Effective communication between healthcare provider and patient is crucial, yet research indicates that this communication relationship is often unsatisfactory in both developed and developing countries. Several studies exist on provider-patient communication, but a synthesis of findings on ideal communication appears to be lacking. Thus, this study argues that health literacy and effective communication are important catalysts to enhance the coordinated management of meaning in health communication. For this study, in-depth interviews were conducted in the Mafikeng community in South Africa's North-West province to collate a variety of patients' perspectives on the challenges they face when communicating with doctors. Recurrent among the findings were semantic, psychological, physiological, institutional and structural barriers that could hinder effective communication. Practical implications are that all stakeholders should be proactive in promoting effective health communication. Theoretical implications have a bearing on policy formulation, implementation and revision, particularly the indigenous language policy to promote research on the development of medical terminology in indigenous languages.

Background: The Jordanian health system was overwhelmed in the early phases of coronavirus pandemic, primarily due to the lack of workers, and the breakdown of several medical centers. Healthcare workers suffered tremendous physical and mental pressure due to this unprecedented situation. Purpose: This research aims at investigating the experiences of nurses caring for patients with COVID-19 in field hospitals. Methods: A qualitative phenomenology research aimed to explore the experiences of nurses in field hospitals in Jordan caring for COVID-19 patients. Intentional and snowballing sampling methods were conducted on twenty nurses from May to June 2022. Results: The study generated four main themes and ten sub-themes, (1) Sense of obligation and pride, (2) Stress, (3) Personal development, (4) Feelings of helplessness and betrayal. Physical, emotional, and mental changes of nurses were observed after caring for patients with severe illness resulting from COVID-19. Conclusion: The findings of the study acknowledged the participants' willingness to enrich their knowledge and expand their work expertise by being part of this experience. The analysis of the themes and sub-themes has shown that nurses experienced stress, anxiety, depression, as well as other psychological and mental challenges. Therefore, healthcare leaders should consider meeting the nurses' needs and resolving challenges that faced them. Implications for Nursing: Healthcare policymakers and leaders in the health sector should consider implementing programs that support nurses' well-being and productivity under crises. Also, additional pay allowance should be considered to compensate for the dangerous time that nurses spend in special situations, such as the COVID-19 pandemic. Internationally educated nurses (IEN) are a group who reflect Canada's diverse population as a result of rising immigration trends. There is increasing diversity of the general population in Canada and health service disparities exist. Reducing these disparities among the healthcare workforce and the patients they care for is important to meet language and other cultural needs of patients from different ethnic backgrounds. This article describes a study that examined internationally educated nurses' transition experiences in the field of nursing with the objective of describing their unique contributions to the patient care experience. A review of the literature provides background information, followed by the study methods, findings, and discussion. Descriptive phenomenology guided this qualitative study that included 11 participants. Findings from this study illustrate how IENs perceive themselves as an asset to nursing and patient care. Implications for the future of nursing education, practice, research, and administration are offered. Healthcare providers that reflect the diversity of Canada's population and can offer unique cultural perspective have potential to improve the patient experience during a hospital stay.

Homecare nurses manage patients with extreme homecare dependence through interprofessional collaboration. The quality of the collaboration depends on situations, and the difficulties of homecare nurses are complicated in rural settings because of a few healthcare resources. This study determined rural homecare nurses' difficulties during interprofessional collaboration in providing seamless patient care. Focus groups, followed by one-on-one interviews, were conducted with 13 rural homecare nurses working in rural Japan. Using thematic analysis, four themes were extracted: collaboration with physicians, the collaboration with the government, the collaboration with care workers, and the collaboration among hospital nurses. Rural homecare nurses have difficulties in their working relationships with other professionals, with vague definitions of each professional's roles and responsibilities, and with information-sharing. Interprofessional education and information-sharing should respect rural professional and cultural backgrounds. Respect can accomplish mutual understanding among professional care, leading to seamless patient care in rural home care.

Like every healthcare system today, the Cleveland Clinic health system is a combination of medical hospitals, institutes, and services in which the implementation of uniform care methodologies faces significant barriers. The guiding principle of the Cleveland Clinic, 'Patients First,' focuses on the principle of patient- and family-centered care (PFCC) but deliberately lacks details due to the wide scope of care delivered by the organization. The Stanley Shalom Zielony Institute of Nursing Excellence (the Nursing Institute) at the Cleveland Clinic was charged with standardizing nursing practice across a system with 11,000 registered nurses and 800 advanced practice nurses. The challenge involved providing firm direction on delivering PFCC that was appropriate for all clinical disciplines and could be implemented quickly across existing practices and technologies. Successful implementation required full engagement in the concept of PFCC by what the Institute for Healthcare Improvement has termed the 'hearts and minds' of nurses. To achieve these ends, development of a systemwide nursing practice model was initiated. In this article the authors identify the essence of PFCC, consider barriers to PFCC, review their process of developing PFCC, and describe how the Cleveland Clinic health system has implemented a PFCC nursing practice model. In doing so the authors explore how the concept of 'Passion for Nursing' was used to stimulate nurse engagement in PFCC.

Objective: to analyze the communication process between the nursing staff and the hospitalized client in a medical and surgical clinic whose scenario will be a large military hospital. Method: this is a qualitative, descriptive study. The study population will be composed of nursing team professionals from an inpatient sector of medical and surgical clinic and by clients who are hospitalized on the day of the interview within the inclusion criteria. The data will be obtained through a semi-structured interview, analyzing them through the technique of Content Analysis. Expected Results: the study is expected to contribute to the feasibility of a situational diagnosis in order to provide the construction and implementation of an instrument that assists in the planning of health actions for the improvement of nursing care provided to hospitalized clients. It is also emphasized the need for new studies that deal with the proposed theme, thus valuing research in the area of Nursing, in order to strengthen the strengthening of the professional-client bond. Registered Nurses (RNs) influence the health of individual patients and populations. RNs provide the most value for the healthcare system when they work collaboratively with other healthcare team members, work to their full scope of practice, and when they are engaged and accountable. In 2011, the Institute of Medicine report on the future of nursing made the call to achieve the full value of nursing care. Creation of this future state requires both a vision of the "to be" as well as removal of existing barriers. In this article, we present a description of this future state in the context of a team based culture that utilizes collaboration to achieve the full scope of practice, accountability to deliver healthcare based on a discrete body of knowledge, and accountability to provide value and measure effectiveness of nursing care. This proposed future vision focuses on patient advocacy for nurses working in healthcare systems. Barriers that currently exist, such as overlaps in professional scopes of practice, organizational policy and structure, and a lack of the ability to grant privileges to nurses based upon their education and skills are discussed. We offer recommendations to remove barriers and contribute to creation of a new future state of nursing, and conclude that the removal of barriers to inhibit the fullest scope of nursing practice will continue to require focus in purpose and persistence in action.
