodate low or moderate reductions in both Total AMS and Total Trade Distorting Domestic Support. In respect of high reductions, further domestic reforms would be needed for both the European Union and the United States.

All ASEAN countries face the same major challenge in finding the most appropriate political system and maintaining a balance in the development of their values as they become much more involved in global development. The author outlines and highlights main domestic developments and their impact on foreign policy of six memberstates of the ASEAN. (DÜI-Sen)
