This research aimed to analyze Acehnese local wisdom existing within people living in Langsa and to describe media literacy based on local wisdom. A qualitative approach was applied by means of ethnographic research. The data were collected using observation through relating documents. The data were analyzed through several stages: describing Acehnese local wisdom existing within media, classifying data, analyzing data, and describing media literacy model based on local wisdom. Local wisdom is known as a cultural asset that develops in an area, all policies and customs that play a role in Aceh will become a culture that is respected and appreciated in Aceh. In its development, local wisdom is very influential in protecting people's thoughts, including the seeds of radicalism. The existence of radicalism in Aceh was most evident during the conflict between the Republic of Indonesia and the separatist movement in Aceh. After the peace period of the MOU Helsingki took place, radicalism in Aceh did not occur openly. Only ripples of thought trying to incite from within the disapproval of the current government. You could say, the turmoil arose because of the influence of political color, where the current population of Aceh is quantitatively more inclined to the failed presidential candidate. The problem raised in this study is how to revitalize the values of Aceh's local wisdom which are threatened with fading due to the globalization of foreign cultures. This research design uses qualitative with reference sources based on literature and field studies. The analysis technique is descriptive. The findings of this study are that local wisdom is ideal in countering the existence of radicalism in Aceh through the media meuseumeuraya, tengku authorities, implementing the values of 'hadih madja', sub-district da'i programs, and so on. In conclusion, strengthening local wisdom in Aceh is very urgent because the character of the Acehnese people respects traditional values and authority more than the government authority. Kata-kata kunci: revitalisasi, kearifan lokal, radikalisme

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to discuss the local wisdom‐based recovery model that has been applied in the Bantul district, Yogyakarta, Indonesia following the 2006 earthquake. This recovery model might appropriately be implemented in any type of local government in developing countries which have strong local culture characteristics.Design/methodology/approachThis research is an exploratory case study which concentrates on the Bantul district. Data were gathered in two categories: primary data and secondary data. Primary data were collected through in‐depth interviews. Secondary data were collected from related document such as articles, books, web sites or government and NGO reports.FindingsBantul is a small district in the province of Yogyakarta Special region, Indonesia, and is known to be a highly urbanized area, poverty‐stricken and lacking in funds, and with a limited capability to manage a disaster. However, the two years of recovery has resulted in "reimaging" this district as a well‐planned area with a correctly targeted development strategy. The results of the recovery phase were satisfactory. The recovery efforts paid due respect to the high quality of existing local cultures and popular wisdom. Principally, it is the people themselves who should decide how to rebuild their houses. Local government has only provided assistance for earthquake‐resistant houses and has supported basic housing needs.Originality/valueThis paper presents lessons learnt from local government in a developing country in dealing with a recovery process based on local community wisdom.
Tabot is a series of rituals to commemorate the martyrdom of Hussein bin Ali bin Abi Talib who died in an unbalance war against the army of Yazid bin Muawiyah in The Battle of Karbala. At first, Tabot Festival was a religious ritual affiliated to Shia. It was first brought by Sheikh Burhanuddin known as Imam Senggolo in 1685. There are many similarities between Tabot in Bengkulu and Ta'ziyeh ritual celebrated by the followers of Shia in Persia and other countries that have many adherents of Shia. However, their relationship was limited to common history and the execution time only, while in terms of politics and religion, there is no connection between the two Over time, there is a shift in the meaning of Tabot, from religious ritual became a cultural festival in Bengkulu. There are some people who question the authenticity of Tabot and consider that it deviates the teachings of religion. However, the study found that the Tabot Festival is no longer belong to a particular individual or group, but it has become a common property of Bengkulu society. It has become a cultural heritage that must be preserved. Keywords: tabot, Bengkulu, local wisdom
