The various political, economic, social and technological changes are pushing organizations to extend constantly there activities. They face environments that tend to be increasingly demanding and unstable ; On the one hand, the globalization that shifts all borders and on the other the invasion of new information and communication technologies in all the functions of the company.Nowadays people from different cultures can be brought to work together within the same company. However, this may create misunderstandings between the concerned persons. These rivalries do not simply concern linguistic misunderstandings, but go beyond them. Indeed, the understanding, the interpretation, the way of acting and the thinking of each one, will depend essentially on its own culture. This is what has aroused our interest and has pushed us to deepen this subject to better understand the phenomenon of intercultural communication in an organizational environment and to deduce the difficulties encountered during an interaction in such a situation. Examining identity in relation to globalization and migration, this book uses narratives and memoirs from contemporary authors who have lived 'in-between' two or more languages. It explores the human desire to find one's 'own place' in new cultural contexts, and looks at the role of language in shaping a sense of belonging in society.

Intercultural communication : the creation of a new discipline.
Intercultural communication, a university discipline which appeared in the United-States at the end of the 60s, is the scientific study of the barriers to communication between individuals of different cultures and sub-cultures.
This field of research opened when the two trends relating to culture and communication overlapped from 1965 onwards. Intercultural communication, in order to build up its object and to assert its legitimacy, relies on a certain number of subdisciplines derived from contemporary, cultural anthropology : cognitive anthropology and symbolics in particular. It also gives great importance to the phenomenological alternative which inspires the social theory of today (ethnome-thodology applied to the school sector, for instance).
Intercultural communication is particularly interesting for the world of education, international management and all the institutions concerned with the improvement of interethnic relations.
The intermixing of populations in the world of today will more and more impose the development of serious scientific studies in this field.

The European Union is an interesting political space for analyzing the points of contact between research on international communication and research on intercultural communication. Indeed, the European Union (EU) is obviously with 28 countries (soon 27) a space where unfolds an international multilingual communication. It is also a political institution that seeks to create an intercultural public sphere to legitimize a "united in diversity" political structure (EU motto). Is this institutional goal achieved? Can the communication policy implemented by the EU executive (the European Commission) for 500 million Europeans help to create a space for mediation and engagement that is common as well as respectful of cultural diversity? The purpose of this article is to answer this question.
