Gunnar Myrdal published Asian Drama in 1968, a work which made important analytical contributions to our understanding of development but was deeply pessimistic about Asia's future prospects. Since then, contrary to Myrdal's expectations, Asia's development has been remarkable, although transformations have been uneven across countries and unequal between people. This paper explains the conception and design of the UNU-WIDER study on Asian Transformations, which seeks to analyse the amazing story of economic development in Asia over the past 50 years. It begins with reflections on Gunnar Myrdal, the author, and rethinking Asian Drama, the book, in retrospect 50 years later. It goes on to outline the rationale and objective of the study. It then discusses some critical issues and lessons that emerge - diversity in development, history and context, economic growth and structural change, wellbeing of people, markets and governments, economic openness, and institutions and policies - to serve as a teaser. It concludes with some brief reflections on Asia's future prospects over the next 25 years.
Kashmir dispute is an extremely complicated phenomenon offering obviously an unmanageable challenge to contemporary conflict resolution methods and techniques. The research article attempts to investigate the relationship between the Hurriyat and unrest in Kashmir and in addition to this, it tries to examine the role of separatists powers in regulating the Kashmir unrest. The study is based on an argument that how the separatist parties are striking extremist politics on Kashmir issue and how they are preserving the power of separatism. The paper will examine the major reasons that are responsible for the growth of separatist forces, insurgency, unrest and how it gained momentum only after 1989. Finally, the paper will explore some of the contemporary trends prevailing in the Kashmir conflict.
This paper explores the prevailing readings of the Atlantis story. The purpose of this paper is to show how interpretative judgements on the narrator's intentions, the objectives of the characters, and the genre and the development of the story prepares the grounds for the political understanding of Athens and Atlantis. In this way, I will show how the dramatic framework influences the expression of political thought. I argue that the most important dramatic feature of the story is Critias' interaction with Socrates and Timaeus, which explains why Critias composes two speeches that are essentially dedicated to the question of political origins.

Examining the following selected Renaissance dramas: Marlowe's The Jew of Malta (1585), Shakespeare's The Merchant of Venice (1596), Massinger's The Renegado (1624), Daborne's A Christian Turn'd Turk (1612), and Goffe's The Raging Turk (1656), this research investigates Renaissance dramatists' portrayal of biased Christian standpoints that govern the relation with the non-Christian to uncover whether that dramatization represents the playwrights' participation in validating those attitudes or their critique of politicizing the Christian faith, in both ways underscoring the existence of an ideological 'political faith' issue. It turns out that the period's plays may reveal that such stereotypes are only recruited to further and validate financial gain, political dominance and racial discrimination; that is, political Christianity. However, the playwrights' attitudes remain subject to their unrevealed intentions, and it is, therefore, left to the reader/audience to take sides. Tactically, the dramatists emerge ahead of the Christian and secular politicians of their time as they assume the safe side of impartiality.

Arabic drama as a collection of written texts belongs to the so-called "new" Arabic literature, which has been developing since the 19th century. Prior to this date, in the period of Arabic classical literature, only few dramas had been written. On the other hand, inspired by religion and folklore, numerous forms of theatrical plays developed (theatre of shadows, farce theatre, epic performances etc.). All of these forms were improvised and-in the second half of the 19th century-were replaced by the theatre based on the concept of dramatic text adopted from Europe. Egypt, where Egyptians, Libyans and Syrians (mainly political emigrants) founded numerous theatrical ensembles, has come to be the centre of Arab theatre. Due to their tours to the Middle East and Maghreb, the concepts of the theatre and drama have developed homogeneously in the whole Arab world. These concepts have been formed under the influence of European pat- terns: numerous plays have appeared which were borrowings from European works, especially dramas. However, Arabic drama, which created a synthesis of the native and alien patterns, has been shaped as a new quality. The contemporary Arabic drama comprises thousands of plays. I divided this huge output to the three main directions which I called neoclassicism, realism and creationism. ; Maciej Klimiuk
Tosielämän kuvaamisen ideaali on silti elänyt sitkeästi. ; The doctoral dissertation suggests that the historical and ideological formation of television institutions must be regarded as a constitutive element both of the medium itself and its particular aesthetics. In the Finnish Broadcasting Company (YLE), TV 2 had from its inception a mandate to broadcast more provincial events and subjects while TV 1 has been supposed to offer viewers an all-around perspective on Finnish life. The doctoral dissertation deals with the production, the public criticism, and the authorship of TV 2 serial drama. It asks, for instance, how the programs and discussions on television articulate the convergence of cultural, aesthetic, and political traditions toward the use of realism and seriality as terms. Both terms are taken as two of the norms firmly rooted in the traditions of Finnish television criticism.
Citation: Crump, Mabel. The history of the drama. Senior thesis, Kansas State Agricultural College, 1897. ; Morse Department of Special Collections ; Introduction: The desire to give expression to feelings and conceptions is inseperable from human nature. Man expresses his thoughts and emotions by gesture and speech and these expressions he soon learns to vary into song and dance. One form of expression is imitation. "To imitate," says Aristotle, "is instinctive in man from his infancy; and from imitation all men naturally receive pleasure." The assumption of character whether real or fictitious is therefore the earliest step towards the drama. Action implies an operation of the will and an execution of its resolutions. It implies a procedure from cause to result. Every imitation of action by action is a drama. After this step has been taken it only remains to assume a form regulated by literature. A drama should contain a unity of action and this unity of action means that everything in it should form a link in a single chain of cause and effect. At all periods of history the stage has been a mirror of the age and race in which it has written. Dramatic poets reproduce the life of men around them; exhibiting their aims, hopes, aspirations and passions in an abstract more intensely colored than the diffuse facts of daily experience. "The result obtained by the drama is twofold. On the one hand it is strictly local, national, true to the epoch of its origin and on the other hand it is a glass held up to nature reflecting what is permanent in man beneath the customs and costumes, the creeds and politics of an age or nation. It seems perfectly obvious and natural in the invention of dramatic art because man has a great disposition to mimicry.
