Introducción. La pandemia ocasionada por COVID-19 impacta en la salud psicológica, aumentando significativamente los niveles de estrés experimentados por las personas. Objetivo. Primero, analizar la relación entre variables sociodemográficas, poseer personas a cargo, pertenecer a población de riesgo (o tener alguien cercano que pertenezca) y el estrés percibido durante la pandemia ocasionada por COVID-19, en argentinos/as de 18 a 85 años. Segundo, explorar dichas relaciones durante los períodos de Aislamiento Social Preventivo y Obligatorio (ASPO) decretados por el gobierno de Argentina. Metodología. La muestra estuvo compuesta por 5512 personas que respondieron a la encuesta COVIDiSTRESS entre el 1 de abril y el 7 de junio. Resultados. Las personas más jóvenes, las mujeres, los/as desempleados, los/as que contaban con nivel educativo bajo, tenían personas a cargo o pertenecían a la población de riesgo (o tenían a alguien cercano que pertenezca) presentaron mayores niveles de estrés. En los períodos 2 y 3 de ASPO se observaron relaciones particulares entre el estrés y algunas variables sociodemográficas. Conclusiones. Se discuten los resultados a la luz de evidencias previas y se exponen consideraciones sobre la implicancia de los mismos en el campo de la salud mental. ; INTRODUCTION: The pandemic caused by COVID-19 impacts psychological health, significantly increasing the levels of perceivedstress. In periods 2 and 3 of the ASPO, we found specific relationships between perceived stress and some sociodemographic variables. At the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, there was no vaccine to cure or slow its impact due to the novelty of the virus, nor were there were any other standardized measures to handle its spread. Yet, despite the detrimental consequences of the pandemic and its impact on people's lives, the behavior of individuals to combat the pandemic was not necessarily consistent with official guidelines. To make things worse, the pandemic was highly politicized in countries such as the U.S. With a help of a national survey from the U.S., we examine the associations between media literacy variables and willingness to perform recommended COVID-19 related health behavior. Moreover, we also examine the moderating role of conservative media use in this relationship. Our findings show that conservative media use was negatively associated with these protective behaviors, and that both media literacy variables were positively related with willingness to perform recommended COVID-19 related health behavior. Our results show that media literacy can mitigate some of the impact of conservative media use on individuals. Our findings help understand the complexity of protective behavior against the virus during a highly politicized pandemic.

Introduction: The situation of COVID-19 pandemic is becoming more complex. The research institutes should focus on the most important challenge related to this outbreak at the national level. We aim to realize this scoping review to map publications on COVID-19 in Vietnam in order to guide research priorities and policies in the country. Methods: This study was conducted at the Thai Binh University of Medicine and Pharmacy, from May to August 2020, according to the guidance for conducting systematic scoping review. Results: A total of 72 studies met the inclusion criteria. The most frequent publications were original articles (27.8%), followed by letter to editor/correspondence (26.4%). According to the research priorities for COVID-19 set by the WHO, 41.7% studies focused on control and prevention of COVID-19, but none of studies on personal protective equipment or protocol for healthcare workers' safety were conducted. 12.5% studies carried out a thorough investigation into epidemiology of the COVID-19 pandemic in Vietnam. Virology and genomics, natural history of the virus and its transmission in Vietnam were described by 18.1% papers. Only one study was conducted in terms of development for candidate therapeutics. Conclusion: We call for national investigation on treatment against SARS-CoV-2 and protocol for medical staff protection. The government and academic institutions should work in collaboration with international stakeholders, including the WHO, to combat together the COVID-19.

Test‐optional admissions were front and center for Sonya K. Smith when she started as Vassar College's Dean of Admission and Student Financial Services in fall 2019. Data indicated that high school GPA is a much better indicator of success at Vassar than SAT and ACT scores, especially for students of color. Smith saw that, for many students, testing is a barrier that can cause institutions to overlook talented and diverse applicants. After collecting data for several months, when COVID‐19 shutdowns began in March, Vassar administrators decided the time to pilot test‐optional admissions had arrived. Vassar has extended its test‐optional policy for the next two years, and its first test‐optional class of students will begin this fall.

Does the organisation of healthcare systems affect health outcomes in a pandemic situation? To answer this question, we analysed the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic by focusing on mortality rate outcomes and exploited the heterogeneity of the healthcare organisational models among Italian regions, which makes Italy an ideal "laboratory". Within a common national healthcare system, Italian regions are allowed large autonomy to organise themselves as mixed-markets based on choice and competition, network or centralised leadership models, each delivering different responses to the Covid-19 emergency. Exploiting the discontinuity of healthcare organisational models across the Italian regional borders around Lombardy — the region that most convincingly embraced the mixed-market model fostering competition among health service providers — we applied a difference in geographic regression discontinuity design (DiD-GRDD) to compare mortality rates in 2020 of Lombardy's municipalities with that of neighbouring municipalities in other regions and also exploited the pre-crisis period (2017-2019). Our analysis shows that mortality rates in Lombardy during the first wave were higher by 1-2 percentage points among the population of residents aged 80 years or more, compared to the past, as opposed to regions adopting different organisational models. The mortality rate differential disappeared during the second wave following the implementation of a national policy based on risk zones, limiting mobility and taking stock of the experience developed during the first wave. Finally, by investigating the channels causing higher mortality during the first wave, we show that the role of organisational model differences vanishes, as differential mortality is mostly explained by the decision of the Lombardy regional government to use care homes for hosting Covid-19 patients and reduce the excess demand on the hospital system.

Preprint. ; In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, restrictions on economic activities have resulted in a sharp rise of unemployment. The purpose of this research is to explore mental disorders associated with COVID-19 related unemployment using a large, nationally representative dataset, the 2020 COVID-19 Household Pulse Survey. ANOVA with post hoc tests (Tukey HSD) are utilized to reveal the mean difference of mental disorders between various employment status, as well as between reasons of unemployment. Binary logit model is used to investigate the potential effect of different reasons of unemployment on mental disorders. Individuals who were not working during the pandemic due to involuntary reasons had higher probabilities of mental disorders than those who were working and those who voluntarily separated from work. Among respondents who were not working due to COVID-19 related reasons, respondents whose employer went out of business were the most likely to experience mental disorders. Household job uncertainty in the next four weeks positively contributed to mental disorders. Government should consider measures to contain the spread of virous while keeping as many people employed as possible. Government should also consider providing adequate financial and counseling assistance to individuals who are in the greatest need for such support. ; Includes bibliographical references.

AbstractWe document two COVID‐19–related risks, viral risk and employment risk, and their distributions across the Canadian population. The measurement of viral risk is based on the VSE COVID‐19 Risk/Reward Assessment Tool, created to assist policy‐makers in determining the impacts of pandemic‐related economic shutdowns and re‐openings. Women are more concentrated in high‐viral‐transmission‐risk occupations, which is the source of their greater employment loss over the first part of the pandemic. They were also less likely to maintain contact with their former employers, reducing employment recovery rates. Low‐educated workers face the same viral risk rates as high‐educated workers but much higher employment losses. This is largely due to their lower likelihood of switching to working from home. For both women and the low‐educated, existing inequities in their occupational distributions and living situations have resulted in them bearing a disproportionate amount of the risk emerging from the pandemic. Assortative matching in couples has tended to exacerbate risk inequities.
