Summary Nowadays, research without a role for digital data and data analysis tools is barely possible. As a result, we see an increasing interest in research data management, as this enables the replication of research outcomes and the reuse of research data for new research activities. Data management planning outlines how to handle data, both during research and after the research is completed. Trusted data repositories are places were research data are archived and made available for the long term. This article covers the state of the art concerning data management and data repository demands with a focus on qualitative data sets.

A review essay on De interventiestaat ([The Intervention State], de Beus, J. W., & van Doorn, A. A. [Eds], Meppel Amsterdam: Boom, 1984 [see IRPS 30/85a39263]) & Neil Gilbert's Capitalism and the Welfare State -- Dilemmas of Social Benevolence (New Haven/London: Yale U Press, 1983 [see IRPS No. 30/85a39648]). Analysis shows that the "intervention state" is an ambiguous concept, supported by conflicting liberal, etatist, & neocorporativist models. Attention is given to the universalization & commercialization of the Dutch welfare state. Most current research illustrates clearly that it is the Mc that derives the most benefits from the Dutch welfare system. M. Meeks

Changes in computer science, information gathering, and the possibilities of the internet continue to vastly influence the way social sciences and humanities are dealing with data collection and analysis. The next KWALON Conference on Qualitative Data Analysis Software aims to organize the reflection on the implications of the recent innovations and trends. Developers and users of software have been invited to reflect on the developments of the past years, and to take them as a starting point for a discussion of the requirements for the future versions of QDA tools. We aim for a fruitful debate between developers and users. Apart from practitioners, trainers, and other end users, participants will include representatives from (in alphabetical order): ATLAS.ti, Cassandre, Dedoose, Feldpartitur, F4 analyse, MAXQDA, NVivo, DiscoverText, QDA Miner and Quirkos.
This article presents a state-of-the-art description of political theory and analyses the role of political theory within the discipline of political science. It starts by describing two dominant approaches within the sub-discipline: conceptual political theory and normative political theory. Secondly, it situates political theory as separated from political science in general and from actual political debates. Thirdly, it analyses the role of methodology in normative political theory. I argue that the most important contribution of political theory to political science in general is its emphasis on the fact that politics is first and foremost a normative endeavor and that any political-scientific analysis should always be aware of this normative character.
