A growing body of literature confirms the existence of different social models, identified according to different combinations of policies and institutions. Knogler and Lankes aim to contribute to this literature by exploring characteristics of social policies in the enlarged European Union. The analysis is based on a set of social policy indicators with a focus on labour markets. By means of Principal Component Analysis they identify four major dimensions of social models. The dimensions are used as a basis for clustering countries into social models, which significantly differ from the commonly proposed regional classification of social models prior to enlargement.

The Kazakhstan Migration and Remittances Survey (KMRS) data were collected in the framework of the research project "Migration and Remittances in Central Asia: The Case of Kazakhstan and Tajikistan", which was funded by the Volkswagen Foundation in 2009-2013. The KMRS 2010 was designed and implemented by the Institute for East- and Southeast European Studies Regensburg, Germany, in cooperation with the Center for Study of Public Opinion (CIOM) Almaty, Kazakhstan.

Befragt werden in jährlichem Rhythmus zum einen Haushalte, die Transferleistungen beziehen und zum anderen Haushalte der allgemeinen Wohnbevölkerung. In jedem dieser Haushalte wird zunächst mit einer Person ein Haushaltsinterview und anschließend mit jeder Person ab 15 Jahren ein Personeninterview geführt. Mit Hilfe des PASS können zentrale Forschungsfragen, wie beispielsweise die Dynamik des Bezugs von Arbeitslosengeld II sowie die Auswirkungen des Transferleistungsbezugs auf die wirtschaftliche und soziale Lage der betroffenen Haushalte und Personen untersucht werden. Aber auch über den Kernbereich Beschäftigung und Arbeitslosigkeit hinaus bietet das PASS ein breites Fragenspektrum, das z.B. auch zahlreiche soziodemographische Merkmale oder subjektive Indikatoren (wie Zufriedenheit, Ängste und Sorgen, Erwerbsorientierung) beinhaltet.

International climate cooperation needs to be negotiated among sovereign countries. The key to cooperation, and to countervail free riding, is reciprocity. Using game theory and a human subject experiment, we show that reciprocity can be built into the negotiation design. Human players negotiating a reciprocal common commitment are substantially more successful in promoting cooperation than when negotiating individual commitments. Moreover, focusing on a uniform common commitment strongly facilitates agreement, as compared to negotiating a vector of commitments, one for each player. Because a carbon price is a natural candidate for a uniform common commitment, our findings suggest that international climate negotiations should focus on reciprocal carbon pricing. Economists advocate carbon pricing for its cost efficiency, yet the role of carbon pricing for promoting cooperation could be at least as important.

The research dataset 'Statistics on international financial and capital transactions (SIFCT)' provides the microdata collected by the Deutsche Bundesbank for the compilation of the financial account, capital account and investment income of the German balance of payments statistics. The research dataset provides detailed information on capital transfers receivable and payable between residents and nonresidents, the acquisition and disposal of nonproduced, nonfinancial assets as well as transactions involving financial assets and liabilities and investment income. It is supplemented by the country of the counterparty and the sector classification of the resident firm. The research data are available from 2001 as a panel dataset with a monthly frequency.
