The Duc de Nevers, a Gonzaga, was governor of Saluzzo and opposed cession of Piedmontese fortresses. Although the title of the work refers to the "late Henry", the French monarch, Henry III had just ascended the throne following the death of Charles IX. Henry abided by his promise to clear the Italian citadels of the French garrisons and Nevers remained in command. Extremely rare first edition.
