"Two Medieval Toll Registers from Tarascon presents an edition, translation, and discussion of two vernacular toll registers from fourteenth and fifteenth-century Provence. These two registers are a valuable new source for the economic, linguistic, and transportation history of medieval France, offering a window onto the commercial life of Tarascon, a fortified town on the east bank of the Rhône between Avignon and Arles. William D. Paden discusses the developing fiscal policy of the counts of Provence, for whom the tolls were collected, and the practice and vocabulary of medieval toll-keeping. An afterword considers the toll registers in relation to the poetry of troubadours, arguing that the realism of the registers and the idealism of troubadour poetry overlapped in the world of medieval Tarascon. Hence, it is difficult to identify which countriy such as Turkey, Egypt, Sudan, Morocco, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Algeria, and Indonesia, that deserves to be a representation of an Islamic state. The consequence of different understandings about the relationship between Islam and politics – in the case in Indonesia- is the emergence of Indonesian Islamic State (NII). This movement attracted a number of responses from Indonesian Muslim intellectuals. Using a sociohistorical-politics approach in discussing these responses as they do not agree about the establishment of the NII, will lead to an understanding of coercion and oppression of understanding group that is different from other groups. ; Problems arising from the relationship between Islam (dîn) and politics (siyâsah) became the polemics among Muslim political thinkers that have not been completely solved up until now. Sugar industry in Indonesia has been experiencing rapid growth in local consumption, a decrease in domestic production, an increasingly growing import dependency, and a rise in the cost of energy use. This study explores the efficiency of energy use in the Indonesian sugar industry from 2010 to 2014 by applying the input distance function based on the trans-log model to all sugar mills across the country. The results revealed that substantial differences in energy efficiency exist across the provinces. The average energy efficiency is nearly 0.68, with the most efficient regions reaching nearly 0.77 and the lowest ones scoring about 0.62. The sugar mills in the provinces of Gorontalo, Banten, South Sulawesi, and East Java are more efficient than those of other provinces. The energy efficiency function suggested that increasing production volume can help to achieve more efficient energy use. Additionally, as labor and capital are substitute inputs, improvements in capital investment (technological upgrade) may yield larger outputs and contribute to more energy-efficient production. Meanwhile, raw materials and capital are complementary inputs, so improvements in energy efficiency via a larger mill size, bigger capital investment, and more efficient sourcing of raw materials can support the national government's production targets sustainably.
