Strikt Functioneel: Over de militaire ervaring met de organisatie van de terugtocht ; Strictly functional: The experiences of the Dutch military with the retreating of forces from international peacekeeping operations and national public cutbacks
The military is generally considered to act as a professional when it comes to retreating forces from military battleground or international conflict areas. At the same time recent national experiences with the withdrawal of national troops from international peacekeeping operations are filled with disappointments and crises. In this article the authors question the idea that these disappointments and crises are simply due to problems of reduced military competence or military morale. They argue that the military is still the alleged expert who knows how to perform military retreats and other military actions. At the same time they show that network-like decision-making structures that are inherent to the deployment of troops in international peacekeeping missions, have become a major obstacle for the military to act in its own right. The lessons that government can learn from the military experience are firstly, that decisions for national public cutbacks should be accompanied by a more in-depth (re)consideration of public (key) tasks than up to now was considered appropriate, and secondly, that more trust should be shown in the skills, knowledge and motivation of professionals to delineate and constrain the boundaries of their own fields of expertise.

Boothe graduated from the University of South Alabama as a registered nurse (1971). She received a B.S. in nursing from the Medical College of Georgia (1976), and a master's degree in Counseling from Troy State University [Florida Region] (1981). Boothe served in the U.S. Nurse Corps in the U.S. and Korea (1970-1984), and worked as clinical director and consultant at a number of health facilities in Louisiana and Florida. She became Executive Director of the Atlanta Feminist Women's Health Center in 1994. Citizen Review Panel.; Founded in California in 1971 by Carol Downer (1933-) and Lorraine Rothman (1932-2007), the Feminist Women's Health Center was established to empower women through self-knowledge, education and self-help groups. The Atlanta Feminist Women's Health Center was established in 1977. Its mission is to ""provide accessible, comprehensive gynecological healthcare to all who need it without judgment. As innovative healthcare leaders, [they] work collaboratively within [their] community and nationally to promote reproductive health, rights and justice. [They] advocate for wellness, uncensored health information and fair public policies by educating the larger community and empowering [their] clients to make their own decisions.""; The United Nations convened the Fourth World Conference on Women, September 4-15, 1995, in Beijing, China, with a Platform for Action that aimed at achieving greater equality and opportunity for women. Three previous World Conferences were held in Mexico City (International Women's Year, 1975), Copenhagen (1980) and Nairobi (1985). 189 governments and more than 5,000 representatives from 2,100 non-governmental organizations participated in the Beijing Conference. The principal themes were the advancement and empowerment of women in relation to women's human rights, women and poverty, women and decision-making, the girl-child, violence against women and other areas of concern. The resulting documents of the Conference are The Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action. The U.N. Fourth World Conference on Women manifested a global women's movement for change and has been called ""the Woodstock of the women's movement.""; The World Conference on Women was also accompanied by an informal meeting (August 30-September 8) of non-governmental organizations (NGOs). This NGO Forum on Women, Beijing '95, brought together thousands of women from around the world to exchange information and ideas, celebrate women's achievements and contributions and draw attention and develop solutions to discrimination facing women world-wide.

Public ombudsmen in Brazil: the link between the right of access to information and the effectiveness of the protection of personal data in the public sector: Public ombudsmen in Brazil: the link between the right of access to information and the effectiveness of the protection of personal data in t...
The study intends to analyze the role of ombudsman agencies in the enforcement of the personal data protection in the public sector, based on their legal attributions and procedures provided for in the applicable legislation, in particular Law n. 12,527 of 2011, Law No. 13,460 of 2017, and Law No. 13,709 of 2018, and their respective regulations. To this end, three issues emerging as central are discussed: (i) what are the legal characteristics and attributions of public ombudsman offices in Brazil?; (ii) what are the legal assignments of the ombudsman's agencies after Law No. 13,709 and the ANPD ombudsman's office and how should both contribute to data protection effectiveness in the public sector?; and, (iii) how to consider the functions of the ombudsman, the data protection officer (DPO) and the controller in the implementation of LGPD standards in the public sector? The analysis of these themes allows an interesting approximation of the practical reality of the data protection in the public sector, from the conception that the public ombudsman is a central link of communication between citizen and State and as an instrument of control over violations of this right and the regulatory functions. The methodology adopted is deductive and the research technique is indirect with bibliographic source.

A amostra final pesquisada totalizou 194 respondentes. ; Technological advances make it possible to quickly access and share personal data and information, which demands greater security and requires conscious attitudes from the different professionals who deal with these issues. Accounting professionals stand out in this universe for being responsible for customer, supplier, and employee data. The information insecurity scenario led to the creation of the General Data Protection Law (GDPL), a specific legislation for personal data handling. Driven by this context, this research aimed to analyze the GDPL compliance determinants among accounting professionals. In order to achieve this purpose, we conducted a quantitative, descriptive, survey study. For data collection, we developed and applied an online questionnaire addressed to accounting professionals. The final surveyed sample totaled 194 respondents. We performed the data analysis through Structural Equation Modeling. The validated model showed the dimensions of personal behaviors and attitudes and governance mechanisms as determinants, explaining 26.3% of GDPL compliance. This research contributes to the understanding of behavioral aspects of accounting professionals in face of the new legislation. It is an unprecedented approach and fills a gap in the accounting area, presenting useful contributions for educational institutions, class associations, and companies in the area.
