This paper argues that the renewed relevance and strengthened theoretical foundations of Marxian value theory will not matter unless the long-term disintegration of Marxian economics is reversed, and that this disintegration has largely been caused by internal factors. These include a lack of common standards and criteria of justification; an 'every man his own Marxist' ethos; the quest to make Marxian economics respectable; the pursuit of 'product differentiation'; a reliance on the resources of academia; and an instrumental approach to ideas. Finally, the paper proposes several measures to halt and reverse the process of disintegration.

In the years since the publication of the Prison Notebooks, the interest and importance of Antonio Gramsci's contribution to Marxist thought and political analysis has become widely recognised. The concern to explore and identify the structures of the capitalist state is both the principal characteristic of Gramsci's theoretical and political writings and also the inspiration for his writings on Italian history. This set re-issues four volumes by leading commentators on Gramsci's politics and philosophy which were originally published between 1979 and 1981.

This book provides renewed reflection and critical discussion on John Holloway's political and theoretical thought. Two decades ago, in Change the World without Taking Power, Holloway set out on a path that he followed a decade later in Crack Capitalism and continues to walk today with his new book, Hope in Hopeless Times. The contributions in this volume critically analyze his innovative attempt to rethink the meaning and dynamics of revolution in the conditions of contemporary capitalism. More than ten years after the publication of Crack Capitalism, this volume aims to question Holloway's attempt, as well as his theoretical foundations in his original rereading of Marxism and Critical Theory and their relations with the characteristics adopted by the anti-capitalist struggles during the last two decades. Its authors, from different geographies, traditions, and scientific disciplines, establish throughout its pages a fruitful dialogue convened by Holloway's innovative ideas.
