The Pluralistic Memories Project (PMP) has been funded in 2014 for a period of 6 years. Through a mixed methodology, PMP gathered personal memories of events related to past conflicts that happened in Burundi, Palestine and Sri Lanka, three former colonies that have been struggling with violent civil conflicts.

PMP aims to document the diversity of memories about these past conflicts, to examine the processes through which war narratives become official or fall into oblivion, and to support local researchers who study collective memories in conflict-torn societies.

The project brings together Burundian, Sri Lankan, Palestinian, Swiss and other international researchers from different scientific disciplines who are guided by a common question: Can the preservation of a plurality of living memories make communities more resilient in face of the exploitation of yesterday's trauma by tomorrow's warmongers?

PMP data is of multiple type. First, PMP conducted approximately 180+ semi-directive interviews. These interviews were done in the field by local PMP researchers that all shared a common thematic and methodology. Most of these interviews were then transcribed, anonymized, translated into english and documented. In Sri Lanka and Palestine, PMP also gathered data through two quantitative surveys (+ 2 pilots) that were conducted in the field. Particular attention was made to find representative samples that could reflect the diversity of memories. A last, PMP did 2 web surveys in Burundi, that were focused on the Burundian diaspora (so people of Burundi that live, or lived, outside Burundi).

Most of the anonymized data that was gathered by PMP is now available here under various licenses (depending on the sensitiveness of the data and the level of consent of participants). Actually, most of PMP data could still be sensitive in some contexts or for some uses. This more sensitive data is only available after the acceptance of a research project proposed by the requester.

Egyptian interactions and contact with Palestine began as early as the fourth millennium BCE, and continued, in varying forms and at times far more intensively than others, until the conquest of the ancient world by Alexander the Great. Numerous data—textual, material, archaeological—found in both Egyptian and southern Levantine contexts illustrate the diverse spectrum of interaction and contact between the two regions, which ranged from colonialism, to imperial expansion, to diplomatic relations, to commerce. By virtue of geographic proximity, economic interests, and occasionally political necessity, the respective histories of the two regions remained irreducibly interconnected. In all periods, situations and events in Egypt influenced growth and development in the southern Levant, while at times different societies and political considerations in Palestine also affected Egyptian culture.

This paper describes the conflict situations that teachers and students faced when a new problem- and case-based approach to democracy education was used in Palestine. The data for the study were six documentary cases written by teachers who participated in the three-year project, supplemented by the observations and interpretations of the author as a participant observer. The study describes how dedicated and tactful teachers generally succeeded to teach democracy in a largely undemocratic context, and shows that teaching democracy in the manner described perturbed the system, and students and teachers were faced with internal and external conflict situations. These conflict situations sometimes facilitated radical change in the knowledge, beliefs, and behavior of teachers and students. The study underscores the importance of internal cognitive and emotional conflict, in addition to external conflict, in learning, as well as draws attention to the dialectical relation between teachers' efforts to introduce educational change and their own change and professional development. ; peer-reviewed

An account of the author's research trip to Lebanon and Palestine in February 2016, where she researched environmental responses to the political problems of the region. As a member of the Interpal Bear Witness women's convoy, Naomi Foyle visited Palestinian and Syrian refugee camps in Lebanon, witnessing individual and collective efforts to green these barren environments, and gaining a better understanding of the myriad challenges faced by the residents. In the West Bank, Foyle volunteered at the Palestine Museum of Natural History in Bethlehem, a division of the Palestinian Institute of Biodiversity and Sustainability, Bethlehem University; and Marda Permaculture Farm in the village of Marda, located downhill from the large settlement of Ariel. In both places she encountered flourishing non-violent resistance to the Israeli Occupation, maintained under very difficult circumstances, including travel and import restrictions, weekly inundation by toxic tear gas and an epidemic of wild boar. Throughout her trip she met local and international activists committed to the principles of environmental justice, which seeks to protect both human rights and the biosphere.

The paper summarizes the findings of the historiographic and archaeological fieldwork focused on the preservation and development of the scientific heritage of the Russian scientists of the 19th — early 20th centuries in the area of the Syro-Palestinian region that most closely matches the concept of the "Holy Land". The author identifies three core directions of development in the Russian archaeology: field study of the traces of the Russian pilgrims, scientists, representatives of the government and the Orthodox Church; study of antiquities in some Russian areas; insights into the heritage of the 19th — early 20th centuries as historical sources with its further inclusion in the system of modern scientific knowledge. The paper describes the findings obtained to date (including the interim results of excavations in Jericho, the scientific interpretation of a number of artefacts from the collection of Antonin Kapustin, the first catalogues of archaeological sites in the Russian areas). The author focuses on expanding fieldwork, classifying and attributing antiquities, launching them in circulation at the level of modern science, creating a monograph on the history of the Russian studies in the 19th — early 20th centuries.

The Israeli-Palestinian conflict in the Middle East is used as a case in point for demonstrating US administration policy, which revolves around the maintenance of a controllable level of structured repression & instability that perpetuates shaky regimes dependent on outside powers & addicted to military acquisitions. It is argued that, as long as the rights & claims of Israeli Jews & Palestinian Arabs are seen as unchangeable & mutually exclusive, the catastrophic militarization of Israel & the repression of the Palestinians will continue to seem inevitable to those whose primary concern is the protection of the Jewish population. The histories of the two claims arise from two distinct collective projects of nation building. The historical constraints on these nationalist projects, as well as the ways the projects must be adjusted to promote present & future life in this region, are discussed. S. Millett
