In May of 2019, regular elections for the European Parliament will be held in the European Union. The results of these elections will be seriously affected by the financial, economic and migration crises, the Brexit, the polarization between different regions of the European Union, the growing popularity of Euroskeptical and populist parties. The author analyzes the influence of these factors and makes a forecast of the results of these elections for the leading pan-European parties, including the regional context.Key words: European Union, European elections, European Parliament, Eurosceptic parties, regionalism. ; В мае этого года в Евросоюзе пройдут очередные выборы депутатов Европарламента. На результаты этих выборов серьезное влияние окажут финансово-экономический и миграционный кризисы, Брекзит, поляризация между различными регионами Евросоюза, рост популярности евроскептических и популистских партий. The role of the media during the European election is extremely important as it is the dominant form factor of news and public communication. In this context, both civil society and political actors are the two additional players in the triangle of shaping and influencing communication for social issues. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the agenda and the way in which the news of Greek Cypriot print media was framed. Specifically, this research examines the main topics identified in the printed media during the pre-election period of the European elections in Cyprus in May 2019. Also, this research focuses on how the issues of the news appeared. This research seeks to answer the above questions, thus enriching the research gap found in the existing literature. From a theoretical point of view, this article adopts the theories of the Agenda Setting and Framing, because as interrelated theories they can explain the research theme. In addition, for the purposes of the survey, a mixed methodological approach was applied, with the research adopting quantitative content analysis and framing. Our methodology was based on elements of content quality analysis and aims to analyse the content of the text message, discourse and form and involves five stages: 1. The procedure of compiling the empirical evidence. 2. The isolation of items (units recorded). 3. The classification of units into categories. 4. The quantity conversion and measurement of items (codification). 5. Analysis and interpretation of data. The findings showed that the Media Agenda during the pre-election period included a wide range of topics. The topics that had the highest frequency appearance in the media were the economy, society, and environment issues.

Although we know a lot about why citizens vote or abstain in elections, the social inequality of low turnout in European elections has attracted little attention. This paper focuses on voter turnout in the last 2019 European elections and examines whether low voter turnout in second-order elections is automatically associated with high social inequality, using Tingsten's law as inspiration. By contrasting a second-order election with other high and low turnout elections, the paper deepens our understanding of the mechanisms behind low turnout in European elections. Following the argument that the macrolevel social imbalances of low turnout can best be analysed at the neighbourhood level, we develop a small-scale analysis of turnout across nine capitals of the European Union for the 2019 European Parliament (election and perform a regression model with interaction effects to examine the effects between different types of elections. Our results do not find differences in the effect of neighbourhoods' social context on voter turnout between these elections. Although turnout in all cities is socially biased across all types of elections, jeopardising the ideal of political equality across Europe, we find no evidence that the 2019 European Parliament elections were more socially unequal than other elections – regardless of their second-order nature.

Despite its rather modest number of users, Twitter has gained a certain status as platform for on-time political communication and recent studies have brought evidence, that signicant events tend to produce peaks in Twitter activity. This article focuses on the interaction between Twit-ter and traditional mass media channels (newspapers, magazines, TV) by analysing topics central in Twitter communication on politics. The data-driven analysis presented in the article analyses the structure and dynamics of topics discussed on Twitter during elections. The data used in this article are from two political events, the German Federal Elections 2017 and European elections 2019. Both datasets contain more than one million tweets Empirically, the article seeks to evidence the usefulness of Twitter data when it comes to gain understanding of actual political debates in a society. Methodically, the article seeks to present how data mining, modelling and visualisation tools can be exploited in order to extract scientically relevant, reliable and signicant, and analytically interesting results from a very large dataset to be used to answer questions being relevant for political and social sciences and media studies as well.

Das Euromanifesto Project (EM Project) ist eine von fünf Komponenten der European Election Studies (EES). Das Ziel des Projektes ist es, alle Parteiprogramme zu sammeln, die von politischen Parteien und den europäischen Fraktionen im Vorfeld der Wahlen zum Europäischen Parlament (EP) in allen EU-Mitgliedsländern herausgegeben werden. Der vorliegende Datensatz enthält eine Inhaltsanalyse von 221 Parteiprogrammen für die EP-Wahlen 2019 aus 28 Ländern und den europäischen Fraktionen. Die Kodierung der Parteiprogramme erfolgte durch 27 Codierer aus allen Mitgliedstaaten der Europäischen Union anhand eines hierarchischen Klassifizierungsschemas mit neun Bereichen, die in verschiedene Kategorien und Unterkategorien unterteilt sind.

Die Studie umfasst Parteiprogramme, die vor den Europawahlen 2019 von den Parteien herausgegeben wurden.

Die Wählerstudie 2019 der Europäischen Wahlstudie (EES) ist eine Nachwahlstudie, die in allen 28 EU-Mitgliedstaaten nach den Wahlen zum Europäischen Parlament vom 23. bis 26. Mai 2019 durchgeführt wird. Das Hauptziel der EES-Wählerstudie 2019 ist die Untersuchung der Wahlbeteiligung und des Wahlverhaltens bei den Wahlen zum Europäischen Parlament. Sie befasst sich darüber hinaus auch mit der Entwicklung einer politischen Gemeinschaft in der EU und einer europäischen Öffentlichkeit, mit den Wahrnehmungen und Präferenzen der Bürgerinnen und Bürger in Bezug auf das politische System der EU, mit ihrer Bewertung der politischen Leistung der EU und mit den Folgen des Brexit.

Die Umfrage wurde von Gallup International durchgeführt. Die Datenerhebung wurde größtenteils online durchgeführt. Die Befragten wurden nach dem Zufallsprinzip aus Access-Panel-Datenbanken unter Verwendung von Schichtungsvariablen ausgewählt, mit Ausnahme von Malta und Zypern, wo ein mehrstufiger Random-Digit-Dialing-Ansatz verwendet wurde. In allen Ländern wurden die Stichproben nach Geschlecht, Alter, Region und Art der Ortschaft geschichtet. Der Stichprobenumfang beträgt etwa 1.000 Interviews in jedem EU-Mitgliedstaat (mit Ausnahme von Zypern, Luxemburg und Malta, wo der Stichprobenumfang 500 beträgt). Der Gesamtumfang der Stichprobe beträgt 26.538.

Der Fragebogen umfasst Fragen zum Wahlverhalten, wie z. B. zur Wahlbeteiligung und zur Parteienwahl auf EU- und nationaler Ebene, zu den Parteipräferenzen und zur Neigung, bestimmte Parteien zu unterstützen, zu allgemeinen politischen Einstellungen, zum Interesse an Politik und zu Hintergrundmerkmalen wie Geschlecht, Alter, Bildung und Religion. Zu den Neuerungen der EBS 2019 gehören Fragen zu den Folgen des Brexit und zu liberal-demokratischen Einstellungen.

International audience ; Der Beitrag analysiert die Wahlergebnisse der populistischen Parteien bei den Europa-wahlen 2019 und geht der Frage nach den Hauptfaktoren der populistischen Stimmabgabe nach. Zum einen zeigt sich, dass die populistischen Wähler nicht durchgängig dem Modell der "Globalisierungsverlierer" entsprechen. Zweitens erscheint die populistische Wahl in ein breiteres Gefüge politisch-sozialer Konflikte und Identitäten eingebettet, das bei verschiedenen Trägern des Populismus stark variiert. Opposition gegen die europäische Integration, eine kritische Betrachtung der EU-Demokratie und eine geringe Unterstützung für demokratische Institutionen sind nichtsdestoweniger Gemeinsamkeiten der populistischen Wahl-motivation, unabhängig von der jeweiligen parteipolitischen Verortung. ; This paper looks at the electoral performances of populist parties of the left, right and centre in the 2019 European elections. Using survey data, it examines the main drivers of the populist vote. The paper finds that populist voters do not all fit the so-called 'globalization losers' profile, yet they tend to see themselves as economically disadvantaged and to support economic redistribution. Ideologically, populist voting is embedded in broader sets of socio-political conflicts and identities, which strongly differentiate between different instances of populism. Finally, opposition to European integration, critical views of EU democracy and the lack of support for democratic government are common features of populist voting across the spectrum.
