Cette contribution étudie la Maison de l'Histoire Européenne à Bruxelles. Dans une perspective postcoloniale, l'article se concentre sur ce qui est rendu central et ce qui est rendu périphérique par rapport au récit construit par la Maison. Le musée reflète ce que Shore décrit comme l'utilisation contradictoire de la culture dans les discours européens officiels, concevant l'Europe comme une entité culturelle unifiée et comme un espace de diversité (2006). L'article soutient que cette contradiction compromet l'ambition de la Maison de présenter une histoire laissant place aux différentes expériences et histoires vécues et mémorisées en Europe.

Cet article analyse la place de l'histoire en tant que discipline au sein du champ des études européennes en 2015. Il observe d'abord que l'histoire est largement marginalisée dans les débats aussi bien publics qu'universitaires à propos de la situation actuelle de l'Europe, et explore les raisons qui peuvent expliquer cette situation. Il rappelle ensuite l'émergence, au cours des dernières années, d'une historiographie riche et vivante, et soutient que ceci ne laisse aucune excuse aux autres disciplines pour ne pas s'intéresser aux travaux des historiens qui sont d'une pertinence intellectuelle immédiate à leur champ d'enquête.

Issu d'une conférence sur l'importance, dans l'histoire des religions en Europe, des «religions orientales » – une catégorie ambiguë mais pourvue d'un fort potentiel réflexif –, cet article applique une critique désormais bien connue de cette catégorie tout en prenant au sérieux les guillemets dont on l'entoure. Bien que les critiques quant à la nature intéressée du processus de formation des catégories sont aujourd'hui familières, les chercheurs en histoire des religions semblent souvent croire qu'il leur suffit, pour adhérer à ces critiques, d'opérer un simple changement de nom dans la manière de désigner ce qui serait néanmoins un objet stable. Le présent article invite donc ceux qui soutiennent cette perspective à réaliser à quel point procéder à un simple changement de nom a pour effet de naturaliser plutôt que d'historiciser les intérêts de ceux qui ont identifié, et donc constitué le monde dont nous avons aujourd'hui hérité.

Pusat studi tersebut menyusun program studi expansi kolonial, terutama expansi Belanda, dan reaksi- reaksi yang ditimbulkan olehnya, tanpa membatasi diri pada negeri Hindia Belanda. Dalam waktu dekat akan diterbitkan sejumlah sumber- sumber arsip terutama mengenai statistik tentang Suriname dan Taiwan, mengenai pegawai-pegawai negeri dan pegawai VOC danjuga mengenai perjalanan yang telah dilakukan dari Negeri Belanda keAsia pada abad kc XVIII.

This introductory article presents a short overview of the evolution of populism since the late-19th century forms to the most recent Western European formulas. Starting from a short conceptual inquiry, the article provides a precise analytical picture of the different changes in the form and content of populism across time and space. Previously connected with radical right formulas, the article illustrates how different new populist parties have partly embraced a left-wing program such as in the case of Podemos in Spain or La France insoumise in the French case. The last part of the article provides possible scenarios for the future. In particular, despite the recent evolutions in the Austrian, Dutch and French elections, the analysis stresses the fact that the populist mood has progressively influenced traditional politics (i.e. the topic of immigration, the search of charismatic figures, the questioning of representative democracy). The article concludes with an open question about the future of a populist from below.

Résumé Les « années 1970 » sont une période controversée, et ceci pas seulement dans l'histoire de la construction européenne. L'Europe était-elle en crise à l'époque, avec un système politique en stagnation et des projets politiques essentiels en suspens ? Ou était-elle au contraire assez solide pour affronter efficacement les défis de la crise du dollar, des chocs pétroliers et de la « stagflation » ? Quels sont les facteurs (et acteurs) principaux du malaise économique et social de l'époque ? Et quel est leur impact sur la construction européenne entre « La Haye » (1969) et l'Acte unique européen (1985-1987) ? Les historiens subdivisent le temps historique en ères, périodes, époques, selon l'importance relative qu'ils attachent à l'un ou l'autre de ces facteurs. L'article analyse des approches historiographiques sous cet angle et développe une proposition de périodisation de cette période cruciale pour la construction européenne.

There is a tradition of scepticism about the historical value of Javanese chronicles (babad), which has led to a privileging of European sources in the study of Javanese history. This scepticism may rest upon doubt whether the Javanese even have a sense of history.
This paper argues that there is ample evidence in Javanese chronicles of a vibrant sense of the past. It analyses particularly Babad Sangkala. The original version of this work (Leiden cod. or. 4097) seems to have been completed c. 1750 and is shown here to be very accurate in its account of the reign of Pakubuwana II (1726-49). This babad demonstrates that in the mid-eighteenth century there was a Javanese chronicle tradition which assumed that events occurred in a sequence, that they had causes and consequences, that they could be judged and that the past was worth both knowing and recording accurately. This demonstration that Javanese chronicle writers could be concerned to record the past with precision is essential to showing that the Javanese were indubitably people with a sense of history and a capacity to record it. Clearly therefore historians of pre-colonial Java are as much obliged to take Javanese sources seriously as historians of France or Germany are obliged to use French or German sources. The author expresses regret that this seems not yet to be accepted by all scholars of Javanese history.

Representing democracy in the 19th century Romanian political discourse means, first of all, to focus the analysis on the implications the concept of democracy could provide. In the after 1848 revolution period, and especially after 1866, the concept of Romanian democracy and its place within political discourse are conditioned by philosophical and historiographical discontinuities between the periods, the intellectual sources, the political and institutional framework of that time. In those senses, democracy should be regarded as a fundamental concept to political and institutional development in the last three decades of 19th century. The present article goes on this path, analysing some examples of political discourse during the make-up of the fundamental democratic institutions in the Romanian modernity.
