Tsangnyön Herukas sånger: En studie och översättning av en tibetansk buddhistisk yogis religiösa poesi
"The core of the book is a complete annotated translation of the collected 'religious poetry' (Tibetan: mgur) of the Tibetan yogin Tsangnyön Heruka (gTsang smyon Heruka, 1452–1507). The book also contains a translation of a short 'catalogue' (dkar chag) of Tsangnyön's poetry/songs. These two texts were compiled and printed in 1508 by a group of disciples who wanted to express their devotion to their recently deceased master, and make his insights available for others. The Songs of Tsangnyön Heruka begins with an extensive scholarly introduction to Tsangnyön and his songs, providing the reader with a context to the translations. Following the two translated texts, is an appendix introducing Tibetan Buddhism to the general reader, then comes a glossary explaining some of the key terms used in the songs, and finally some back matters, i.e. end notes and bibliographies.
Nowadays, Tsangnyön Heruka is mainly known for having written and printed the 'life story' (rnam thar) and 'song collection' (mgur 'bum) of the famous poet-saint Milarepa (1040–1123). However, Tsangnyön is not only one of Tibet's foremost authors and poets, he is also one of the best known 'holy madmen' (smyon pa) of Tibet. These colourful figures challenged powerful leaders and monks with their peculiar and seemingly crazy ways.
In sharp contrast to Milarepa's life story and songs, Tsangnyön's were gradually forgotten. Tsangnyön's songs provide us with a fascinating and direct insight into the lifestyle, teachings, and message of the wandering yogins. Moreover, they give us an idea of how it was in Tibet before the Fifth Dalai Lama came to power in the mid-17th century. However, the songs have a direct, down-to-earth, and human message, making them timeless and relevant also for people living in another time and culture.
These songs have never been translated to any language, and they have never been studied thoroughly before."
British Buddhism: teachings, practice and development
In: Routledge critical studies in Buddhism
This book provides a survey of the seven largest Buddhist traditions in the UK, including the Forest Sangha (Theravada) and the Samatha Trust (Theravada), the Serene Reflection Meditation tradition (Soto Zen) and Soka Gakkai (both originally Japanese), the Tibetan Karma Kagyu and New Kadampa traditions and Friends of the Western Buddhist Order. Based on extensive fieldwork, the author determines how and to what extent British Buddhists groups are changing from their Asian roots, and whether any forms of "British Buddhism" are beginning to emerge
Tu i teraz, bez obaw i oczekiwań. Praktyka medytacyjna a orientacja temporalna
In: Folia psychologica, Heft 15, S. 17-30
The article is focused on the relationship between meditation, degree of involvement in the practice and temporal orientation, in particular active concentration on present time called "Carpe diem". Two hypotheses are tested: a) Practitioners, as compared to nonpractitioners, are presenting significantly higher active concentration on the present and lower orientation on the past, future and present fatalistic orientation; b) If involvement in meditation increases, active concentration on the present also increases. A survey has been carried out on a group of 160 practitioners of Karma Kagyu linage of Tibetan Buddhism in Poland and a group of 100 nonpractitioners. The results suggest, practitioners are more actively focused on present time and this active concentration increases with involvement in meditation.
Migration and Socio-Economic Adaptation: A Study of Tibetans in Rumtek Dharma Chakra Centre, Sikkim
In: Sociological bulletin: journal of the Indian Sociological Society, Band 69, Heft 3, S. 385-401
ISSN: 2457-0257
The post-1959 migration of Tibetans due to Chinese incursion in Tibet impelled them to seek refuge in many countries. Due to socio-cultural, historical and religious ties between Sikkim and Tibetan for centuries and also due to geographical proximity, Sikkim was one of the most desired destinations. Based on the study of Tibetan settlement of Rumtek Dharma Chakra Centre, the largest monastery of Karma Kagyu Lineage in Sikkim, the article is an attempt to make an exploratory study to enquire the process of migration and socio-economic adaptation faced by the migrant Tibetan communities of Rumtek. By revisiting historical references and comparative evaluation of the field carried out in two phases, the article is a sociological exploration to examine the changes and challenges faced by the community.
Origins and Development of Buddhism in Poland
In: Interdisciplinary journal for religion and transformation in contemporary society: J-RaT, Band 9, Heft 1, S. 28-45
ISSN: 2364-2807
Abstract
According to the data provided in 2016 by the Polish Main Department of Statistics (Główny Urząd Statystyczny), the Buddhist Diamond Way Association of Karma Kagyu Lineage was one of ten most popular religions in Poland with more than 8200 adherents. Currently there are 19 officially registered Buddhist religious groups in Poland with ca. 14000 members, and what is noteworthy, this number increases in time, against the general declining trend, that can be observed in the majority of Polish religious groups. The article will show how Buddhism (which till the end of the 1960s. was practically unknown in Poland) became one of the most significant religious traditions in this country. It will present its constant development in the difficult times of anti-religious communist regime and in free Poland after 1989. It will also give an overview of various Buddhist traditions, that are active in Poland nowadays.
Trans-European Adaptations in the Diamond Way: Negotiating Public Opinions on Homosexuality in Russia and in the U.K
This paper focuses on a Neo-Orthodox Tibetan Buddhist movement's shifting trans-European positioning on the web and in its media self-representation with regard to public discourses around homosexuality. The analysis presented also proves methodologically relevant, exemplifying through reflexive ethnography how outsider/insider scholars can manoeuvre religious politics. As a global movement of the Karma Kagyu school of Tibetan Buddhism, the Diamond Way of the Danish lay teacher Ole Nydahl has been particularly successful in its proselytising efforts throughout Eastern and Central Europe. Previous research has noted the selectively socially conservative and mildly homophobic tendencies of the Diamond Way (Scherer 2011; 2013). In the trans-European context, from Russia to the U.K., Nydahls and the movement's mild homophobia/strained LGBT-neutrality appears to draw public criticism for either being too pro-LGBT or too anti-LGBT. The investigation highlights the shifting public perceptions and socio-religious political frontlines in Russia and the U.K. and reveals a pattern of opportunism and (non-)negotiating public opinions.

A Lineage in Time : The Vicissitudes of the rNgog pa bka' brgyud from the 11th through 19th centuries ; Un lignage à l'épreuve du temps : les vicissitudes des rNgog pa bka' brgyud du XIe au XIXe siècle
The rNgog lineage was a religious hereditary lineage that flourished in Tibet from the 11th to the 15th century and participated in the efflorescence of several tantric transmissions that remain alive in contemporary Tibetan Buddhism. This dissertation is the history of the rNgog pa bka' brgyud religious lineage that takes root in 10th-century India, was acculturated in Tibet through the efforts of the translator Mar pa Chos kyi blo gros (1000?-1081?) and spans the second millennium. It is also the history of the rNgog hereditary lineage, from its mythic origins, to its blossoming in the 12th century and its silent dispersion in the political transformations of 17th-century Central Tibet. Its core is a pair of twenty-five-folio narratives composed within the rNgog lineage that are at the crossroads of hagiography, genealogy and records of teachings received. Its framework are two large collections of tantric exegesis and rituals. The first, the Treasury of bKa' brgyud Mantras, was compiled in the 19th century in order to safeguard the Mar rngog traditions and facilitate their transmission. The second one, the Compilation of rNgog Cycles, was published ten years ago but contains ancient material composed by the rNgog and their disciples. The aim of this study is to understand the history of these texts and, more broadly, the history of the rNgog and their position in the religious field of Central Tibet until the 17th century. For this, several approaches are adopted, including source criticism, textual and socio-historical analysis.
