Der Verfasser schildert zunächst ausführlich die Anfänge und Entwicklung des Internet in den USA, seine weltweite Verbreitung und die gewaltigen Nutzungsmöglichen. Die Reflexionen erstrecken sich im einzelnen auf die Anwendungsgebiete Hochschulbildung und kommerzielle Nutzung, resp. Wirtschaft. Anhand von Einzelbeispielen wird der Eingriff in das gesellschaftliche Leben der westlichen Welt durch die allgemeine Vernetzung aufgezeigt und auf die Entwicklung zu einer hochtechnologisierten "Informationsgesellschaft" hingewiesen. Als positiv werden die Möglichkeiten hinsichtlich der internationalen Integrationsprozesse bewertet und so die Notwendigkeit der Nutzung für Rußland betont. (BIOst-Rgl)
