International audience ; It can be said that mathematics education in Japan was started in 1872 when the school system was established. Since that establishment era, controversies have emerged time and again in mathematics education in Japan. Through these controversies, debates have been held on views on mathematics education such as how mathematics ought to be taught and what constitutes knowledge concerning numbers, quantities, and shapes that is desirable for students to acquire. In this paper, I shall look back at how views on mathematics education in Japan have developed since the Meiji era from the perspective of such controversies on mathematics education. As the controversies on mathematics education, the four phases are picked up. The first is Theoretical Mathematics and the Enumeration Principle. The second is Controversy over Formal Building. The third is Conventional Teaching of Mathematics and the Creation of Mathematics. The forth is Relationship between Daily Life and Mathematics. With regard to the conflict between theoretical arithmetic and the enumeration principle, debates were held over which policy to adopt in the process of editing the first government–designated textbook which was published in 1905. The conflict was ultimately settled when it was decided that the enumeration principle would be adopted. Attention must be paid to the fact that this conflict was taking place in an era when it was questioned what constitutes mathematics education in introducing the modern education system in Japan. In the controversy over formal building in 1920's , both the opponents and proponents based their arguments on overseas theories and survey results. The Environmental Education has always aimed to contribute through social and educational way for reflection and resolution of the ecological crisis. However, despite a significant theoretical and practical production, its scope is limited by the political powers. Its gradual transformation into "Education for Sustainable Development" is only a way to recycle the concept of development and evade the critical modes of production and consumption. En outre, même en intégrant la question du « Développement Durable », l'Education à l'environnement devrait garder sa dimension critique en ce qu'elle interroge et aide à (re)construire les rapports des citoyens à leur environnement, dans une perspective de transformation. Ainsi, agir par exemple en pédagogie par projets dans le cadre d'une Education à l'environnement c'est accompagner les citoyens dans l'appropriation et la protection de leur société de manière générale et leur milieu de vie en particulier.

Late Ottoman Bilad al-Sham and Mandate Lebanon were characterized by an exceptionally dense concentration of diverse educational institutions. Research on education in this region during the late 19th and early 20th centuries has hitherto focused on individual institutions or movements. This volume challenges the established narrative and emphasizes the entanglements of individuals, concepts, and practices. Stemming from an international workshop held at the Orient-Institut Beirut in April 2012, the studies on local and foreign schools collected in this volume illuminate the manifold debates that entwined students, teachers, and the public over how to create a modern Arab society and the role education could play within that endeavor.

Emancipation formalized by the US Congress in 1865 after the end of the American Civil War (1861-1865), the country entered a historical era called Reconstruction. In fact, Reconstruction policy implied not only the reconstruction of the Southern States which had been ruined by this civil war, but also the interracial and social integration of the four million new freed people in the US "Melting-Pot". The goal is to train a Senegal citizen rooted in their own culture and open to the rest of the world. Because the pattern of musical education training for teachers is imitating the courses contents left by the French and based mainly on European classical music unknown by the Senegalese. What creates a voltage compared to the popular musical culture of students. In schools, nothing is provided for teaching this subject as for as the resources and educational tools are concerned. Music education teachers are also facing a problem report to the academic knowledge in a society of highly Islamized oral tradition with a caste system, where cultural and religious prejudices about the music. International audience ; Since the 1970s, Tanzania has attracted particular attention from the international donor community. In fact, Tanzania has been the biggest recipient of development assistance in sub-Saharan Africa. Numerous authors and development experts have dealt with this empirical evidence and have shaped Tanzania as a donor darling. However, these research studies lack an analysis of the impact of this specific political economy on the policy process. Undertaking a comparative analysis of two policy fields (higher education and land policies), the aim of this paper is to grasp the effects of transnational stakeholder networks on policy-making. Our assumption is that the synergy between political economy and the policy-making process can only be analyzed through the theoretical lens of state-building. Authors argue that the state actors are generally bypassed in the process of creating higher education (privatization of public universities) and land (land grabbing) policies. However, our empirical results show that policies are negotiated by a variety of public and non-public stakeholders and shaped by its historical path.
