This article aims to discuss current monumental museum discourses of national identity in the Lusophone world, particularly in Brazil and Portugal. It proposes (re)formulating modes of classifying museums by focusing on their institutional characteristics and long-term exhibitions. The museum model proposed is neither definitive nor fixed, but rather a hermeneutical exercise that aims to disentangle the changes and accommodations in national identity discourses in museum exhibitions. Thus, this article puts forward the idea that while museums are ever-evolving institutions capable of adapting to the times, reinventing themselves and contributing to the (re)creation of societies, they also maintain performances and discourses that reinforce power relations in national representation. Ultimately, museums are always negotiating with hegemonic representations and national discourses. The continuously changing nature of museums in question has been studied from a diverse range of perspectives and has led to different modes of interpretation of their intricate characteristics. However, in both countries, the critical review of Lusotropicalism culturally, socially and politically has, as an analysis of the colonial legacies of museums and their exhibitions, not been explored in depth. Therefore, this article endeavors to propose monumentality types in three Lusophone museums by firstly articulating the literature review of Lusotropicalism and Museum Studies, and then reporting part of the ethnographic research conducted in 2015.

This article is part of the master's dissertation 'Babies in the Art Museum: Processes, Relations and Discoveries'. From the analysis of sessions of the program No Colo (On One's Arms), from the Instituto Tomie Ohtake, in São Paulo, we aimed to understand the inclusion of infants in education programs in art museums. Based on the investigation and analysis of the practices in question and dialoguing with the adopted theoretical framework - Vygotsky, Trevarthen, Vecchi - we observed that the contact with artifacts, collective experiences and proposals for sensory experimentation can be significant for infants' social, emotional and cognitive development and insertion in culture. The inclusion of this audience can provide new ways of being and thinking about exhibition spaces, contributing to its democratization and broadening of the mediation repertoire.

This work aims to conduct a dialogue between the thoughts of Brazilian philosopher and educator Dermeval Saviani and studies about education in science museums and centers. Firstly, we investigate the historical development of these institutions, and then analyze mentions to non-school forms of education in Saviani's works. Based on the writings of this Brazilian educator, and considering the different meanings that the literature assigns to informal education and non-formal education, we propose to situate education modalities between the systematized/unsystematic and school/non-school categories. Thus, by understanding museum education as a modality of non-school education that is becoming systematized, and the specificity of museums concerning the concepts of knowledge and culture, we comment on some possibilities for these institutions to collaborate in making knowledge democratic, thus complementing and valuing school science education. In line with Saviani's critical position, we consider that, as science museums and centers establish education actions, they could contribute to improve the quality of science teaching by establishing a communicative relationship between museum knowledge and school knowledge. Thus, the specificity of the museum institution as the guardian of human heritage is not dissolved, nor is the specificity of school as the transmitter of culture to new generations.

At a time when everything becomes art, art no longer belongs to itself, to the point of overflowing from the frames that have enclosed it for several centuries – museums, galleries, churches – with unprecedented effects not only in the field of aesthetics, but above all in ordinary life. To understand this in depth, it is necessary to take into account the digital reproducibility of the work of art as a dynamic that upsets the relationship between work and spectator, subject and object, politics and everyday life. From the second half of the 18th century onwards, we saw a dynamic of "aestheticization of the public" parallel to the birth of the cultural industry and, therefore, the transformation of culture into merchandise. It is an ambiguous process, as it implies the emergence of the mass as the central subject of our culture, but also its definitive reification. What about aesthetics in such a condition? This study explores the genology and history of this process by updating Walter Benjamin's thinking in relation to the cultural emergencies of our time. In particular, it seems essential to understand what happens to the aura in the context of a condition in which the aesthetic object, the work of art and, more generally, the area that concerns beauty is available, used and consumed in everyday life, to the point of placing our cities as "open air museums". ; Arthur Friedenreich is one of the first football Brazilian idols to become engraved in the memory of this sport. Regarding the writing of the history of this sport in Brazil dealing with the mechanisms of national identity, what can we learn with its main character in the first decades of the 20th century? To answer this question, we deal with the writings and images of the former player Arthur Friedenreich in three exhibitions in museums, which are located in the city of Sao Paulo. In the study, we refer to photographic images as a concept of denotative and connotative meaning and textuality as documentary analysis. The results revealed that these exhibitions sought to present the former player not only as one of the biggest black (or mulatto) heroes of football due to his competence and merit in this field, but also contributed to the democratization of the sport in the country. Besides, the research expressed the specificity of "the Brazilian way of racism". The prodigious performance of Friedenreich has been recurrently recalled by the museums that hold the memory of football. His biography draws attention to the success of the idol presenting the ambiguities of racial identification in Brazil.

This is an invitation to Ushuaia Museo Prison (Argentina) on its website. Inaugurated in 1902 and transferred from San Juan del Salvamento's military prison, Ushuaia's prison has a long trajectory. It is currently part of a historical, cultural, and tourist arena in the city just for being a museum. Documentaries and books in Argentina as well as their characteristics imply a certain correlation between tourism and this place. Coming from an old trial prison to become a museological and tourist place, it revitalizes memory. What were the necessary arrangements for such change? This article presents a correlation between two main events: the deactivation of the prison and the new function as a museum.

The present paper discuss the new museological and museum practices in the city of Rio de Janeiro, as follows: o Museu de Favela Cantagalo Pavão-Pavãozinho; a Galeria Providência; e o Museu Nami. For the theoretical foundation we use Michel de Certeau. We also analyse how this experiences are lined by non orthodox theories of heritage, museums and memory. In this sense, we consider that the entry of new actors in the scene with an active voice about their stories and experiences creates new power dynamics, new models and new initiatives that sometimes escape tradicional models already estabilished and contribute to the fluid dynamics of heritage and memory. We also observe the will of the favelas to show themselves as a constituent part of the city. The paper merge empirical data and the theorical work of Sociomuseology.

I propound that the collection exhibition of Afro Brasil Museum located in São Paulo, Brazil, features characteristics that well represent intersections between art creation
and curatorial work, besides its dealt with institutional memory through less conventional exhibit designs. Thus, I seek a reflection about the interchange between curatorial work, art making and metalanguage arrangements within this museum. I introduce this exhibition as an institutional memorial – based on conversations and interviews with the museum staff, "absent dialogues" with its curator-director-artist and by the analysis of bibliographic material, so as the collection itself – due to my understanding of the exhibition as an imagery formed by composite images set by Emanoel Araújo. In order to communicate the singularity of this exhibition I bring a perspective of the objects exhibited, by means of the registers of fieldnotes and on, undertaking a dialogue with scholars from arts and humanities about curatorial work, the polysemy of image and the role of scenography. I discuss the art making of curatorial work and Emanoel Araújo's métier as curator artist, supported by his concept A Mão Afro-Brasileira (The Afro-Brazilian Hand). In conclusion, I stress the relation textimage-public in order to communicate the singular aspects of its exhibition. Whilst the absence of consensus toward creativity and art agency while designing exhibitions, I assert that Araújo and his team strain the usual expectations on curatorial practice hence the limits of topographic arrangements and scenography schemes as a sensorial tool are extrapolated.
