Abstract. This article aims to answer the research question
of whether a relationship exists between migration
and jihadi terrorism in Europe. The core argument is
that increased migration from mainly Muslim countries
has added to the risk of jihadi terrorism in European
countries. The phenomena of homegrown extremism
within immigrant communities, the cross-border movement
of radicalised individuals, and the return of foreign
fighters have all raised the likelihood of Islamic
terrorism in Europe. The research results suggest that
while migrants coming from terrorist-prone states are
an important vehicle through which terrorism is manifested
and diffused, there is an even bigger threat of
jihadi terrorism from radicalised individuals within
European immigrant communities.

Reprint of the original Latin text Tentamina semiologica, sive quaedam generalem theoriam signorum spectantia (1789), edited, translated and with an Introduction by Robert E. Innis The 33 sections of this classic text by Hoffbauer have a twofold focus: a descriptive inventory of signs, and a comparison of the expressive and cognitive powers of different sign systems. Using his sign typology as a point of departure, Hoffbauer inquires into the elements of matter and form both necessary and adequate to arrive at a definition of the sign. His purpose in doing so is to present his own version of a general sign theory after pointing out significant errors and weaknesses in the characteristicae universalis of Leibniz, Becher, Toennis, Kalmar, etc. Against the background of criticism of the contemporary deductive sign theories of Lambert, Baumgarten, Mendelssohn, Daries, Wilkins, Kircher and others, Hoffbauer's general semiology gives shape to an outline of a deductive-hypothetical theory of signs. In this historical perspective, Hoffbauer's semiology is of outstanding importance and provides the opportunity to think through once again central and permanent problems of the general science of signs.
In: Collected works of Bernard Lonergan v. 25
In the mid- to late-1930s, while he was a student at the Gregorian University in Rome, Bernard Lonergan wrote a series of eight essays on the philosophy and theology of history. These essays foreshadow a number of the major themes in his life's work. The significance of these essays is enormous, not only for an understanding of the later trajectory of Lonergan's own work but also for the development of a contemporary systematic theology. In an important entry from 1965 in his archival papers, Lonergan wrote that the "mediated object" of systematics is Geschichte or the history that is lived and written about. In the same entry, he stated that the "doctrines" that this systematic theology would attempt to understand are focused on "redemption." The seeds of such a theology are planted in the current volume, where the formulae that are so pronounced in his later work first appear. Students of Lonergan's work will find their understanding of his philosophy profoundly affected by the essays in this volume
Guter Rath an die Völker Europens bei der Nothwendigkeit, die Regierungsgrundsätze überall zu verändern (Londyn, 1792) - niemieckojezyczny przekład pierwszej części eseju politycznego Advice to the Privileged Orders in the Several States of Europe Resulting from the Necessity and Propriety of a General Revolution in the Principle of Government, którego autorem jest amerykański pisarz, poeta, publicysta, prawnik, dyplomata i myśliciel Joel Barlow (1754-1812). Joel Barlow to jeden z twórców amerykańskiej poezji. Już w roku ukończenia Yale opublikował swój pierwszy poemat "The Prospect of Peace", w którym piętnował niewolnictwo. Z kolei w wydanym w 1787 roku dziewięciotomowym poemacie alegorycznym "The Vision of Columbus" wieszczył wizję przyszłej wielkiej Ameryki i ogólnoludzkiego braterstwa. W 1788 roku wybrał się do Francji, gdzie żywo zainteresował się ideami republikańskimi, by w rezultacie wziąć udział w Rewolucji Francuskiej. W 1791, za pośrednictwem Louisa Littepage'a, skierował list do Stanisława Augusta Poniatowskiego. W korespondencji tej chwalił dzieło Konstytucji 3 maja i wspominał udział Tadeusza Kościuszki w wojnie o niepodległość Stanów Zjednoczonych. W 1792 roku, z inspiracji swojego przyjaciela Thomasa Paine'a, napisał i opublikował w Anglii niniejszy, radykalny traktat polityczny Advice to the Privileged Orders in the Several States of Europe…( Przestroga ku rozwadze stanom uprzywilejowanym w różnych krajach europejskich…), w którym rozwija tezę, że zadaniem państwa jest strzeżenie dobra wspólnego wszystkich klas społecznych, a nie jedynie klas uprzywilejowanych. Konserwatywna Anglia nie była zadowolona z takich publikacji. Esej został uznany przez rząd brytyjski za dzieło wywrotowe i objęto go zakazem publikacji. W 1793 roku ukazał się w New York Magazine utwór The Hasty-Pudding. A poem in three cantos, do dzisiaj jeden z najbardziej znanych utworów wczesnej poezji amerykańskiej.
