Patterns of local news channel preferences are traced, using three predictors across three surveys of Puerto Rican respondents. Preference levels are quite close to U.S. levels.

There has been a veritable television explosion in India in the last 10 years or so. And nowhere is this better seen than in the Hindi language television space where a number of national and regional channels have emerged vying for the audience's share of attention. Conducted in two towns (Jaipur and Patna), this article maps the relative position of seven leading Hindi news channels (HNCs) vis-à-vis 10 editorial attributes of news. The study found channel Aaj Tak enjoying a considerable lead over its rivals in both the cities. In addition, the study answers the question: Who watches what channel and what is their demographic profile? The study found differences in the demographic profile of viewers from the two cities emphasizing that viewers' tastes and preferences have to be examined more deeply than what Television Rating Points (TRPs) indicate.

Decisions of a pop of newspaper gatekeepers subjected to the same stimulus-wire news about Medicare over a 4-month period-were studied in relation to 3 kinds of 'forces' in the environments of the gatekeepers: (1) publisher attitude toward a soc issue (Medicare), (2) perceived P7 on the issue, & (3) community conditions which might have a bearing on the issue (eg, %o of pop age 65 & over, % with $3,000 or less income, etc). The study investigated relationship of these 'forces' to decisions of the gatekeepers to run certain pieces of information about Medicare & not others, & to feature certain items & 'bury' other items. Content analysis, and att scale, & collection of demographic data from instit'al sources (eg census bur), were employed in the study of Ky afternoon newspapers subscribing to the same wire service (N=17), & thus all receiving the same kind of news items about Medicare. Publisher attitude toward the issue was found to be most strongly related to news coverage decisions, r'ing .73 with content & .71 with display. Neither perceived PO nor community conditions was signif'ly related to news coverage. AA.
