Anti-fascism makes working or fighting against fscism the top priority, and two basic types of anti-fascism emerged in Europe and North America from 1936 to 1945. The first was revolutionary; the second was conservative and even counterrevolutionary. From the Munich Agreement to the fall of France, and in the face of strong isolationist opposition, US counterrevolutionary anti-fascists—who are usually labeled "interventionists" in the historiography—articulated to an increasingly sympathetic public how fascist regimes jeopardized the United States' national security and way of life.

Having consolidated his power in the late 1920s, Joseph Stalin long focused on internal affairs: the Five Year Plans, collectivization of agriculture, rapid industrialization, and modernization of the Red Army. Despite his penchant for domestic policy, from the summer of 1936 Stalin's Soviet Union was increasingly drawn into foreign affairs. This article explores Stalin's foreign policy on the eve of the Second World War. The Soviet Union's multiple failures in forging an anti-Fascist alliance with Britain and France, most notably in the Spanish Civil War, will be explored as the prelude to Stalin's eventual decision, in August 1939, to authorize the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact.

These two registers are a valuable new source for the economic, linguistic, and transportation history of medieval France, offering a window onto the commercial life of Tarascon, a fortified town on the east bank of the Rhône between Avignon and Arles. William D. Paden discusses the developing fiscal policy of the counts of Provence, for whom the tolls were collected, and the practice and vocabulary of medieval toll-keeping. An afterword considers the toll registers in relation to the poetry of troubadours, arguing that the realism of the registers and the idealism of troubadour poetry overlapped in the world of medieval Tarascon. La legislació en immigració a França en els darrers cinquanta anys palesa una política massa depenent de les diferents conjuntures econòmiques i, per tant, utilitarista. El control dels fluxos migratoris i la lluita contra la immigració clandestina són, tanmateix, un objectiu comú tant de governs de dretes com d'esquerres, amb una política de fons que presenta certes incoherències. Davant d'aquest escenari polític, quina és la tasca dels agents socials? Els treballadors socials que treballen en contextos culturalment heterogenis es troben sovint entre les normes jurídiques i les normes socials. Quins ponts han de bastir? Fins a on poden negociar? Aquest article esbossa algunes respostes a aquestes qüestions tot fent un repàs cronològic a la història de la immigració a França en els últims anys. ; Immigration legislation in France in the last fifty years reflects a policy that is over-dependent on changing economic circumstances and therefore utilitarian. The control of migratory flows and combating illegal immigration are, however, priority objectives for governments of both right and left, with an underlying policy that presents certain inconsistencies. Given this political scenario, what is the role of the social agents? Social workers working in culturally heterogeneous contexts often find themselves in the limbo between the letter of the law and social norms. What bridges should they build? How far can they negotiate? La indemnització dels perjudicats utilitzant els recursos de la propia Corona catalanoaragonesa. ; [EN] This paper has as its aim the study of the different systems used in the XIII and XIV centuries by the Catalano- Aragonese sovereigns to avoid the dreaded letters of warrant or reprisal issued by the governments of various nations. These were granted to one of their subjects to allow him to confiscate property belonging to the citizens from the foreign state which had suffered the wrong. The Catalano- Aragonese sovereigns tried to avoid the letters of warrant decreed against the Crown of Aragon by the kings of France. They used three ways to achieve this: 1. By diplomatic negotiations with the French Court. 2. By the institution of a tax on the merchandise, with which they could compensate those who had been wronged. 3. Aquesta és la principal pregunta d'una tesi doctoral que ha analitzat les pràctiques estratègiques i de seguretat de determinats actors amb capacitat regional, com són la UE i l'OTAN, així com França, Regne Unit, Espanya, Itàlia i Alemanya, i ha explicat de quina manera el sistema europeu de seguretat ha evolucionat al començament d'aquest segle en relació a amenaces terroristes. ; ¿Se puede caracterizar la Unión Europea como un complejo de seguridad regional en relación a las amenazas del terrorismo islamista y a las armas de destrucción masiva? Ésta es la principal pregunta de una tesis doctoral que ha analizado las prácticas estratégicas y de seguridad de determinados actores con capacidad regional, como son la UE y la OTAN, así como Francia, Reino Unido, España, Italia y Alemania, y ha explicado de qué manera el sistema europeo de seguridad ha evolucionado al principio de este siglo en relación a amenazas terroristas. ; Can we characterise the European Union as a regional security complex in relation to the threats of Islamic terrorism and weapons of mass destruction? This is the main question of a doctoral thesis which has analysed the strategic and security practices of certain actors with regional capacity, such as the EU and NATO, as well as France, UK, Spain, Italy and Germany, and has explained how the European security system has evolved since the beginning of this century in relation to terrorist threats.
