; The historical and sociological study of the relations between religion and politics in Argentina reveals a Catholicism that presents itself with a project at the social and symbolic level, and as provider of national identity. This is accentuated in the new tensions between the current Peronist government of Kirchner and the institutional Catholic church over control of beliefs, bodies and memory. ; Fil: Mallimaci, Fortunato Horacio. Syria has become a clear example of a failed state. The anti-authoritarian mobilizations of 2011 did not lead to the fall of Bashar al-Assad or the establishment of a democratic regime, but on the contrary the outbreak of a long and painful conflict. Since then, the situation on the ground has significantly worsened, not only as a result of the clash between the regime and the different opposition groups, but also by the intervention of regional and international actors. Nowadays, Syria is the scenario of a war by proxi among the United States, Russia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Qatar. The interference of these countries has caused the irruption of numerous militias with a clear sectarian agenda. The rivalry between Iran and Saudi Arabia for the regional hegemony has spreaded to the Syrian conflict, that has become a new scenario of the cold war between these regional powers. The Syrian war can not be understood without addressing the distribution of hydrocarbons in the Middle East and without referring to the regional projects to transport oil and gas from the Persian Gulf to Europe. Nowadays, the implementation of these projects is conditioned by the end of the Syrian conflict and the improvement of the security situation in the region.

Contemporary history of the Middle East has seen at least four periods of active inter-state alliance formation – three of which led by the United States. The return of Russia to the Middle East has helped shape new alliances and coalitions. Unlike the American "philosophy" of alliance formation underpinned by the imperative for a comprehensive politicomilitary presence as well as prevention of, first, Soviet and then, Iranian regional expansion, the Russian model is oriented toward the players, cooperation with which could solve a current or a potential crisis at a specific time period. Coupled with consistent and pragmatic foreign policy course, it was nontrivial strategies for flexible alliance-formation that enabled Moscow to establish itself as one of the leading player in the turbulent region as well as a responsible global power. At the same time, the comparative analysis of the Russian campaign in Syria and Moscow's relations with key states in the region shows that Russia has been exercising elements of at least three alliance-formation strategies.

This article examines, under the neoclassical realism, those systemic and domestic factors influencing some of the milestones in the USA foreign policy regarding the Middle East by the end of the Cold War. In the first part herein, we study the early interactions during the 18th century. Next, we observe the events from the 20th century first half to the end of the Cold War, when strong changes took place in the political elite thinking of the United States regarding the Middle East. Finally, we focus on Saddam Hussein's reaction that eventually led to the Gulf War in 1990, and then we draw some conclusions. Finalmente, algunas conclusiones.

The German coalition government by the Social Democrats and the Greens is preparing to introduce a second crucial reform concerning the immigrant population. After the 1999 reform of the nationality law, Germany is taking another step towards modelling a comprehensive and long expected organised immigration policy, concluding for the first time officially that Germany is not only a country of immigration, but to state that further immigration is needed. Yet, while citizenship politics in Germany is departing from old ethnic conceptions with the possibility for immigrant children to acquire citizenship by birth and a reduction of the requirements for naturalisation, policies for (labour) migration still remain in an attitude known from the past: immigrants are only "wanted" if they fit to the structural needs of the labour market and the economy. Thus, the planned immigration law is in danger to repeat the failure of former guest-worker policies when treating immigrants just as workers.

; Its privileged geostrategic situation, bridge between three continents, center of the three religions, the most important sea channels of the world such as Suez, Hormuz (45% of the global energy consumed daily sailing by it), and its abundant sources of energy (67% of the world reserves) have converted the Arab world into an ancestral object of desire for the western powers. And it will continue being it, despite the attempts to hide it under different veils, such as the Greater Middle East Project. This has provoked that the area is entering into an accused political, economic, social and cultural debacle which has forced Arab beings to rebel -Arab revolts- against the injustice of the situation when they are suffering and seeking for a better life. Therefore, these tides of revolts can mean the dawn of a long-awaited change, or just be the first manifestations of the mentioned project which aim is to make the area sinking deeper into the under developing and separation of the states. ; Universidad Pablo de Olavide

In the article I present a reflection around the radical democratic project proposed by Chantal Mouffe & Ernesto Laclau. Specifically, I examine the application of the project in the context of the 'new social movements' & especially, of feminist movement. I state the need of drawing attention to universalism & essentialism as the main obstacles to generate a collective proposal without margins. Nevertheless, doubts remind about the possibility of building up a feminism tailored by the radical democratic project, in a stage in which the political action of such a movement is characterized by categories that are closed & crystallized.

The aim of this article is to explore, in the countries of the so-called Arab Spring, the relationship between the pressures of the international context (understood in terms of geography, the distribution of power, and the global normative agenda) and regime change or domestic political crises. In all cases, the international environment has often been determinant in the development of economic, social and political dynamics, although the objectives and consequences of such interaction are very different according to the country. This examination centers on three issue-areas: politics and economy, violence, and foreign policy.
