Legitimation Crisis in Education
Professional educators are increasingly the subject of criticism from citizens. Citizens are concerned that graduates seem unable to perform in work roles. Although this problem significantly reflects changes in the content of work, citizens hold teachers responsible because education has implicitly promised vocational success. The attack on professional educators is intensified by a general citizen attack on commoditized social services. The extent of service delivery structures has led citizens to force service policy into the public political arena. Professional educators have difficulty responding to these problems or challenges because in claiming professional status they disavowed any political interests or skills. The politicization of services suggests that professions will take a new form in the future.

Mass Mobilization and Legitimation Crisis in Nigeria

An exploration of various campaigns in Nigeria since the mid-1970s that purportedly sought to mobilize the people against economic & social injustices, which were exacerbated by the economic crisis. The overt goals of these campaigns were based on a neutral ideology of prudence, honesty, & the Protestant work ethic. It is argued here, however, that this ideological neutrality was a smoke screen, & that the people were misinformed in order to mobilize them against their own best interests. The Jaji Declaration of 12 Sept 1977, the Ethical Revolution of 1981-1983, & the War against Indiscipline of 1984/85 are among the campaigns cited as examples of this pseudopopular mobilization. These efforts have actually aggravated both the economic & the legitimation crisis of the Nigerian State. J. W. Stanton

AbstractThe political 'explosion' that took place in Greece was a symptom of a systemic and deep‐rooted legitimation crisis of the Greek state. (DÜI-Spl)

Legitimation crisis and securitization in modern Turkey

Though in Turkey modernization is underway since the establishment of the Republic by Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, democratic consolidation has not yet been achieved. Applying paradigms of J. Habermas and B. Buzan, the author attempts to find out the reasons of this failure. He argues that the political elite's ideology, Kemalism, perceives the popular classes as potential threats. Persistant preoccupation with security has created a system where the military are used to suppress those perceived as internal enemies (Islamists and Kurds). The paramount role given to the military in the political arena decreases the chances for democratic consolidation. (DÜI-Cls)
