This paper examines the role that human capital plays in the relationship between the industrialization process and growth in Nigeria spanning the period 1980 to 2016. The theoretical framework is rooted in one of the new growth theories traceable to Lucas (1988) with emphasis on human capital's role in growth. Through some modifications, we result in two simultaneous equation models, one with growth as a dependent variable and the other, industrialization as a dependent variable. Human capital is disaggregated into male and female literacy rates, male and female life expectancies and other control variables used to explain the growth and industrialization process. The Two-Stage Least Squares adopted gives the expected outcome in most cases for the two model estimations. It is shown that the industrialization process is germane for economic growth, and likewise, male literacy rates can complement the industrial process to improve growth. In the same vein, stable growth facilitates the process of industrialization while human capital variables too play a relevant role in the same process. Identification of the workings of the Nigerian state would be a good foundation for the step towards ameliorating the problems of capacity building and industrialization in Nigeria.

The purpose of this essay is to analyze the impact of foreign trade upon the state and civil society in the first decades of Mexican independence. It will focus both on socioeconomic and political aspects of that impact. First, it examines the foreign trade at the end of the colonial period and the first decades of independence by reviewing available data. Second, it gives a brief description of some of the most outstanding consequences of this trade in respect to distribution of the imported goods, and unemployment related to the overflow of foreign products, especially textiles. Third, the essay outlines two types of state reaction: a more defensive reaction, pointing out certain aspects of fiscal and customs policy concerning foreign trade (protective tariffs); and a more offensive reaction by the state which promoted industrialization in order to become more independent from imports. This last aspect of industrialization, however, is discussed only in terms of foreign contribution (import of machinery, skilled workers/technicians, investment of "foreign" capital) to the process of modernization. Finally, the essay concludes by trying to provide an answer to the question of why the early attempts at industrialization failed.
Nowadays, reindustrializing means to take advantage and defend a given territory intemal resources without following the market logic; thus, it is necessary to have an efficient and structural capacity as well as innovative ideas because they are the key factor in competition among territories. The big company is not the symbol of employment supply anymore, making way for the small and medium-sized business. Nevertheless, the former still counts on its economic power and technological means. In order to try to get a territorial quality through local development, we have to take into account some premises, indicators and proposals of performance, which are able to revolutionise territories society.

The city of Mexicali in the north west of Mexico undertook sizeable changes and transformation on its urban image and architecture in only three decades since its foundation in 1903. This was mainly driven by the construction of important government and social buildings constructed with reinforced concrete. The location of the city on the northern border of Mexico allowed the participation of American architects and contractors, facilitating the development of the city by building public buildings, schools, commercial and services facilities to accomplish its new functions as the capital city of Baja California (designated the capital of Baja California in 1915). This phenomenon exposes a chapter of the history of Mexican history that is not widely documented. This article intends to analyze the educational policies organized by the liberal governments in Colombia between 1930 and 1946, articulated to the Latin American conjuncture in which it was advocated for the industrialization of its nations. For this purpose, the measures that aspired to the renewal of the national educational system are discussed, facing this continental trend, in its ideological, political, economic and social aspects, in order to identify some of its main effects and results in the areas of Normalistic, Primary, Middle, Technical and Industrial education. From the Historical Research method and the analysis of Primary Sources supported in Reports of Ministers of Education, of Directors of Public Instruction, of Educational Laws and Censuses of the time, it is shown that the resulting balance was not totally consistent with the speeches and purposes that were proclaimed, thus revealing important contradictions with the modernizing policies that were introduced, given the precarious financial support they received from the central government as a whole.

; In the period from 1868 to 1876, after the approval of the Constitution, a complex process of political and legislative construction of the liberal State took place in Spain, which represented the definitive disappearance of the "Ancien Régime", the advent of capitalist society, and above all, the transformation of Spanish and Biscay society. This new formal context facilitates the development and consolidation of the Industrial Revolution in Biscay (Basque Country, Spain) during the last three decades of the nineteenth century. This article interprets this change in the mode of production from a legal perspective and seeks a first analysis of the emergence of the new Biscay bourgeoisie within the system of client networks proposed by the Monarchist Restoration.

; This article discusses the role of the state in promoting industrialization processes in rural areas. It begins with an analysis of the common assumption (in state policy as well as in some theoretical schools of economic development) that considers industrialization, to be the only way of achieving economic development. The second part analyzes the regional development policy of the Spanish Government in the 70's, especially its role in the development of such backward areas as Galicia (GAEIG). It studies the fiscal and economic, aid, grants and other kinds of official support for those companies who set up factories in the coastal area of Lugo (Northwest of Spain) . All these analyses refer to one five year period. The article concludes that the State has promoted and supported capital accumulation, specially in some capital intensive sector and some companies, and has always protected the interests of hegemonic groups of capital
