The author also notes that the V. N. KarazinKharkiv National University became the first educational and scientific center in Ukraine, where after the Second World War the revival and development of various Oriental disciplines begun, started back in Tsarist time. The leading role in this belonged to the outstanding Ukrainian Arabist, professor A. P. Kovalevsky. He actively advocated the need to return to classical oriental studies, was opposed to the politicization of Orientalism, its regulation, the allocation of conjuncture trends and themes. Thanks to the efforts of A. P. Kovalevsky, at the history department of the university, where the scientist first headed the department of new and recent history, and then he founded the department of history of the Middle Ages, in the 50-60s of the twentieth century, Arabic, Indology, Sinology, Turkic and Japanese studies took place. Specialists also appeared who mastered Arabic, Hindi, Chinese, Turkish, and Japanese. They defended their dissertations on oriental themes, which were based on original oriental sources. Apart from Yu. G. Lytvynenko, the well-known arabist V. M. Beylis, the leading turkologist of Ukraine I. F. Chernikov, the sinologist B. V. Vetrov, the Japanese historian Ya. A. Pobelensky, the Africanist B. G. Pilverman and others. All of them made a significant contribution to the formation and development of Ukrainian national Orientalism. Keywords: Yu. G.
