International audience ; A set of general formulas is proposed for the probability of failure on demand (PFD) assessment of MooN architecture (i.e. k-out-of-n) systems subject to partial and full tests. Partial tests (e.g. visual inspections, imperfect testing) may detect only some failures, whereas owing to a full test, the system is restored to an as good as new condition. Following the proposed approach and according to an example, performance estimations of the system and test policies are presented, by using the feedback from partial and full tests. An optimization of the partial test distribution is also proposed, which allows reducing the average probability of system failure on demand (PFDavg).

In the same way than Voltaire as far as justice and litterature are concerned, and than Turgot in matter of economics and politics, d'Alembert has been traditionally considered as the mentor of condorcet in sciences and mathematics. For all that, is the influence of the joint publisher of the encyclopedie upon Condorcet's ideas in economics to be judged as a marginal one ? Precisely not : departing from a mixed conception of mathematics which he shares with d'alembert, and from a questioning upon probabilistic doubts of the latter, Condorcet has been induced to develop a choice theory under uncertainty which overtakes the classical field of chance games or of insurances, to extend to the domain of economical enterprise as such, whatsoever consisting in culture, commerce or industry. In doing this, he submits the factor of risk to an unprecedented probabilistic formalisation as he envisages the profit collected by the undertaker. Moreover, the rehabilitation by condorcet of the praxeology's significance of probability theory, which had been ruined by d'alembert, enlightens the peculiarity of some of his reflections in matter of public education, those being closely linked to his thought in economics. According to condorcet, only the teaching of doctrine of chances can actually enable individuals to give a rational turn to their economic behaviour. We present an optimization problem for the maintenance of a multi-component system designed by Thales. This system is subject to random deteriorations and failures of its components, during the missions for which it is required, leading to the evolution of its state and an unavailability penalty in case of failure. The challenge is then to define an optimal policy for the use and maintenance of the system, in order to guarantee the good progress of the missions, while minimizing its management costs. It is a question of determining a compromise between intervening too early, generating unnecessary maintenance costs, and intervening too late, leading to the failure of the system and to paying penalties and more expensive operations. One of the specificities of this work is to consider a sequential decision making on the system. Then, it is about differentiating the maintenance operations according to the state of each of its components. The main idea of this work is then to define a mathematical model for the evolution of the system via the formalism of a Markovian Decision Process (MDP). Thus, the objective is to solve the associated optimization problem, i.e. to determine for each decision date and each state of the system, the action that minimizes the sum of the costs generated over the whole horizon. This is called a policy. We define several preventive and corrective reference policies and compare their performances in terms of costs and failure statistics, by Monte-Carlo simulations. This illustrates the interest of grouping the maintenances during the workshop visits, and of considering the operating times of the components for decision making, in order to reduce both the costs and the failure rate. The model specified for this industrial problem gives rise to a non-standard optimization problem in the MDP framework, because the system state space is continuous and the transition kernel is not analytically explicit, but only simulatable. In order to be able to search for an optimal policy over a finite set ...

Condition and health monitoring can bring out useful information for the maintenance decision-making but few models allow their integration in the decision process. This thesis aims to construct new probabilistic quantitative models to evaluate the value of this kind of information depending on its quality and on the nature of the observed variables. The proposed stochastic failure and measurement models take into account the degradation/failure sensor data, the impact of operational environment on the degradation, as well as the nature of control techniques. Based on these models, we propose different maintenance policies and we develop the associated cost model to study the best methods for the exploitation of monitoring information. The studies in this thesis show the advantage of developing quantitative maintenance decision framework which allows integrating and evaluating the impact of condition monitoring information on the performance of maintenance operations.
