The purpose of this thesis is to show the primacy of the theory over the empirics and prove that econometrics cannot be decisive to question the theory. For this, we rely on the limits of econometrics highlighted in discussions of monetary policy since the 1960s. We adopt an approach based on epistemological arguments to show that these debates go beyond the cleavage theory/empirics and that they integrate a difference of vision as to the usefulness of an empirical model. The research program of the Cowles Commission was formed around a particular articulation of three fundamental elements: a theoretical repository of Keynes' General Theory, a formal model based on the relative consensus on the IS-LM diagram and econometric techniques to estimate the parameters of this model. It is the nature and the degree of interdependence between these three elements that are contested by the monetarists and supporters of the VAR modeling. While Keynesians make a clear distinction between the theoretical model and the estimated model, this distinction is not clear and does not seem relevant to the monetarists. Sims (1980) criticizes the structural models of the Cowles Commission for including too many theoretical hypotheses empirically untested. He proposes to review the exogeneity assumptions through direct and specific econometric tests. However, the empirical indeterminacy of causality in a VAR, linked to the problem of observational equivalence (Basmann, 1965), requires the adoption of an identification scheme on the basis of a theoretical a priori to identify the monetary policy shocks. This is an extreme case of the problem of under-determination of theory by data raised by the Duhem-Quine thesis (Duhem 1906, Quine, 1951). Furthermore, Hoover (2009) notes that the impulse response analysis in a VAR provides a good example of what Cartwright (2007) calls "counterfactual impostor". The development of the Error Correction Models and cointegrated VAR models has renewed the analysis of monetarist proposals. However, the ...

However, the links between the proposals for cointégration, the notions of long-term equilibrium and short term disequilibrium are rarely interpreted in the context of a rigorous and fully specified theoretical model. According to Faust and Leeper (1994), the identification of a model by imposing constraints may not be fruitful when economic theory does not clearly distinguish the short-term and long-term dynamics. Faust and Whiteman (1997) note the absence of an arbitration criterion in these approaches apparent in the presence of conflict between the theoretical principle and the adjustment to the data; otherwise subordination of the theory to the econometrics. Alongside the issue of identification, the Lucas critique (1976) is the second fundamental criticism facing the use of econometric models. Lucas (1980, 1986) adopts a new epistemological posture considering the theoretical model as a 'fiction' and not as a set of proposals on the behavior of a real economy. He supports the idea of explaining the cycle in terms of discipline of equilibrium (Lucas, 1977). The DSGE models, that constitute the fundamental models of the New Synthesis theory, are strongly influenced by Lucas' methodology and are a continuity of the RBC models (Taouil, 2011). Benati and Surico (2009) demonstrated the superiority of a DSGE model with respect to a structural VAR (SVAR). This failure is a direct consequence of inter-equation restrictions imposed by the rational expectations hypothesis, initially raised by Sargent's critics (1979).
Planification, politique agricole, histoire économique ; Three econometric models of the French farming sector have been worked out in the last few years : the CMTR model by the "Service d'Etude et de Synthèse" of the ministry of Agriculture, the SIMAGRI model by the "Direction de la Prévision" of the Finance ministry, and the INRA historico-statistical model. The results of this last model compared with the first two underline the need to improve present knowledge of the theory of supply in farming.
Mots clés : Changement climatique, sécurité alimentaire, PIB agricole, ARDL, Maroc Abstract The agricultural sector is one of the most sensitive sectors to climate change, this sector is directly affected by temperature and rainfall and the rate of arable land, which are an input in food security. The main objective of this paper is to assess the impacts of climate change and arable land on food security in Morocco between 1971 and 2017, using a cointegration model based on the ARDL (Autoregressive Staggered Delayed Rise) approach. The empirical results show that an increase in precipitation has a positive effect on agricultural GDP, the increase in temperature by 1% has a negative effect on agricultural GDP with a decrease of 3.14% in the short term and 5% in the long term, while arable land does not directly influence the country's food security. In order to minimize the negative effects of climate change in ...
This thesis aims at specifying the content of notion of equilibrium. To this effect, we study miscellaneous models that share the generation of an analysis in terms of equilibrium, but give a different sense to this notion. It appears from this survey that the theory of competitive general equilibrium and its corollary, equilibrium as a fixed point of a process, form the most adapted and coherent frame to understand the notion of equilibrium. However, even among the latter theory, reference to the notion of equilibrium induces a series of difficulties at the level of uniqueness, stability or time dimension. We note, therefore, that these difficulties lessen if we consider equilibrium as a basic concept of a planning program. According to this realisation, we develop a state and intra-company planning procedure which relies on the theory of optimal control and field separation. The adjacent idea is to prove that we can obtain elegant and good results in order to consolidate research in the field of planning techniques working out.

There are frightening inequalities in health and access to care worldwide. Thus, health, represents an important component of human capital, is an essential sector for the development of any economy. Many people in the world have no access to health care or without medical insurance (WHO, 2013), especially in developing countries, millions of people suffer from preventable diseases such as infectious diseases, malnutrition. (WHO, 2016). Like many developing countries, Morocco has implemented, in recent years, several reforms aimed at improving the accessibility of health care services with the objective of eliminating disparities inherent to the characteristics (socioeconomic, demographic, epidemiological.) of the population on the one hand and the supply of care (type of care, distance,.) on the other. This article uses data from the national survey on household living standards conducted by the Haut-commissariat au Plan in 2006/07 among 7062 households (+36,000 people) in the country's 16 regions to study the demand for health care in Morocco. A health care demand model was used, which, through an estimation of the binomial Logit model, made it possible to identify the determinants of health care use. The results obtained show that the rate of use of modern health care is higher among patients in urban areas and those who have medical coverage, as well as health care expenditures that remain high despite the implementation of several public policies. JEL Classification: C5 Paper type: Empirical research.
This article analyses the spatial effects in farmers' investment decisions, in particular the role of neighbourhood effects, for the specific case of dairy farmers in a region of Western France. Investment decisions are measured by investment spikes, enabling the analysis to be linked to the literature on adoption of technology innovation. The main contribution is in accounting for the effect of the previous decisions of the farmers' neighbours, with the help of a spatial probit econometric model that includes investment age. Results show that farmers are not immediately influenced by the simultaneously-made decisions of their neighbours, but rather by the decisions taken by their neighbours in the year before. However, this positive influence does not compensate for the negative effect of own previous investment decisions

Comovement is ubiquitous in financial markets. The evolution of asset characteristics, such as price, volatility or liquidity, exhibits a high degree of correlation across assets---a phenomenon that in this thesis will generically be denoted with the term comovement. The origins of such comovement are legion. In their investment decisions, economic agents are not only influenced by their idiosyncrasies---a large part of investment motivations are shared over a population. Demographics or the political situation can generate constraints that are similar for a large number of people. A country's geography can greatly influence the sectors in which it is most productive, which implies that many people are sometimes subject to the same risk factors. Moreover, it is well known that mimesis is part of human psychology, and that people mimic their peers even when taking personal decisions. For these reasons, and many more, financial markets have a very systematic character, and studying the nature and intensity of such comovement is important from a risk management point of view. This thesis studies comovement in financial markets under three dimensions. First, I consider comovement in equity liquidity. The liquidity of an asset is the ease with which that asset can be bought or sold. Liquidity can be measured in various ways and the first chapter concludes that market movements of two different liquidity measures have the same origin. Second, I study the impact correlation comovement on the price of stocks. The correlations between stock returns and the market return evolve through time and are correlated themselves. The effect of this correlation comovement on asset prices is however ambiguous and there is not enough evidence to depict a clear image. Finally, I develop a model to investigate contagion dynamics in the secondary market for European sovereign bonds over the past two years. More particularly, I study whether changes in the bond price of one specific country have an impact the next day on the average bond ...
This thesis contains three econometric essays on child human capital and well-being. Each essay has a distinct methodology to meet the purpose. In the first chapter, we evaluate the long-term effects of a reform of universal child care in Canada on children's health, motor and social development, and behaviour. We show that the policy had negative effects on preschool children's well-being, but these effects tend to disappear as the child gets older. We find that this pattern persist even ten years after the implementation of the reform. The second chapter focuses on the effect of the intensity of child care on preschool children's cognitive development using propensity score matching with multivalued treatments. We show that the effects of child care are significantly heterogeneous and vary by family socioeconomic status, schooling or not of the child, the intensity of child care and the type of child care arrangement. The third chapter models mathematics trajectories of Canadian children aged 7 to 15 years and identifies risk factors during early childhood on the membership of these trajectories using Group-Based Trajectory Modeling (Nagin, 2005).
The present paper reviews in a plain language and with only limited statistical formalization, the virtues of econometrics in the field of competition law. Following a brief introduction to the origins of econometrics, we explain first that econometrics provides assistance to decision-making in a variety of fields (merger control, abuse of dominance, etc.). Second, we show that econometrics also constitute a decision-reading instrument, which may assist competition agencies, courts, firms and their counsels in understanding the content of the law. The econometric models discussed in the paper are illustrated by examples coming from well-known legal cases. Our conclusion is that in light of the novel sophisticated issues arising in antitrust enforcement (damages estimation, etc.), the nascent "econometrics of competition law" exhibit promising features. ; Peer reviewed
