Wo ist Europa?

Der Autor diskutiert einige Fragen zur geografischen, kulturellen und politischen Standortbestimmung Europas. Er sieht einen engen Zusammenhang zwischen der Konstruktion Europas und der Konstruktion des Orients bzw. des Okzidents in der Geschichte, da beide vor allem eine Idee darstellen, welche auf der Grundlage von Machtverhältnissen und sich wandelnden Dominanzen zu einer Realität geworden ist. Jedoch lässt sich weder mit Blick auf die Traditionen der griechischen und römischen Antike noch entlang religiöser Abgrenzungen ein einheitliches Bild Europas bestimmen. Der Autor beschreibt die politische Hegemonie in Europa, die verschiedenen Definitionen Europas und die möglichen Gründe für das "europäische Chaos", da sich bis in die Gegenwart hinein keine europaweite hegemoniale Macht durchsetzen konnte. Dennoch gilt Europa zunehmend als "Kennzeichen der Welt" und die Globalisierung wird auch als "Europäisierung" verstanden. (ICI)

The publication by the Russian Independent Research Instit for Social & National Problems is engaged in the study of change of attitudes & value orientations in Russia. In Rossija na rubeze vekov ([Russia in the Twentieth Century] 2000) transformation processes, Russian attitudes regarding Germans, youth attitudes, the ideal Russian society, profile of the Russian middle class, & the history of the modern Russians at the end of the 20th century are explored.
