Internet communication in and with developing countries. Summary
Developing countries and modern information and communication technologies (ICTs): How do they go together? This often-discussed, but rarely examined in detail topic is dealt with in this book, primarily on the basis of sub-Saharan Africa, a world region with considerable obstacles to development. The focus is on internet use, which is particularly prerequisite-rich. In fact, the hurdles for a development-promoting use of modern ICTs and especially the internet are still very high there. The results of the study, which is rich in material and for which research was also carried out on site, not only point to the potential of ICT for development, but also show that internet use in sub-Saharan Africa is already diverse and is currently developing dynamically. There are considerable opportunities and needs for an expansion of the information society in this region of the world, not only with regard to the fields that are the focus of the study (democratisation, economy, education and research). Proposals on how to react to this politically and promote development through networking are another focus of this ...

In: Vestnik Volgogradskogo gosudarstvennogo universiteta. Serija 2, Jazykoznanie = Lingustics, Heft 5, S. 141-152
ISSN: 2409-1979
The article examines the structural features of neologisms associated with coronavirus pandemic based on the texts of mass media and Internet communication. The paper uses such research methods as the continuous sampling method, the general scientific descriptive and analytical method, the methods of word-formation, structural and semantic analysis of neologisms. The authors analyzed the nominal derivatives of conventional (addition, prefix, suffixation, affixation) and occasional (inter-word overlap, graphic hybridization, substitution derivation) methods of word formation in media texts. The key elements of the sociocultural space (virus, quarantine, coronavirus, masks, etc.) that evoke negative associations in the addressee are identified. Having found and analysed nominations with the corona component, the researchers proved that this element tends to demonstrate the features of prefixoid. Neologisms with corona component are critical phenomena, negative changes in the economy, tourism, politics; they denote the living conditions that have developed during the coronavirus infection, etc. It is shown that the vocabulary of the modern Russian language is actively replenished with verbal neologisms, which areused to add expressiveness to media text; they correlate with actual phenomena of public life. The authors conclude that "coronavirus" neologisms participate in creating the expressiveness of the text, reflect reality, and allow journalists to deliver their own opinion. The results of the conducted research contribute to word-formation neology, media linguistics, can be useful to students of philological specialties, lecturers and tutors, as well as to anyone interested in active processes, which occur in the modern Russian language.

Many social scientists are deeply concerned with the problem of youth cyber dependency. It is primarily caused by people's "submergence" into the newest technological gadgets and virtual reality. In sociological lexis one can even meet such a term like "youth go online". The author proposes a definition for that term applied to describe people who use electronic smartphones most part of their day (in some cases even like a background all day long). However we can't diminish all advantages associated with the Internet using. It is both quick access to any information and distance education, the possibility to transfer money in a second through the whole world and other. But here the author stresses upon another side of Internet using. The paper reveals some forms of social and psychological challenges and deviance behavior while active using of virtual mass communication tools. Moreover, the article observes the most fundamental research in the sphere of sociology of youth and mass communication conducted by famous Russian and International scientists. Their studies reveal that young internet users sometimes lose a strong connection with the real world which is caused by informational overloading or "computer hunger". On the base of the empirical data made by the Sociological School of The Moscow State University of International Relations (MGIMO-University), there was made an attempt to clarify the youth understanding of such phenomenon like internet-responsibility for the content users post and what do students mean by the term "cybersecurity"? Besides above-mentioned personal security, special attention is paid to the problem of international cyber terrorism which can cause more damage not only to companies but the whole governments. In that connection the article discloses the functioning of international organizations like United Nations, European Union and Council of Europe aimed to the prevention of destructive forms of internet using and creation of global culture of cybersecurity.
