An zwei Terminen, im Juli und im Dezember 1778, veröffentlichte Francisco Goya in Madrid insgesamt elf Radierungen, die er nach Gemälden Diego Velázquez' geschaffen hatte. Von noch einmal so vielen Gemälden wissen wir, dass er sie in irgendeiner Form "kopierte". Jedoch hat er selbst von diesen keine mehr veröffentlicht. Unsere Kenntnis des Konvoluts setzt sich aus Zeichnungen (in Graphit, Rötel, Kreide und Tusche), Druckplatten, Probedrucken, Editionen und Gemälden zusammen, die alle deutlich den Bezug zu Velázquez herstellen, in vielen Drucken und einigen Zeichnungen sogar ausdrücklich formuliert. Da aber nicht alle Zeichnungen radiert wurden und nicht alle Zeichnungen zu den vorhandenen Radierungen bekannt sind, Druckplatten nicht erhalten blieben oder Quetschfalten im Papier lediglich auf ihre Existenz schließen lassen, darüber hinaus in zwei Fällen neben den Radierungen auch Gemälde ausgeführt worden sind und eine Arbeit ausschließlich als Gemälde existiert, ist die Lage etwas unübersichtlich und hinterlässt in der Forschung immer wieder differierende Angaben. Die vorliegende Arbeit führt in ihrem Katalog erstmals alle bekannten Arbeiten Goyas (inklusive der ihm ehemals zugeschriebenen) nach Velázquez zusammen, und zwar in der Reihenfolge, die das Konvolut selbst nahe legt und in einer Struktur, die all die unterschiedlichen Techniken und Darstellungsmittel berücksichtigt. Dabei orientiert sie sich am Arbeitsablauf des Künstlers: Skizze, Vorzeichnung, Reinzeichnung (oder Nachzeichnung); Druckplatte; Probedrucke je nach Ätzung und/oder Bezeichnung; Edition; im Anschluss die Gemälde. Der Aufbau wurde zudem so organisiert, dass künftige Entdeckungen ohne Schwierigkeiten integriert werden können. Die Zeichnungen, Radierungen und Gemälde Goyas nach Velázquez werden im Einzelnen diskutiert und es wird herausgearbeitet, nach welcher Systematik Goya Veränderungen vornimmt und wie er seine Gesamtintention in konsequenter wie vielfältiger Weise umsetzt. Am auffälligsten dabei ist die Herauslösung der Figuren aus dem 'alten' Kompositionssystem und ihre Neuinszenierung als primär auf sich selbst bezogene Figuren. Mit der Verminderung des aristokratischen Ambientes einerseits und der Erhöhung der Ausdrucksstärke bei Bürgern und Bauern andererseits überführt er die 'alten' Arbeiten in die Aktualität des 18. Jahrhunderts. Seit dem 17. Jahrhundert eines Velázquez hatte sich der kulturelle und politische Hintergrund spürbar gewandelt. Wenn auch die grundlegende Ordnung der Monarchie und der Gesellschaftsstruktur noch bleibt, innerhalb dieser vollziehen sich Veränderungen, die insgesamt auf ein Weniger an Status und ein Mehr an Person ausgerichtet sind. Das Ansehen, dass Spanien, das Land ,hinter den Pyrenäen' vor allem in kultureller Hinsicht in Europa genoss, beschrieben in Reiseberichten, diplomatischen Kontakten und, wenig später (1782/83), laut geäußert in der Encyclopédie méthodique, war dürftig. Wenige kannten das Land, noch weniger die königliche Gemäldesammlung. Engagierte Intellektuelle wie Antonio Ponz und Anton Raphael Mengs formulierten Mitte der 1770er Jahre Aufrufe, die unbekannten und verborgenen Schätze des künstlerischen Erbes Spaniens zu publizieren und öffentlich zugänglich zu machen. Zu diesem Zweck wurde noch 1789 eigens für die Gemälde aus den königlichen Palästen die private "Compañía para el grabado de los cuadros de los Reales Palacios" gegründet. Letztlich zeigt die Rezeptionsgeschichte der Arbeiten, die jede vorstellbare Sicht auf Goyas Arbeiten bereit hält, dass sie nur wenig zu einem neuen Bild Spaniens beitragen konnten. Untersuchungen der Auswirkungen auf sein eigenes späteres Werk sind viel deutlicher und schließen die Studie ab. ; In July and December of 1778, Francisco Goya published eleven prints, which he created after paintings by Velázquez. He "copied" another eleven paintings without publishing them. There are drawings in black lead, red chalk, chalk and ink, plates, trial proofs, printed editions and paintings, which are all closely related to paintings by Velázquez. This catalogue brings them all (including formerly attributed drawings) together, following methodically the artist's working process: sketches, drawings, preparatory drawings, copies (?); the plates; trial proofs; editions; paintings. It has been organised being able to easily incorporate future discoveries. The drawings, prints and paintings after Velázquez are discussed closely, the principles of the changes he made and to which extent he followed clearly his intentions is being carved out. Most demonstrative is the way, how the figures are disembedded out of their "old" setting and becoming characters basically referring to themselves, leaving behind any old kind of "superstructure". Reducing the aristocratic ambience and intensifying the personal profiles of peasants, citizens and even the aristocrats themselves, Goya transfers the "old works of art" to the up-to-dateness of the 18th century. He shows how the cultural and political setting had been changed since the 17th century, though the basic system of the monarchy remained. Furthermore, this series of "copies" stands as well in a national context: Spain had a very poor reputation in Europe, especially regarding cultural matters. This was reported by travellers and diplomatic agents, and could also be read in the article on Spain published in France still a couple of years later, in 1782/83, within the Encyclopédie méthodique. Very few people knew Spain, and even less knew the Royal Collections of paintings. Highly engaged intellectuals like Antonio Ponz and Anton Raphael Mengs appealed yet in the 1770ies to publish the unknown and hidden treasures of Spain. For this purpose focussing on the paintings belonging to the Court, a private association, the "Compañía para el grabado de los cuadros de los Reales Palacios", was founded in 1789. Though there seems not to have been any commissioner, Goya's works could have met perfectly those demands. But the early as well as the later acceptance of Goya's prints show the complete range of possible estimations, making clear that they barely contributed to a change of Spain's image in Europe. The effects they had on his own later works are far more explicit, and complete this study on the first of Goya's printed series.

Para la realización de este trabajo nos situamos ante uno de los temas más viscerales y turbadores planteados desde la antigüedad: el monstruo. Analizaremos este concepto haciendo un recorrido a través de su representación en el terreno humanístico. Lo monstruoso se ha abordado a lo largo de la historia como algo que sobrepasa los límites de lo bello y lo feo, pero este concepto sufre un importante giro dentro del panorama contemporáneo, mostrando otra proyección del mismo que pasa a relacionarse con problemáticas tan complejas como la identidad, el dolor, la obsesión, o con ámbitos tan amplios como lo social, lo moral y la política. Para ello profundizaremos en la obra de Francisco de Goya, Antonio Saura y los hermanos Chapman, valorando la importancia y el compromiso con el que se han acercado a la materia. ; For the accomplishment of this work we place in front of one of the most visceral and disturbing topics set from the antiquity: the monster. We will analyze this concept doing a tour through his representation in the humanistic area. The monstrous thing has been approached along the history as something that exceeds the limits of the beautiful thing and the ugly thing, but this concept suffers an important draft inside the contemporary panorama, showing another projection of the same one that passes to relate with problematic so complex as the identity, the pain, the obsession, or with areas as wide as the social thing, the moral thing and the politics. Résumé Le peintre espagnol Francisco de Goya y Lucientes et l'écrivain américain Ernest Hemingway comptent sans doute parmi les plus célèbres aficionados . Le premier a marqué l'histoire de la représentation artistique de la tauromachie, notamment avec sa série de gravures intitulée Tauromaquia , éditée en 1816. Le second est l'auteur d'un ouvrage paru en 1932, Mort dans l'après-midi , indispensable à quiconque s'intéresse aux courses de taureaux. Cette courte étude souhaite montrer comment, malgré une différence d'époque et de support, les deux hommes tendent à proposer une approche analogue de la corrida, tant sur le plan esthétique qu'éthique. Elle vise également à appréhender la façon dont près d'un siècle plus tard, Ernest Hemingway a pu se retrouver et puiser dans l'héritage laissé par Goya, faisant ainsi écho au peintre dans sa conception et sa représentation de la tauromachie.

In this essay, I examine Los Caprichos, a series of engravings by the late-18th century Spanish Romantic artist Francisco de Goya. By focusing mainly on Plate 66 from the series, Allá vá eso, I examine the ways in which Goya's creation reflects the social, political, and moral tides of the period. Beginning with an extensive formal analysis, I explore how the work's supernatural figures and overarching demonic theme are representative of the dark and twisted artistic methods which Goya often employed in his works. Furthermore, I evaluate Allá vá eso in the context of somatic deformation, a term set forth by Andrew Schulz in his publication, Goya's Caprichos: Aesthetics, Perception, and the Body. The term means "distortion of the body," and I argue its prevalence in Goya's artistic technique. Moreover, I explore the social implications of the Enlightenment on 18th century Spain; specifically, its production of a heightened interest in rationality and the natural world. I argue that Allá vá eso, when viewed in this context, provides a fantastical narrative that critiques humanity's reliance on faith and religion as it appeared in daily life and in art produced prior to Goya's time.

This paper presents the GOYA Project, a teleoperated system for blasting applied to hull cleaning in ship maintenance. The objective of the project is to develop a reliable and cost effective technology regarding hull grit blasting, obtaining a high quality surface preparation together with a dramatic reduction of waste and zero emissions to environment. Present technology for hull cleaning and the problematic in shipbuilding industry are analysed. Selection of blasting technologies and materials is also approached in this paper, showing the different tests carried out to achieve a hull surface cleanliness of SA 2 ½. The desing of the robot is also presented, showing aspects of mechanical, control unit, teleoperation system and blasting head design. It also shows the consecution of a smooth hull surface and the reduction of operation costs atmospheric contamination. It also eliminates the hard working conditions of the operators in the present manual operation. The ideas of the Enlightenment (first of all the French, with the most famous of its representatives – Jean-Jacques Rousseau, Charles-Louis de Secondat, Baron de La Brède et de Montesquieu and François-Marie Arouet Voltaire) not only influenced the political sphere of the Eighteenth century but also art. Francisco José de Goya y Lucientes (1746-1828) was directly convinced by these ideas: he took a passive part in the Napoleonic wars and was a friend of the prominent representatives of the Spanish Enlightenment.The study aims at analyzing interactions between text and image in the series of etchings of F. Goya "The Disasters of War" and the reception of the idea of «common good» in the etching 71 "Against the common good".We havechosen several theoretical and methodological tools to deal with narrative and visual sources. Hermeneutics and semiotics belong to the specific methods used in the process of analysis of engravings. Comprehensive approach is determined by the usage of F. Goya both extraverbial and verbal (double numbers of etchings and artionims, ekfrasis) means. The methodological basis of the study is made up wit the principles of complexity, historicism and scientific character. The main methods were iconographic and iconological; empirical, prosopographical, method of synthetic and analytical source criticism; comparative-historical analysis. Probably, Francisco Goya, who also criticized the contemporary obscurantism in Spain (which is especially reflected in the series of etchings "Los Caprichos"), turned to the ideas of the French enlightenment, which gave rise to possibly unconscious reminiscences and allusions in his work. Thus, we are interested mainly how Goya indirectly or even unconsciously borrowed ideas from the Enlightenment movement, which spread rapidly all over Europe. In this case studying direct borrowings from J.-J. Rousseau's ideas played only minor role. ; Ідеї Просвітництва (передовсім французького з найвідомішими його представниками - Ж.-Ж. Руссо, Ш.-Л. Монтеск'є та М. Ф. А. Вольтером) не лише запліднили політичну сферу тогочасного світу але й знайшли своє відображення та взаємодію в мистецтві. Франсіско Хосе де Гойя-і-Лусьєнтес (1746-1828 рр.) був безпосередньо перечулений цими ідеями: він брав пасивну участь у наполеонівських війнах і безпосередньо перебував у колі спілкування з видатними представниками іспанського Просвітництва. Метою дослідження є аналіз взаємодію тексту й образу в серії офортів Ф. Гойї "Лихоліття війни" та з'ясувати рецепцію ідеї "загального блага" в офорті 71 "Проти загального блага". Теоретико-методологічний інструментарій, необхiдний для дослідження цієї теми, пов'язаний як із специфікою роботи з наративним родом писемного типу джерел, так і зображальним (візуальним) типом джерел. Комплексний підхід зумовлений використанням Ф. Гойєю як позавербальних, так і вербальних (подвійні номери офортів та артионіми, екфразиси) засобів. Методологічну основу дослідження складають принципи комплексності, історизму та науковості. Основними методами стали: іконографічний та іконологічний; емпіричний; просопографічний; метод синтетичної та аналітичної джерелознавчої критики; порівняльно-історичний. Вірогідно, Франсіско Гойя, який так само критикував тогочасний обскурантизм в Іспанії (що особливо віддзеркалюється в серії офортів «Капрічос»), звертався до ідей французького просвітництва, що породило, можливо, й несвідомі ремінісценції та алюзії в його роботах. Таким чином, питання обізнаності Франсіско Гойї з ідеями Ж.-Ж. Руссо не відіграє ключової ролі в даній проблемі (хоча й і є вкрай цікавою темою для дослідження), адже найціннішим аспектом для нас залишається не прямі запозичення в автора, а саме експлікація просвітницьких ідей (у нашому випадку – в мистецтві), що контекстуально свідчить про їх стрімке поширення в Європі та активне впровадження в різномані сфери людської діяльності.

Since the beginning of the 20th Century, film production joined arts and literature in order to keep alive the myth of the 'Spanish War of Independence', as it is called in Spain the Peninsular War. The heroic struggle of the people against a powerful empire is the main topic of more than fifty movies. These films also reflect the political situation and the prevailing mentality of the time of its production, providing a reference to the society that stares at them. In those movies the main characters, who achieved the heroic deed, are highly enhanced: the people of Madrid, Agustina de Aragón and the guerrilla. Besides, cinema also explored the painter Francisco Goya, an universal character. His works denounced the human nature extremes and the horrors of war. Thus, Goya is presented as a collective referent to explain the restlessness and duality of such a critical period. ; En los albores del siglo XX, el cine se suma a las artes y la literatura para mantener vivo el mito de la guerra de la Independencia. La lucha heroica de un pueblo frente a un imperio poderoso es un tema abordado en más de cincuenta películas. Estos filmes también reflejan la situación política y la mentalidad dominante de la época de su realización, sirviendo de referente para la sociedad que las contempla. En ellas se ensalza a los protagonistas que hicieron posible la gesta: los madrileños, Agustina de Aragón y la guerrilla. Además, el cine explora a un personaje universal, Goya, cuya paleta ha denunciado los extremos de la naturaleza humana y el horror de la guerra, siendo retratado como un referente colectivo que explica el desasosiego y la dualidad de un periodo tan convulso.

Frente a una representación idealizada de la guerra, el artista Francisco de Goya la presenta como una tragedia desnuda de artificio. Seres anónimos, civiles y militares, sufren y se embrutecen. Sus protagonistas son representados como seres reales, no como héroes. En contraposición se muestran bellas batallas, donde todo es sublime y hermoso. La escenografía del cuadro ilumina a los héroes en forma de victoria alada, incluso disfrazados de generales. Goya también se vale del disfraz y la máscara en algunos de sus retratos, pero precisamente para poner de manifiesto una farsa. Como epílogo, dos obras de artistas contemporáneos que redundan en los argumentos visuales desmitificadores que empleó Goya, con lo que se refuerza la idea de su lucidez y pertinencia actual. ; Faced with an idealized depiction of the War, Goya presents it as a tragedy without artifice. Anonymous people, civilians and military, suffer and become brutalized. Its protagonists are depicted as real beings, not like heroes. In contrast, beautiful battles are shown, where everything is sublime and beautiful. Their heroes are illuminated by scenery in the form of a sort of winged victory, even disguised as generals. Goya uses also costume and mask in some of his portraits but just because to unveil a farce. As an epilogue, two works of contemporary artists are related to the demystifying version of Goya's visual arguments, thereby highlighting his lucidity and current relevance. ; Facultad de Artes
