Media Participation in Shaping the Agenda of New Media During Periods of Political Tension ; Участие СМИ в формировании повестки дня новых медиа в периоды политической напряженности
The article analyzes the attention of new media users to media content during the two periods characterized by a great deal of public interest to the figure of Aleksei Navalny in Russia. The author has identified the media that had the greatest impact on the users' personal agenda. At the same time, the author concludes that mass media were not the source but only an amplifier of the protest agenda. They covered the events that interested the audience and multiplied the information and positions that previously appeared in the public space of new media. Some other public pages and blogs served the same function, and the fact that they do not have the status of mass media did not prevent them from gaining great popularity with the audience. The attention was focused on live broadcasts as well as celebrities' statements about what was happening.

Image of China as an anti-Muslim "Other" in the Indonesian media
In: Političeskie issledovanija: Polis ; naučnyj i kul'turno-prosvetitel'skij žurnal = Political studies, Heft 1, S. 163-173
ISSN: 1684-0070
The purpose of this study is to analyze, using Indonesian media contents, images of China as an Alien and as a country pursuing a policy that is interpreted in Indonesia as anti-Islamic. The novelty of the study lies in the analysis of modern nationalist political imagination in the discursive space formed by the Indonesian media. The author comes to the conclusion that in this imaginary space negative images of China are formed, which subsequently circulate in it and are purposefully promoted with the aim of constructing the image of China in Indonesia as a universal ideological and political Other. The article shows that 1) the Indonesian nationalist imagination, through the media, actively reproduces negative images of China as a subject of the policy of assimilation of Muslim minorities on the territory of the PRC, 2) in the discourses of Indonesian expert and analytical communities, narratives are promoted about the authoritarian nature of the political regime of the PRC and its policies aimed at politicizing Islam and its subsequent integration into the functioning mechanism of this regime. Such a policy is interpreted in Indonesia as ideologically limiting the activities of Chinese Muslims and putting them under the control of communist ideology, which gives grounds to characterize the PRC as a political and ideological Other. Narratives that highlight the unresolved problems between the China state and Islamic communities play an important role in promoting the image of the PRC as an undemocratic and authoritarian state. The results of the study suggest that the evolution of anti-Chinese narratives and the further promotion in the Indonesian political imagination of the image of China as a universal Other and a state politically and ideologically alien to Islam will strengthen the legitimation of anti-Chinese phobias and stereotypes traditional for Indonesian society at both the political and religious levels.

1789 FRENCH REVOLUTION AS A MEDIA EVENT: IN IMAGE, RITUAL AND TEXT
This article analyzes the 1789 French Revolution as an 18th century European media event present in image, revolutionary rituals and various texts. The dominating visual and written narratives in European reflections on the Revolution construed it as an horrific, unexpected event in European political culture – a cultural break. Emotions ranged from surprise to shock and from elation to fear and visions of a political apocalypse. We analyse the range of reactions through the interaction of private and public visual media discourses and public performances in revolutionary Paris and beyond the capital of France. We analyze how the concepts of "liberty" and "rights" are discussed internationally in the context of 1789. We conclude that the concept of liberty and human rights is not just in the domain of revolution: the concept developed as part of the lexicon of the opposition to 1789 as well and was presented in images and various political rituals. ; This article analyzes the 1789 French Revolution as an 18th century European media event present in image, revolutionary rituals and various texts. Spanish mass-media on Latin American migrants: between fear and pity
In: Vestnik Instituta sociologii: setevoj žurnal = Bulletin of the Institute of Sociology : online electronic journal, Band 31, Heft 4, S. 92-110
ISSN: 2221-1616
Mass-media discourse is a "mirror" of sorts, which reflects general opinions and allows for understanding society's mindset concerning migration issues. This article is devoted to analyzing the images created by Spanish mass-media regarding Latin American immigrants residing in Spain. Such a vision ultimately led to the emergence of an enduring perception of said immigrants by Spanish society from two main points of view – fear and pity. Columbians and Ecuadorians served as the prototypes for all Latin Americans who illegally entered Spain. The author reveals the reasons for the "divide" in Spanish mass-media's perception of Columbia and Columbians, who became synonymous with danger, as well as Ecuador and Ecuadorian immigrants, who are primarily associated with Испанские СМИ о латиноамериканских мигрантах: между страхом и жалостью 110 № 4, Том 10, 2019 compassion and pity. This article examines the main stages of Latin American migration to Spain at the end of the 20th century and at the beginning of the 21st century, which were primarily comprised in succession by immigrants from Columbia, Argentina, Venezuela and Cuba. The author characterizes the most numerous of Spain's Latin American Diasporas. It is revealed that immigration is a collectively constructed social phenomenon. In turn the host society attributes certain characteristics to visitors ("others") which they in fact do not possess. Such artificially assigned qualities are the result of a so-called "symbolic structure", attributed to each "imaginary migrant". Latin American migration to Spain is a result of a multitude of factors lying on various levels. However, it is very uncommon for the news to carefully examine the regional and global aspects of this process. This article reveals the specific image of Latin American migrants which developed in Spain towards the beginning of the 21st century. The author attempts to define the hidden ideology supporting the vast majority of those negative Latin American migrant stereotypes broadcast by national mass-media.
