Ziel der Arbeit ist es, die Unterstützung des deutschen Nationalsozialismus durch die neue Mittelklasse quantitativ und qualitativ zu erfassen. Auf der Basis von Wahlanalysen kommt der Autor zu dem Schluß, daß Angestellte und Beamte aus unterschiedlichen Motivationen heraus in Krisenzeiten die Nationalsozialisten unterstützten, aber keinesfalls ein so konstantes Wählerpotential bildeten wie der alte Mittelstand. Zur Stützung dieser These werden die Entwicklung der wirtschaftlichen Lage dieser Berufsgruppen in der Weimarer Republik und die Propaganda des Nationalsozialismus im Hinblick auf Angestellte und Beamte untersucht. There is a wide divergence of opinion among social scientists concerning the nature of the German Nazi party. One of several suggested definitions of national socialism derives from the so-called "generational revolt" hypothesis. Organizational records show that the membership of the Nazi party was very young during the period 1919-1933 (before Hitler assumed power), & that many of the party's policies & programs were influenced by the youth of its membership. 1 Table, 1 Figure.
