Für qualitative Verfahren existiert ein immenses Anwendungsspektrum, und ebenso für die Kombination qualitativer und quantitativer Methoden. Was letztere angeht, finden sich in den Sozialwissenschaften fruchtbare theoretische Diskussionen und ein erheblicher Anteil empirischer Forschungsarbeiten. Dieser Beitrag beschreibt die methodologische Kombination sowie (sequentielle und simultane) Erhebung und Auswertung qualitativer und quantitativer Daten am Beispiel einer empirischen Untersuchung. Im Besonderen soll der Forschungsprozess veranschaulicht werden: Ausgehend von einem Ansatz im Sinne der Grounded Theory Methodologie kamen zusätzlich Diskursanalysetechniken zum Einsatz, um – in einer ersten Phase – ein quantitatives Messinstrument zu konzipieren und dann – in der nächsten Phase – Cluster zu interpretieren, die durch quantitative Analysen ermittelt worden waren. Insoweit zeigt die hier skizzierten Vorgehensweise nicht nur, in welcher Weise qualitative Methoden helfen, diskursive und behaviorale Aspekte des interessierenden Forschungsfeldes zu verstehen, sondern auch, dass qualitative Verfahren unverzichtbar sind, um quantitativen Daten "Sinn" zu geben.

Social facilitation theory is one of the most paradigmatic examples of social psychology, understood as an experimental science. However, in this paper we intend to demonstrate that the research that allegedly supports it suffers from a number of defects. It uses biased population samples, and the tasks it sets its experimental subjects are limited to the practical or productive, ignoring the broader range of everyday activities such as conversing or, indeed, urinating. Social facilitation theory, far from being objective, is a microcosm of American social psychology ideology insofar as it ignores basic human functions, and fails to include stigmatized communities such as stutterers and people with bladder problems.

Este artículo expone la disputa teórica que la ciencia política propone contra la teoría de la convergencia más conocida en los campos eco-nómico y sociológico como globalización, a través de la teoría de Variedades del Capitalismo (Varieties of Capitalism, voc) y sus derivaciones. El método utilizado es el análisis teórico compa-rativo con el fin de establecer las características de los modelos de bienestar y la relación capi-tal/trabajo según ésta. Se analizan los alcances y limitaciones de las teorías de variedades del capitalismo a partir del institucionalismo histó-rico, el path dependence y el rational choice, para determinar su nivel de estatismo y capacidad de comprensión del cambio y se reseñan algunas de las derivaciones más actuales de dicha teoría.

El presente artículo pretende analizar las diferencias y las convergencias entre la Teoría Crítica, especialmente la obra de Habermas, autor perteneciente a la segunda generación, y el pensamiento decolonial, en tanto paradigmas que tratan de construir un proyecto político emancipatorio, a partir de sus supuestos ontológicos, epistemológicos y metodológicos, así como la naturaleza de las propuestas políticas que ambas corrientes de pensamiento han sostenido y sostienen. A partir de esta revisión, se señalan las convergencias entre la generación más reciente de la Teoría Crítica y el giro decolonial y la posibilidad de construir un diálogo en condiciones simétricas, reconociendo la importancia de valorar los saberes otros del giro decolonial, pero también de la conservación de los pilares institucionales que sostienen la existencia de una ciencia social crítica.

El presente artículo discute y reivindica el papel del cine como objeto de estudio dentro de la Ciencia Política. Se describe el estatus científico de la Ciencia Política contemporánea y el desdén por el estudio del cine dentro de la corriente principal de la Comunicación Política. Además, se introducen los aportes de la Teoría del Discurso de la Escuela de Essex para el análisis político y su marco conceptual central. Finalmente, los autores proponen una estrategia analítica o procedimiento para el análisis político del cine basado en dicha teoría y ofrecen una reflexión sobre sus aspectos epistemológicos.

"In Latin America, Teun van Dijk is likely the most read theorist of critical discourse analysis (CDA). Equally important is the book 'Methods of Critical Discourse Analysis,' edited by Ruth Wodak and Michael Meyer. Published in English for the first time in 2001, a second edition appeared in 2009. In this article my proposal is to compare both editions to illustrate continuities and ruptures between them and note the most important innovations I observe in the more recent edition. The analysis comprises the chapters focused on the theoretical and methodological bases of CDA and on the 'discourse-historical approach' developed by Wodak and colleagues. I observe that the concerns of CDA are still the same; for example, the analysis of power or interdisciplinary work. At the same time, it is noticeable that during the past several years, CDA has become a well established method with world-wide dissemination. Issues of theory and methodology, such as concepts and categories of analysis have been improved and clarified, e.g. the famous 'discursive strategies.'" (author's abstract)

Based on Axel Honneth's concept of recognition, considered as a fundamental need of the human being, and the method of normative reconstruction, the core of a plural theory of justice is presented. The aim of the research was to articulate a normative conception of justice with the sociological analysis, by means of normative reconstruction, starting from the intersubjective dimension of the institutions of recognition. Social freedom presupposes access to institutions of recognition. Through research and bibliographical analysis, within the framework of German critical theory, a theory of justice is presented that analyzes institutions in a broad sense, through the reconstruction of already institutionalized practices and conditions of recognition, with a view to social emancipation. The main conclusions lie in the significance of the realization of freedom in patterns, not of an individual taken in isolation, but of social freedom expressed in a plural and expanded sense of "we". Thus, the spheres of realization of social freedom develop as the "we" of personal relations, of the market and, in relation to the sphere of the state, in the democratic formation of will.

The object of study was the study of the theory and practice of the influence caused by the criminal subculture on criminality in the penitentiary environment. In the main content of the research, two directions are highlighted: first, the influence of criminal subculture among convicts in places of detention of the State Criminal Executive Service of Ukraine and; the second direction of influence, this caused by criminal subculture among convicts who are registered with parole of the State Institution «Parole Center». The methodological basis of the research was presented as comparative-legal and systematic analysis, formal-legal method, method of interpretation, hermeneutic method, as well as methods of analysis and synthesis. Among the contributions of the research, the definition of the influence that the criminal subculture exerts on delinquency in the penitentiary environment is formulated. It concludes on the need for the mandatory application of measures for the individual prevention of professional delinquency, in terms of judicial and public policies.

The article aims to study the concept and structure of activities in the field of the organization and holding of elections to governing bodies in the theory of constitutional law. The main method was the analysis of systems that allows to study the system of activities in this field. The latter can be represented by different structures depending on the stage of their cognition as an object or their internal processes. In addition, the article used the historical method, deduction, induction, etc. It is concluded that the system of activities in the field of the organization and holding of elections to the governing bodies is a unit of their properties and integral elements, order and their interaction, as well as stable connections between them, based on the principles of preservation or invariance, which are organized as appropriate relations between the structural elements themselves and their external environment, that is, the sphere of the organization and conduct of elections to the governing bodies.

A review essay on books by (1) Henry E. Brady & David Collier [Eds], Rethinking Social Inquiry: Diverse Tools, Shared Standards (New York: Rowman & Littlefield, 2004); (2) Alexander L. George & Andrew Bennett, Case Studies and Theory Development in the Social Sciences (Cambridge, MA: MIT Press, 2004); (3) Gary Goertz, Social Science Concepts: A User's Guide (Princeton: Princeton U Press, 2006); & (4) James Mahoney & Dietrich Ruieschemeyer [Eds], Comparative Historical Analysis in the Social Sciences (New York: Cambridge U Press, 2003). Qualitative methods have recently experienced a revival in political science, with a rich literature developing them & disseminating its many uses in the field. This article describes the trajectories & analyzes the contributions of four recent books in qualitative methods. The common issues binding all these publications include case selection, timing & sequence in political processes, & the debate between qualitative & quantitative methods. The article argues that although much of this literature provides valuable tools for pursuing rigorous research, at the same time it continues to be differentiated & underdeveloped vis-a-vis quantitative methods. These books under review perform a valuable service to social scientists, both for the problems they raise but leave unsolved, as for the solutions they offer.

The dust of Methodenstreit still not been settled, plus there is still no consensus on which methodology is most appropriate to investigate society and politics. This article stems from a discussion of research methodology and socio-political rules of thumb, the Ignacio Lago, Donatella della Porta and Rainer Baubock, organized by Camil Ungureanu and the Department of Social and Political Sciences at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra. From different perspectives and sometimes conflicting, the authors of this paper discuss the relationship between quantitative and qualitative research and the role of political theory in the investigation of the socio-political. In this article we describe the uses of qualitative methodological designs in social science journals. A content descriptive analysis was performed. We reviewed 186 papers published in open-access journals indexed in the Scopus electronic database (Elsevier) during 2013-2015. Of the articles reviewed, 75% contained descriptions of the methodological designs utilized. In 51% of the articles qualitative designs were employed based on the type of study (ethnography, action research, grounded theory methodology, phenomenology, discourse analysis, among others); 37% of the articles used a design based on the specific guidelines for each approach; 11% based on the theoretical orientation of the authors (e.g., postpositivism, constructivism, critical theory, and others). We conclude that there are differences in conceptions of qualitative methodological designs in the corpus of articles reviewed.
