La Health Literacy (HL) se définit comme 'la connaissance, la motivation et les compétences des individus à accéder, comprendre, évaluer et appliquer l'information en matière de santé en vue de porter des jugements et de prendre des décisions de tous les jours en ce qui concerne la santé, la prévention des maladies et la promotion de la santé, de manière à maintenir ou améliorer la qualité de vie'. Au niveau politique belge, ce concept commence à être reconnu comme étant un domaine d'action prioritaire. En effet, une HL limitée peut affecter la santé en conduisant, par exemple, à une moins bonne gestion des maladies chroniques, à davantage d'hospitalisations et de décès prématurés. Cet article aborde la question de l'évaluation de la HL, des interventions pour l'améliorer ainsi que les nombreux défis qui restent à relever dans ce domaine. La HL semblerait fondamentale pour le développement d'une meilleure gestion de la santé. Elle permettrait au patient de jouer un rôle plus actif dans la prise en charge de sa santé, de responsabiliser tous les acteurs de la santé, et de contribuer à un système de santé plus viable. Améliorer la HL devrait permettre une meilleure égalité d'accès aux soins de santé. ; Health literacy (HL) is defined as 'the knowledge, motivation, and competences to access, understand, appraise and apply health information in order to make judgments and take decisions in everyday life concerning health care, disease prevention and health promotion to maintain or improve quality of life'. This concept begins to be recognized as a priority area for action at political level in Belgium. Indeed, a limited HL may affect health by leading, by example, with poorer management of chronic diseases, more hospital admissions and premature deaths. This paper addresses the question of HL evaluation, improvement interventions as well as the many challenges that remain in this area. HL seems fundamental to the development of better health management. It would allow patients to play a more active role in health care, to involve all health stakeholders, and to contribute to a more sustainable health system. Despite the proportion of illiterate people in sub-Saharan Africa having declined between 1985 and 2008, the number of illiterates has actually increased during the period. It is within this context, that since April 2000, the international community has been committed to six Education for All goals. One of these goals is to achieve a 50 per cent improvement in adult literacy levels by 2015. This thesis aims to analyse how primary education and literacy programs (two processes on which educational policy can intervene) enable the populations of sub-Saharan Africa to acquire basic reading skills. In the vast majority of African countries, the analysis based on household surveys shows that schooling to the end of the primary cycle is not sufficient to enable literacy as an adult, and the former also show that it is critical to have had education of some quality. Furthermore, the individual literacy levels can be very different from one country to another, even with the same teaching time. This shows significant disparities in terms of educational quality. These disparities cannot be explained by differences in the levels of resources allocated to educational systems. The former would rather appear to be related to differences on the one hand, in the teaching time received by individuals, and on the other, to how the school is organized within this time. If primary education, as it currently operates, is not enough to ensure sustainable literacy for individuals, thus this implies that literacy activities play a significant role. The analysis of household surveys shows that participation in literacy programs is, on average, quite limited in SSA. In addition, there is high variability between countries in terms of the impacts of literacy activities on reading skills. This is probably due to the wide variety of the literacy programs that are implemented. This diversity, combined with no real national policy on the development of literacy, makes it very difficult to identify possible efficient ways of organizing literacy activities. ; Si la proportion d'adultes analphabètes dans les pays d'Afrique subsaharienne a décliné entre 1985 et 2008, le nombre d'individus analphabètes a en réalité augmenté au cours de cette période. De plus, pour un même temps d'enseignement, le degré d'alphabétisme des individus est très différent selon les pays, indiquant donc de fortes disparités en termes de qualité de l'éducation. Ces disparités ne s'expliquent pas par des niveaux différents de ressources allouées aux systèmes éducatifs, mais paraissent plutôt liées à des différences liées d'une part, au temps d'enseignement dont ont bénéficié les individus, et d'autre part, à l'organisation du contexte scolaire à l'intérieur de ce temps. Si la scolarisation primaire ne suffit pas, dans son fonctionnement actuel, à assurer un savoir lire durable aux individus, cela implique un rôle significatif des activités d'alphabétisation. Il ressort des analyses des enquêtes de ménages que la participation à des programmes d'alphabétisation reste en moyenne assez limitée en Afrique subsaharienne. De plus, il existe une très forte variabilité entre les pays, des impacts des activités d'alphabétisation sur le savoir lire des individus. Ceci s'explique sans doute par la grande diversité des programmes d'alphabétisation mis en œuvre. Cette diversité, à laquelle s'ajoute la quasi-absence de véritable politique nationale de développement de l'alphabétisation, rend très difficile l'identification des modalités efficientes d'organisation des activités d'alphabétisation.

We report on a survey of 942 grade 10 and 11 students from 10 urban and 'rurban' boards in 5 Canadian provinces that takes stock of multicultural education three decades on in the context of youth's multiple, multimedia spheres of learning. This survey is presented as an innovative research instrument measuring what young people know about the struggles as well as the intellectual, political and cultural legacies of racialized peoples globally and nationally and where they learned it (school, media, family, community). Bivariate analysis of demographic, knowledge and attitudinal questions suggests schools' unique role in building a common knowledge base to combat Eurocentrism and cultural racism.

From Revolution to Catering, Ms de Staël often turned to foreign political institutions to reflect on the most desirable regime for France, with England very admired in this respect. But that 'elsewhere' does not, in my view, exhaust the political role of foreign nationals in the work of that author. His reflection on foreign literatures, in 'Literature' in 1800 as well as in 'Germany' ten years later, is also of political significance, which shows that the report to 'elsewhere' cannot be reduced to the imitation of a model. If the main word of the first book is perfectibility — which is a secondary aspect of the geographical axis, but does not erode it — the second shows how, paradoxically, foreign literature can have political significance in France, even though it is, in its own country, inapplicable, incapable of uniting minds or forming them, and does not bring any particular light on political affairs. The 1980-90's have been a golden age, that of the "Pulaar movement" where Fula language (Pulaar or Fulfulde), the fourth most widely spoken African language, has been the subject of extensive mobilization for his writing in adapted Latin script. This cultural and social movement surprises for two reasons : firstly, its relative magnitude, duration and popular involvement, on the other hand, the choice of the Latin script though Fula is written in Arabic script from at least the 18th century.The central question chosen to study this cultural nationalism reinvested by development actors was to understand what pulaar movement can reveal about haalpulaar society (or "toucouleur") and vice versa. Reading and writing in their mother tongue does change anything? How scriptural skills and practices are socially constructed ? How do they participate in individual and collective construction ? How do they affect social relationships ? In response, Pulaar literacy should be addressed in its pluriscriptural and digraphic context. Cet article propose une analyse des liens entre les espaces virtuels des jeux vidéo et les espaces physiques des manifestations. Les récents mouvements élucident l'importance de la compréhension de l'espace, que ce soit par les manifestants ou par la police pour occuper ou contrôler un espace contesté. Récemment et en réponse aux manifestations de masse, de nombreux créateurs de jeux et activistes ont développé des jeux vidéo pour soutenir les manifestants dans leur quête de justice. Cette recherche présume que l'espace du jeu peut offrir aux mouvements sociaux un moyen d'actualiser leur conscience collective de l'espace et donc agir en tant qu'outil de littératie spatiale. Par conséquent, cette recherche pose deux questions : est-ce que le répertoire actuel contient des jeux qui mettent en considération le rôle l'espace joue dans les manifestations ? En outre, est-ce que Les créateurs de jeux de protestation sont conscients de la dimension spatiale lors de la construction de leurs jeux ? Afin de répondre aux questions de recherche, nous commençons par définir la littératie spatiale comme le niveau de conscience spatiale et d'engagement spatial qu'un jeu peut comprendre. Utilisant trois points de vue : le mode de représentation, la spatialité et la pédagogie, cette recherche étudie trois cas impliquant le jeu, la protestation et la ville. Les trois cas sont 1979 Revolution: Black Friday (2016), OccupyGezi (2013) et Riot: Civil Unrest (2019). La recherche a conclu que les créateurs des jeux étaient partiellement conscients de la dimension spatiale d'une manifestation, mais ils n'ont pas réussi à imbriquer les espaces construits dans le récit du jeu et à engager les joueurs dans l'espace du jeu ; et par conséquent, les jeux présentés ne parviennent pas à agir comme un outil de littératie spatiale. The recent movements elucidate the importance of spatial understanding, whether by the protesters or the police to occupy or control a contested space. Recently and in response to the mass protests, many game makers and activists have developed video games to support protesters in their quest for justice. This research argues that gamespace can offer for social movements a way to actualise their collective conscious and to act as a tool of spatial literacy. Therefore, this research poses two questions: Does the existing library contain games that put into consideration the role space plays in protests? Moreover, are the game makers aware of the spatial dimension when building their games? To answer the research questions, we start by defining spatial literacy as the level of spatial awareness and spatial engagement that a game can comprise. Using three analytical lenses: Representation, spatiality, and pedagogy, this research studies three cases that engage with gameplay, protest, and the city. The Three cases are 1979 Revolution: Black Friday (2016), OccupyGezi (2013) et Riot: Civil Unrest (2019). The research concluded that games makers were partially aware of the spatial dimension of a protest, but they failed to interweave the constructed spaces with the game narrative and to engage players in the game space, and consequently, the presented games fall short in acting as a tool for spatial literacy. Although the present cases mostly neglected the spatial dimension, this research still believe in the potential of the gamespace to act as a tool of spatial literacy; thus, we propose the integration of geospatial technologies in the construction of gamespaces in the hope that they can serve as a spatial literacy tool for protesters. ; Peer reviewed

The article deals with the role of writing in developing a reflex paradigm that allows subjects (in training or research) to think about their multiple identities by connecting them with knowledge (Norway, anthropological, etc.), powerful enough to thrive without reducing it. It therefore contributes to the development of a reflex paradigm in education and training, in the socio-didactic perspective of languages and cultures.The first part is devoted to Montaigne, which opens ways with Les Essais to define reflexibility in a history. Montaigne said that a reflex text could be received as a text of ideas that would enrich our knowledge of people and society. It then shows that the consideration of various types of change and alterations is central to this preparation and to this textual approach. This study reconstructs the history of the urban government of Cavaillon between the mid-13th and the early 15th century from two complementary perspectives : on the one hand, through the building of a territory by the universitas and, on the other hand, through the use of written records in governments and administrative practices. This methodology enables a detailed understanding of the aims and means of assertion of the community and of the processes at work in the social relations which underlie it. The legal recognition of the universitas by its lordship opens towards the possibility of developing a local right, the enforcement of which requires the definition of a territory with set boundaries within the Comtat Venaissin. It is this process which, by associating legislation and records in the framing of a territory, allows the community to develop within the feudal and papal contexts by creating new definitions of social identity. ; Ce travail propose une histoire du gouvernement de la ville de Cavaillon entre le milieu du XIIIe siècle et le début du XVe siècle. L'analyse conjugue deux perspectives : d'une part celle de la construction de son territoire par l'universitas et, d'autre part, celle du recours à l'écrit comme outil de gestion et de gouvernement. Cette approche permet de saisir les motifs et les outils de l'affirmation de la communauté et de comprendre les processus qui font évoluer les rapports sociaux qui la sous-tendent. La reconnaissance juridique de l'universitas par ses seigneurs ouvre la voie à la production d'un droit local dont l'application requiert la définition du territoire à l'intérieur du Comtat Venaissin. C'est ce processus qui, en associant le droit et l'écrit à la construction de l'espace, donne à la communauté d'habitants la possibilité d'exister à l'intérieur du système seigneurial et du gouvernement pontifical, en développant de nouvelles modalités d'appartenance sociale.
