Im Spannungsverhältnis zwischen preußischem Dreiklassenwahlrecht und demokratischem Reichstagswahlrecht entwickelte sich ab 1867 eine Wahlkampfkultur, in der die Zeitungen als Massenmedium nicht nur über das Werben der Parteien berichteten, sondern selbst eine aktive Rolle im Kampf um die Stimmen der Wähler einnahmen. In der preußischen Provinz Schleswig-Holstein besaßen die Wahlkämpfe dabei durch den deutsch-dänischen Nationalitätenstreit eine ganz besondere Brisanz. Trotzdem gilt die schleswig-holsteinische Presse- und Wahlgeschichte des 19. Jahrhunderts als bisher kaum erforscht. Die vorliegende Studie nimmt sich dieser Forschungslücke an und verknüpft erstmals beide Themenbereiche. Anhand der Wahlberichterstattung der auflagestärksten Zeitungen zeichnet sie ein lebendiges Bild der damaligen Presselandschaft und zeigt, wie die Zeitungsredaktionen aufs Engste mit den politischen Schaltzentralen verknüpft waren und mit ihren Berichten die Wahlkämpfe massiv beeinflussten

A popular genre in the societies that emerged from the Late Antique oecumene, Mirrors for Princes are considered here, for the first time, as a transcultural phenomenon that challenges the dichotomy of the Orient and the Occident. The essence of the Sino-German higher technical education exchange from 1921 to 1941 was that, in the absence of qualitatively sufficient higher technical education, China "borrowed" German educational institutions to train high-level specialists for its industrialization. In the "educational borrowing", the "home country" usually takes the initiative to learn from the "target country". However, under certain circumstances, the "target country" would also actively export educational practices to the "home country". In this case, both China as the "home country" and Germany as the "target country" promoted their education exchanges to produce positive effects for both sides.

This book attempts to determine the degree to which the modern fate of the Western legal tradition depends on one of the most long-standing debates of the Middle Ages, the distinction between potentia Dei absoluta and ordinata (God's absolute and ordered power). The mediaeval investigation into God's attributes was originally concerned with the problem of divine almightiness but underwent a slow but steady displacement from the territory of theology to the freshly emerging proceedings of legal analysis. Here, based on the distinction, late-mediaeval lawyers worked out a new terminology to define the extent of the power-holder's authority. This effort would give rise, during the early modern era, to the gradual establishment of the legal-political framework represented by the concepts of the prince and sovereignty

Von 1998 bis 2011 konnte der sogenannte Nationalsozialistische Untergrund (NSU) unentdeckt zehn Menschen kaltblütig ermorden, Sprengstoffanschläge durchführen sowie Raubüberfälle begehen. Deutsche Sicherheitsbehörden erwiesen sich als unfähig oder nicht willens, zur Beendigung der Mordserie und Aufklärung der Taten beizutragen. Mit ihrem Verhalten haben sich insbesondere die parlamentarischen NSU-Untersuchungsausschüsse in Bund und Ländern beschäftigt. Deren Möglichkeiten und Grenzen untersucht Maximilian Pichls in seiner kritisch-deskriptiv vorgehenden Studie. Er zeigt, auf welche Art und Weise die Aufklärung der NSU-Mordserie in großen Teilen auch an der Sabotage der Sicherheitsbehörden gescheitert ist. Für die diesem Buch zugrunde liegende Dissertation erhielt Maximilian den Walter-Kolb-Gedächtnispreis.

Erst über medientechnologische Aufzeichnungen von Sprache, Klängen und Musik oder durch physikalische Messungen von Schallstärken ließen sich Geräuschkulissen bestimmen. Heiner Stahls geschichtswissenschaftliche Studie zeigt, dass es dennoch geht. Sie untersucht die Tonspuren der Geräusche für den Zeitraum zwischen 1880 und 1960, die in historischen Dokumenten enthalten waren und sind. Das umfasst Entscheidungen von Gerichten, Gutachten von Gewerbeinspektoren und Polizeibehörden, Einschätzungen von Stadtärzten und Gesundheitsämtern und Beschwerden von Bürgerinnen und Bürgern. Soziale Akustik setzt sich aus Beständen von Hörwissen zusammen, die miteinander um Bezeichnungsmacht ringen. Das zeigt sich an Immissionskonflikten um Geräusche, die in den Phonotopen Fabrik, Wohnen, Verkehr, Kundgebung und Luftraum auftraten. Sie verhandelt die Selbstverständnisse, kulturellen Überlieferungen und Raumordnungen von Geräuschen.
