This paper surveys the strategies adopted in England to support the development of teachers' subject knowledge and confidence in relation to teaching Citizenship, which was introduced as a new statutory subject in the National Curriculum in 2002. It reviews examples of good practice and explores how a continuing professional development (CPD) strategy developed at several levels to support teachers and curriculum managers. It outlines the challenges and obstacles in relation to implementing effective Citizenship education in schools. It also underlines the fundamental importance of Citizenship education if young people are to understand and engage with contemporary events in the early Twenty First Century.

Victorian sexuality has often been regarded as the epitome of prudery and chastity, as a reflection of a period which placed great emphasis on the control of sexuality and women's body as way to maintain and ensure social and cultural control. Nonetheless, this modernist conceptualisation was gradually left behind when mid-twentieth century historians and theorists looked back to the past to recover the complexity of a period of contrasts which both preached the ethics of prudery and virtuosity, while the overwhelming increase of population remained a plain fact. The aim of this essay is to reassess assumptions of Victorian sexualities through Annie Besant's works and ideas as regards marriage policies in an attempt to shed light over contemporary Neo-Victorian conceptions of sexualities, thus restoring Besant's position as a canonical figure at the end of nineteenth-century Victorian feminism. ; Resumen: La sexualidad victoriana a menudo ha sido considerada como paradigma de templanza y castidad, como reflejo de un periodo en que se enfatizaba el control de la sexualidad y del cuerpo de la mujer como medio para mantener y asegurar el control social y cultural. Sin embargo, esta conceptualización modernista del periodo victoriano gradualmente se abandonó cuando historiadoras y teóricas de mediados del siglo veinte miraron hacia el pasado con el afán de recuperar la complejidad de un periodo de contrastes que predicaba la ética de la modestia y la virtuosidad, mientras la población aumentaba de forma alarmante. El objetivo de este artículo consiste en revisar las presunciones acerca de las sexualidades victorianas a través de los trabajos y las ideas de Annie Besant acerca de las políticas del matrimonio con el fin de esclarecer concepciones contemporáneas neo-victorianas, restaurando así la posición de Besant como figura canónica dentro del feminismo victoriano de finales de siglo diecinueve.

Luego de una introducción sobre las etapas históricas y características geográficas del archipiélago nipón, Hayes se centra en la etapa de la ocupación y los avatares ocurridos a las instituciones preexistentes, especialmente los zaibatsus, en virtud de la nueva constitución de 1947. Such questions arehere held to touch upon not only the participation of the private sector in the carrying through of publicinitiatives but more so upon the very notion of what the right to land ownership implies, an issue which hasbusied Spanish Town and Country Planning thinking at least ever since the Constitution of 1978 in its 47tharticle recognized the right of the community affected and through its administrative expressions to takeits share of the benefi ts arising from city planning initiatives. The paper further indicates how this matteris approached in England the Low Countries and how this is, in each of these cases in point, different.

The purpose of this paper is twofold. First, by recovering the historical atmosphere in which Locke lived, the aim is to show that his thought was very much influenced by the general context of England during the second half of the seventeenth century. Second, after analyzing the context that shaped his Essay on Tolerance & his Letter on Tolerance, & the main differences between both works, a brief analysis of Locke's complex concept of property in his second Treatise will follow. It will be argued that a different reading of property that takes into account the broader classical meaning of "propriety," which would be consistent with Locke's definition of what he terms by the 'general name' of property ('Lives, Liberties & Estates'), could entail individual liberty in religious matters. If this interpretation is feasible, i.e., if Locke's concept of propriety could comprise freedom of consciousness in religious matters, then Locke's civil society should necessarily entail tolerance. 18 References.
