The agricultural settlement was essential in the process of establishing the state of Israel. In the 1920s the Zionist leadership claimed exclusivity in employing Hebrew workers. This research focuses on the lone Moshava settlement, and examines the reasons why its farmers, opposing the hegemonic ethos, preferred the employment of Arab workers. In the broader historical context, this article's interest is the possible reactions of a peripheral social group straining under the pressure of the hegemonic elite. The research shows how the farmers' position caused increasing involvement by powerful external organizations in the decision-making process of employment, to such an extent that the farmers virtually lost their control of the matter. Furthermore, the research illustrates how the fact that national institutions and the Hebrew workers belonging to the same ideological environment caused social values to be identified with national values and favoured them over economic values.
The present article explores the inner tensions of the legal culture in consumer society as a consequence of the interaction between democracy, liberalism and market economy under globalization. The interaction between democracy and modern political thought has given rise to liberal democratic society, moral and religious pluralism, and modern law. The interplay between liberal democracy and the market ("new liberalism") has generated the idea of "instrumental reason", whose penetration into many realms of life has transformed the structure of society and democracy itself: consumer society and a dangerous tendency of social decline prevail. Under the expansion of globalization and social decline, instrumental law may not be enough to ensure the functioning of society. Consumer society does not understand modern law and thus renders it inefficient. The analysis of the nature of social structures demonstrates that in the light of the interaction between moral relativism, the decline in the instrumental powers of the nation state and the expansion of globalization, the lack of the concept of legal duties and the reluctance to assume them becomes a fundamental agent of destruction of social structures. The parameters of legal culture in consumer society, such as legal order, the scale of the prevalence of individual lawful actions, and legal consciousness, have been increasingly on the decline.

; This article aims to shed light on the particular insights of the contextual challenges and feasibility factors of EU cohesion funds implementation in Spain as a result of a conceptually seeded political agency impact at the Maastricht Treaty turning point. Furthermore, it aspires to point out the triggers of a fragility based on the neglected unfolding of the potentialities offered by EU cohesion policy via unsustainable innovation model choices and sharpened gaps in the national institutional system. The main sources selected to elucidate the retroaction cycle between external contextual factors and inner national tensions in the definition of precise modes of implementing cohesion funds come from the Spanish General Administrative Archives, the Spanish Foreign Affairs Ministry and the Spanish Secretariat of State for EU Affairs Archives, as well as from Oral History interviews with key decisionmakers on EU cohesion funds both at the European institutions and at the domestic level.

This thesis sets out to investigate conflicts surrounding nature management in Inner Troms, focusing on different narratives expressed within three cases: 1) The merging of MaukenBlåtind Training Area and Firing Range, where the state has decided that military activities and Sámi reindeer herding activities shall take place in the same area; 2) The expansion of Upper Dividalen Landscape Conservation Area and National Park, where a conflict emerged between state actors and local resource users; and 3) Predator politics in relation to sheep farming and reindeer herding in an area where they must live side by side. The aim of the research is to answer two research questions: 1) Who are the affected actors in each nature management conflict, what are their respective narratives, and what can these tell us about existing power dynamics?; and 2) How does power affect the decision-making process in each case, especially in terms of conflict management and the creation of winners and losers? ; submittedVersion ; M-IES

This paper concerns the formation of detachable political groups among the Mongols in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries and the process of their reattachment to larger polities within the Russian and Qing empires. It traces the case of Okin Taisha, who split off from the Abaga Mongols in present-day Inner Mongolia, became a subject of the Russians, then of a Khalkha Mongolian noble, and finally returned to Russia. The paper argues that kinship relations were a crucial means for conceptualising these attachments and detachments. Kinship should not be assumed invariably to imply solidarity, but rather also encodes division, inequality of status, and uncertainty in personal relations. The paper also aims to contribute to understanding of the internal composition of such split-away polities, which were not initially based on kinship, even though their aristocratic leaders expressed their relations with other leaders in kin terms.
