Efficient Labor Utilization in a Developing Economy

The average output from a worker cannot be greater than the available energy resources, expressed in terms of food intake surplus to normal living requirements. National, social, and economic patterns in an underdeveloped country prevent rapid changes in food intake, but more efficient use of the available work capacity is possible. Estimates are given to suggest production increases of up to four times current levels while remaining competitive with more advanced producing countries.
