; The current social changes enhance the uncertainty, displacement and individualism perception, but at the same time, some practices contrast with the dominant trend. These practices are aimed to create local social ties. For instance, the urban-architectural planning is embodying the growing need for community, developing housing solutions aimed to increase informal neighbors exchanges. So it relies on the terms of social capital, neighborhood attachment, place identity, participation. Home, the symbol of stability and safety, but also, privacy and familiar privatism, increasingly becomes the object of sociological studies, social question and policy action. It is increasingly understood as a node within widest networks of household relationships. In which extent home and neighbourhood community affect to the family well-being and sociability? In which extent the urban-architectural spaces impact on social cohesion levels? What is the role of inhabitants in developing sociability and integration? Starting from these research questions, we explore the social and cultural dynamics of inhabiting, using a case study in two similar planned neighbourhoods. The research findings highlight that the meaning of home is not unique but it changes in function of the family life cycle and economic status. So, the meanings of the home are linked with the neighborhood activities' participation. The findings show that the physic built space creates important chances for informal exchanges, family and children well-being but, also that, the social context is the determinant of the social benefits. Comparing the neighborhoods, the one in which a inhabitants association is present, the number of neighbor relations and the physic distances between them increase, as well as the quality of relations between neighbors improves. Furthermore, it seems that the reciprocity is the principal mean about the constitution of the internal community cohesion and it also creates an openness and trust attitude that goes beyond the neighbourhood boundaries.
; Mixing the methodological suggestions from the Italian Microhistory with the concepts of strategies and tactics conceived by Michel de Certeau, the thesis focuses on everyday life in a working-class neighbourhood of Bologna during the Fascist regime. After a first part concerning the urban history of the Bolognina neighbourhood from its first appearance in the local Urban Plan (1885) to the end of WWI, in which I will analyse in particular the strategies (formal or informal) that organized the space and the time of inhabitants, the thesis focuses on the Fascist ventennio. I will examine the attempts, made by the local Fascist organizations, to ideologically seduce the inhabitants and to redefine the neighbourhood's structure aiming to spread the value of respectability in it; I will later analyse the constant presence of Fascist violence, the repressive practices and the different actors involved in the Fascist political police, the role played by professional spies and occasional informants, the tactics of apolitical and individual resistance adopted by the inhabitants and, in the end, the communist networks arisen in the neighbourhood, focusing my attention on the enrollment of young people and the key-role of books. The thesis enter in the debate about the methodological usefulness of the category of consensus or consent, microhistorically investigating the ways in which the attitudes towards the Fascist regime have developed; furthermore, the thesis also analyse the ways in which working-class youngsters became interested in communism, during the Fascist era, and how they learned its fundamentals.
Analyzing with an ethnographic approach The Wire, one of the most important TV series on American ghettos, to understand and question the sociological perspective that emerges from the series, positioning it into the broader scientific debate. This is, in a nutshell, the work presented in the book It's all in the Game, the outcome of a laboratorial research activity carried out in 2020 by students and teachers of the Sociology of Communities and Urban Neighborhoods class, at the University of Bologna. The text is structured into four chapters, resulting from the four topics used to analysis the TV series: forms of social capital, the relationship between structural forces- culture of poverty and individual agency, neighborhood effects mechanism and the relationship between statistics and political action. Four subjects that are the core of many neighborhood- studies related researches and on which the TV series makes a clear stand. We analyzed those topics through a critical perspective, not considering them as a truth about ghettos, but as a very precise way of thinking about life in the American suburbs.

This is a divulgative article about urban renewal, gentrification and planned shrinkage in the Roman neighborhood of San Lorenzo, one of the field sites of MC project 'SDD-752547'. ; This project has received funding from the European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie grant agreement No 752547.
Nowadays inequality still increases inside countries and it is possible to observe the phenomenon in cities. There are some areas in the towns where services and wellbeing of the population are very different. Usually areas with lack of services, building degradation and zones where the population have critical socio-economic conditions are considered peripheral. This analysis tries to explore an urban marginalized area in Pisa called Sant'Ermete, exploring factors that allow the birth of a peripheral area, how they change in times and which were the institutional strategies to face the problem and try to relieve the social suffereces of people. In particular that area was targeted by the local administration in 2008 for a project of urban regeneration, a project not finished yet. During my analysis, using participant observation, I have explored the everyday life of people that live in the social housing neighborhood, the solidarity born in the neighborhood and all the relationships that have contributed to increase the social community's welfare. I have also analyzed the relationships between institutions and Sant'Ermete people, tring to understand if the local administration is able to grasp and support the active citizens present in the area, including them to create and implement political strategies that could effectively provide benefits for the zone.
The article presents a research on the informal access to public housing and on the instances of the "Quarticciolo neighborhood committee", an experience of struggle for house born in 2017 in the eastern suburban area Quarticciolo that is a popular housing district. The study examines the context and it analies the social composition of the inhabitants and the different types of housing conditions. The research objective is to understand the political meanings and motivations assumed by bottom-up practices in neighborhoods where the public administration's disengagement is high. The data have been collected through secondary sources and qualitative methods, such as semi-strcutured interviews and participant observation.
In this paper, I present the results of two studies carried out in the neighborhood of Balzac, located in Vitry-sur-Seine, in the banlieue of Paris. From 2007, the town was affected by the program, Agence Nationale de Renovation Urbaine (ANRU). I analyze the social and economic context and the role played by social workers of the Centre Social Balzac (CSB) during the plan of urban regeneration. The study of the network of migrant women (and specially the residential path of two sisters)shows that urban program reflects the social and cultural assignments and affects the local social relations of gender and family.
The evolution of thought on environmental issues has imposed to anyone involved in construction a leap in scale today we combine the study of rational use of energy at the building scale, through innovative technologies integrated in to building, strategies and technologies for the microurbana scale. While it is true that the indications given to insiders have, first, reported only possible actions on the building (Directive 2002/91/CE) is not to forget the request, of the European union, of planning interventions at urban scale. It is in consideration to this that the theme of the Eco-neighborhoods should be studied as formality of employment of the energies in urban context, to model a new cultural landscape.
; What does it mean to be protected? To live in a constantly monitored space, or feeling heard by the institutions? Supervise the neighborhood or be involved in the design of security policies? The study analyze citizen's active participation as a further element for an effective implementation of urban safety policies. The goal is to understand if and how social ties influence on perceived safety and what role they may have in the design and development of security policies. The reference framework is therefore to community prevention policies. In order to develop the project I used a mixed qualitative and quantitative methodology research in order to analyze citizen's active participation through neighborhood watch, community policing and police mediation in the italian and spanish context.
This thesis has investigated the role of the British decolonization policy in Somaliland. The major aim was to identify the process and analyse the formation of the Somali political institutions from 1950 to 1960. The research was carried on a twofold perspective: on the one side, a microscopic-local level explored the relations between the British Administration in Somaliland, its clerks and officials, the Somali people and its representatives, mainly traditional/religious authorities and political leaders. On the other side, a macroscopic perspective was detect while considering the external forces which have influenced this process. The dissertation examined also the British attitude towards the Italian administration of Somalia, the awkward Ethiopian neighborhood, as well as the diplomatic and international interests of geopolitics in the Horn of Africa.
