Academic Flying and the Means of Communication
This open access book shines a light on how and why academic work became entwined with air travel, and what can be done to change academia's flying habit. The starting point of the book is that flying is only one means of scholarly communication among many, and that the state of the planet now obliges us to shift to other means. How can the academic-as-globetrotter become a thing of the past? The chapters in this book respond to this call in three steps. It documents the consequences of academic flying, it investigates the issue of why academics fly, and it begins an effort to think through what can replace flying, and how. Finally, it confronts scholars and scientists, students, activists, research funders, university administrators, and others, with a call to translate this research into action.

Kinesic Training for Blind Persons: A Vital Means of Communication
In: Journal of Visual Impairment & Blindness, Band 66, Heft 7, S. 201-208
ISSN: 1559-1476
□ Further effort should be made to explore some of the areas outlined in this paper and to create an effective training program in non-verbal communication techniques for blind persons. While it was not within our scope to describe such a program, the survey of the literature should suggest a few basic components of an adapted kinesic training program. Guidelines for kinesic training may be drawn from kinesics, the theater arts, recreation, and physical therapy. It is hoped that those engaged in work with blind persons will begin to work out some of the problems posed by this study and to develop a training program which will enable blind persons to become more effective and successful in their interpersonal communication.
Musical intention as a mean of communication in variety vocal ensemble
In: Kul'tura Ukraïny: zbirnyk naukovych prac', Heft 77, S. 90-96
ISSN: 2522-1140
The purpose of this article is to analyze the subject of musical intention and its role in the communicative processes of the performing form of a variety vocal ensemble. The study of scientific publications on the topic revealed that the concept of intention is thoroughly researched in the field of philosophy, but in musicology, especially in its variety field, it has not been studied enough.
The relevance of the chosen topic is due to the growing popularity of vocal ensembles on the modern stage and insufficient theoretical understanding of the processes within this form of performance.
The methodology. In the course of this study, we used the following general and special methods: structural-functional, comparative-analytical, sys-tem-comparative, induction method, functional and empirical. In combination, all these methods of scientific knowledge allow a wider and more detailed study of the specifics of the creative activity of a variety vocal ensemble.
The results. The subject of musical intention, as well as the participants in this process in the vocal ensemble, are highlighted. The influence of musical intention on the efficiency and success of the functioning of this performing form is analyzed. On the basis of our performing and teaching practice, as well as as a result of theoretical and empirical research, we come to the conclusion that the musical intention is of paramount importance at all stages of the creative activity of the variety vocal ensemble performing form and plays a key role in its development.
The scientific novelty. For the first time, the phenomenon of musical intention is studied as the main principle of the creative activity of a variety vocal ensemble. This subject is considered not only as an abstract phenomenon, but as the main link in all communication processes of the modern variety vocal ensemble.
The practical significance. The results obtained can be actively applied in the practice of existing professional ensembles, educational vocal groups, as well as in amateur ensemble creativity. The application of the principles of intentionality will help artistic directors and performers to work more effectively and professionally with the performing form of a variety vocal ensemble.

Transport and means of communication in the patois of the hamlet of Borbushino
In: Vestnik of Kostroma State University, Band 28, Heft 2, S. 212-216
The article is devoted to the description of the local speech content devoted to transport and ways of communication. The speech material is collected according to the programme "Lexical Atlas of Russian Folkish Patois" from the words of the villagers of Borbushino of Kirillov district of Vologda Region. The oral narratives of the informants about overland travel, as well as travel by water and air, about the means of transportation of passengers and various cargoes in different natural and weather conditions are commented. It is revealed that ways of movement, vehicles, various devices for transportation of passengers and cargoes, as well as subjects that perform various functions in the transport system can be singled out within the system of ways of communication fully corresponding to the section of the programme "Lexical Atlas of Russian Folkish Patois". The layer of vocabulary reflecting the system of transport means and ways of communication in Borbushino patois reveals a number of features due to both the location of the hamlet at a significant distance from water transport routes and the family histories of the villagers. The defining position of overland transport is revealed by this. What is authentic for Borbushino patois and unusual for the traditional use of means of transport in the Northern Russian rural area is the way of air transportation of passengers and goods, which has generated a number of changes in the traditional vocabulary of Vologda land's inhabitants, but has not led to a radical restructuring of the patois speech system. The conclusion that the lexicon of the transport system of the described dialect for the most part implements the features typical for the dialect system as a whole, is made.
