The volume collects nine essays on Italian politics, economics, and law during Fascism. Some are dedicated to the ideal objectives of corporatism, aiming at the renewal of politics, institutions and culture, and the objectively dismal results of the implemented policies. Economic researches analyze the debated abolishment of the inheritance tax in the 1923, and the various policies proposed by some Italian economists to counter the disastrous effects of the Great Depression. Specific attention is also given to the problem of the development of Italy's southern regions. An essay is further dedicated to the influence of corporatism and idealism on the mathematical economist Bruno de Finetti. In the field of law, authors investigate the long lasting features impressed by Fascism on Italian administrative law and, in general, the permanence of a typically Fascist magniloquent style in the Italian jurisdictional language. Lastly, as suggested by title of this volume, a chapter analyses the social and political thinking of Carlo Rosselli, leading anti-fascist intellectual who paid dearly for his dissent.
The book investigates some aspects of the Italian economic development looking at some usually forgotten cases of international success: the small-medium enterprises specialized in "light" productions, such as food, beverages, and apparel. These firms have shown a peculiar ability to adapt, in order to cope with the instabilities of the international markets, modifying both their organization and their business strategies, elaborating an unusual entrepreneurial style, more attentive to the resources, constraints and vulnerabilities of the context.
After the Second World War, the economies of advanced Countries have long been characterized by inclusive economic growth. In recent decades, on the other hand, there has been a steady increase in inequalities and a worsening for low-income social groups. What is the possibility of rebuilding a more inclusive development like that of the post-war three decades? Is it a viable road? And under what conditions? Or should we instead speculate that divorce is inevitable between economic growth and social cohesion in advanced democracies? There is no sure answer to this question, but it can be a good exercise, especially for those who believe that inclusive development is an essential component of the quality and stability of democracies, asking themselves under what conditions we can try to pursue this goal. The path proposed in this text focuses, in a comparative key, on the significant differences in the forms of economic and social regulation between the various advanced democracies that are reflected in more or less inclusive development paths and models of capitalism. Why have some countries managed to better defend the conditions for inclusive development over the past three decades? Through which economic and social regulatory choices? Moreover, another overlooked question is worth asking. How has politics created consensus around these choices and made them possible, while in other contexts it has supported growth accompanied by greater inequalities? What is certain is that giving up the goal of finding a more satisfactory balance between economic growth and social cohesion not only jeopardizes economic development, but also weakens and impoverishes democratic institutions.
Cultural and creative industries play an important role in the processes of cultural, social and economic development of Italy. In particular, in South Italy, Campania region is characterized by a considerable creative effervescence, which represents a strategic resource for the growth of the territory and the empowerment of young people. However, in this territorial context, characterized by profound internal differences in the availability of resources and services, the "creativity-culture-development" axis constitutes a critical issue, highlighted by the social, economic and organizational repercussions of the Covid-19 pandemic. Starting from a theoretical reflection on the cultural and creative industry, the book presents the results of an exploratory study conducted between 2020 and 2021 by the Osservatorio Territoriale Giovani (OTG) of the Department of Social Sciences of the University of Naples Federico II in collaboration with the Campanian local government. The research is based on twenty qualitative interviews to privileged witnesses and returns a map of the limits and resources of the Campanian cultural and creative industries in relation to the impact of the pandemic and provides some ideas for the future institutional initiatives aimed at strengthening the sector and promoting youth creativity.
In the rich Western societies, the several crises at the beginning of this century focus on the worsening of old economic and social problems, which have taken on new importance in the cities undergoing a rapid transformation because of the globalization and the new structures of the labor market. These are issues that have called into question the traditional political systems, with significant effects on the evolution of democratic systems. These issues have been raised throughout the 20th century and today they are once again central to the structural transformations aforementioned and to the crisis of the welfare systems built in Europe during the so-called Golden Age. The theme of living in the peripheries reappears in a dramatic way; a problem exacerbated by the fact that today these areas are no longer just those outside the cities (shaped by the processes of the economic modernization of the 19th and 20th centuries) but they deeply characterize the urban fabric and are linked to the existential conditions of those who live there. The book combines historical and geographical perspectives, according to an interdisciplinary approach. It is possible to examine the policies adopted and to be adopted in these territories and the role that social forces and associative networks have played and can play in identifying adequate and durable responses to such complex problems. A long-term view and a more systemic analysis allow a reflection on the relationship between socio-economic development and the processes of construction of the living together in the different contexts of European cities. Social actors, in their various forms, have offered and are able to offer strategic contributions for the production of new development models, in which the quality of life in working-class peripheries and the processes of social inclusion will be once again a priority, as required by the urban agendas of this new millennium.

The book reconstructs the utopian tensions present in positivism, generally projected towards imaginary descriptions of the future, taking its cue from Comte's doctrine of political positivism in which he describes an ideal society based on collaboration between different classes. The temptation to describe the future in terms of achievement of perfection is a trait shared by many other writers that were close to positivism. Nevertheless, the book demonstrates how at times these operations of alternative history can nourish an image that is not confident, but on the contrary concerned about the repercussions on human qualities of a world overly grounded in technology and the tangible values of economic development.
Grandi gruppi industriali cinesi progettano, sviluppano e fabbricano prodotti propriamente cinesi, non più soltanto made in Chinabensì made by China.

The present chapter introduces the concepts and the issues about Italian inner areas, as defined by the Strategia nazionale per le Aree Interne (National Strategy for Inner Areas – SNAI). In particular, it focuses on a new enterprise model called Community-based cooperatives; they play a fundamental role in the regional development process, from economic, social and environmental points of view. Finally, the key elements of these new cooperatives are highlighted.
This book explains the nature of capitalism both as a production system and as a historical process. Capitalism has superseded the systems based on rent and privileges, has freed up enterprise, brought in competition, set merit above corporative relations and patronage; has created a steady increase in wealth. The process has generated the development of the middle classes, a critical culture civil rights and democracy. However, the pursuit of profit has always tended to op-press the weaker categories and rob the less advanced economies. These two contrary trends cannot coexist indefinitely. Today the essential clash is between welfare for all and neoliberalism, based on increasing inequalities, rising financial rents and the exploitation of workers.
